It is estimated that there are over 28 million migraine sufferers in the United States. In fact, one in four households has at least one migraine sufferer. Traditional migraine headache treatments consist of some combination of preventive measures (such as avoiding things that you know will trigger a migraine), medications that will stop a migraine once it has started, and therapies/medicines designed to prevent migraines from occurring in the first place.
These remedies are based on the long-held theory that nerves within the brain become irritated and subsequently cause hypersensitivity, irritation, and inflammation in the peripheral nerves (i.e. those in the periphery of the body or not in the brain or spinal cord). Irritation of the peripheral nerves in the forehead, temple, or back of the scalp/head can cause the perception of pain or a migraine. These remedies relieve migraine headaches but what about migraine headache cures?

Headaches plague most people at some time. The common response to a headache is to take a pain reliever and rest. This works for a day or two but can get in the way of every day life when the headache lasts much longer. Chiropractors have a very high success rate of relieving and eliminating headaches.
A chiropractor can diagnose potential problems by reviewing a patient’s medical history, along with conducting a thorough examination. This is because many headaches begin with a spinal misalignment in the neck or cervical spine.

It could possibly be a fair guess that every person has suffered the distress of a headache. But naturally there are headaches, and then you’ll find migraine headaches that are different. I understand the severe pain of migaines because I used to put up with, terribly, from them during a young age. I am so relieved they stopped simply because they were extremely painful. Headaches in general, including migraines, haven’t been solved by physicians since they do not have a full grasp on their causes. Everything is clouded and unclear by the simple fact that people do not feel headaches, and pain, all the very same way. But that is only one small component of a large and intricate picture.
Nonetheless, just like with so many topics in medical science, a lot is recognized about migraine headaches. To begin with, migraines are sometimes called, vascular headaches, which means the vascular system of blood veins as well as arteries. People have been known to have a migraine when exposed to excessive temperatures in either direction. Then there are men and women who can have this type of headache if they experience substantial sleep loss or too much hunger. The same as with so many other medical issues, there are certain triggers that apparently influence this condition. Another cause for a migraine can be substantial and chronic amounts of stress.

If you suffer from debilitating migraines, you will be ecstatic to know that there is finally an effective medicine that will end your suffering. This discovery was professor Lars Edvindon, at the University Hospital in Lund, South Sweden, when he discovered a peptide called CGRP in 1984. After many years, it was finally scheduled to be released to the public this year, but that did not happen. The question on many migraine sufferers minds is why their migraine headache relief did not come true?
This medication has been anticipated for just about two years now. It has been advertised both in magazines and on the internet. This was supposed to be the “miracle medicine” that migraine patients have been waiting for, Telcagepant was supposed to give every migraine patients their lives back. It was claimed that there would be no side effects with this drug. This was a huge relief for anyone who suffers with migraines. But that relief did not last longer than a single year.

Migraine headache and associated headaches such as muscle contraction and chronic tension headache are all potentially relieved with the use of Botox. It was originally used for treatment of crossed eyes and twisted necks. Most people have heard of it’s use for reducing wrinkles in the face and around the eyes. Many patients who received it for cosmetic purposes found a significacnt relief in headache pain. A number of research studies have been done that have shown its effectiveness for headache relief. Over 30 million people in the U.S. suffer from chronic disability of chronic headaches.
Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox) is a new therapeutic option for the preventive treatment of migraine and chronic tension type headache. It offers several advantages over current drug therapy. Injections are given every three to four months. When botox works, it eliminates or reduces the the need for daily medications or acute medicines for severe attacks. There are few side effects from the injections, except for minimal discomfort at the time of injection. Drooping of the eyelid is an occasional side effect. On rare occasions patients get aching in injected muscles, usually for just a couple days. Partial paralyzes of muscles is botox’s mechanism of action. The use of botox has often shown a reduction in pain that is more significant than it’s action on the muscles themselves. It is believed that small fibers containing pain-producing chemicals such as Substance P are affected by Botulinum toxin. Botox is more than likey to work in ways that have not been discovered yet.

Do you suffer from tension headaches? A hot tub may be your answer for relief. Hydrotherapy treatments can increase circulation to the muscles of the neck and head, relaxing them. Moist heat can decrease muscle spasm and hydrotherapy jets can soothe aching muscles.
Therapy Technique #1 – Get into the hot tub, turn the jets on as high as you can stand them. Place a cold, damp towel on the part of your head that’s most affected by the pain. If after five minutes the cold towel isn’t helping, alternate a cold and warm towel periodically to release muscle tension.

It could possibly be a fair guess that every person has experienced the discomfort of a headache. If it comes to painfulness, the common, ordinary headache does not even start to compare to migraine headaches. Actually, I used to get migraines when I was very young but they ended. They lasted several years and then suddenly stopped, and I am thrilled for that. There is much to be discovered about migraines because they are not understood by researchers. There are many reasons for this not the least of which is individuals can perceive and feel pain in distinct ways. This is a hugely involved area, and this indicates doctors have a long way to go before a clear picture emerges.
Even so, just like with so many topics in medicine, a lot is recognized about migraine headaches. You can hear migraines referenced as a form of vascular headache, and that merely means it is related to the system of veins and vessels in our body. People happen to be known to get a migraine when exposed to excessive temperatures in either direction. Next there are people who can have this type of headache if they encounter abnormal sleep loss or too much hunger. All this implies that there are external factors for migraines in a few people. Another reason for a migraine can be excessive and chronic amounts of stress.
