Migraines might be considered the worst of all head pains, but cluster headaches might not be far behind. Presenting with massive amounts of pain in and around a single eye, these headaches come on fast, hit hard, go away and then come back again in rapid succession. The fast-paced nature of these headaches gives rise to the name.

Cluster headaches are considered very dramatic occurrences and can strike their sufferers as much as eight times a day. The pain involved in an attack can be as short lived as five minutes or span out to cover three hours or more.

Cluster headache sufferers often describe the pain involved as explosive, excruciating and piercing. The best description is like the pain that might go along with having an ice pick jammed into a single eye. The pain, in fact, can be so severe that some sufferers are known to bang their heads on hard surfaces during attacks.

Fortunately, cluster headache problems are not very common, but for those who suffer from the condition that’s little comfort. In addition to the stabbing pain in the eye, a cluster headache can also come along with such symptoms nasal congestion, watery eyes, swollen eyelids and more. The patient’s heart beat may increase dramatically during an attack.

Those who ensure cluster headache symptoms for long periods of time sometimes develop other conditions as a result. Anxiety, or fear of another attack, and even depression can be very real side effects of the headache condition. Considering this, it’s a very good idea to seek assistance in getting the symptoms under control.

While there isn’t a 100 percent effective cure for cluster headache symptoms, there is some help available. There are some drugs available to help those who suffer from cluster headache symptoms. The typical treatments include those that help lessen the pain during attacks and other drugs that help prevent attacks from coming on in the first place. There are even some surgical procedures that can help with the condition.

One unusual feature that tends to go along with cluster headache attacks is the inherent intermittent nature of the condition. Attacks can come on for weeks on end and then stop for an extended duration. This in and of itself gives rise to the concerns about anxiety disorder setting in as a result of the headaches.

Cluster headaches are not as common as other forms of head pain, but they are one of the worst conditions that can arise. Coming on hard and fast, these headaches leave their sufferers feeling drained and feeling very afraid of another attack that might yet come. Since they do tend to bunch up, once one strikes, those who suffer are almost guaranteed a repeat, and unwanted, performance.

Article by Jared Winston

Headaches are not an uncommon phenomenon. Many people experience headaches from time to time. Most are mild, temporary annoyances that are easily remedied, and often are simply a symptom of a larger issue such as a sinus infection. Some headaches (such as migraines) are more severe and often more consistent than your basic pains. However, the garden-variety headaches and even migraine headaches cannot even hold a candle to the pain and suffering of a cluster headache. The experience of a cluster headache has been compared by those suffering it to the feeling of having an amputation performed on them without the use of an anesthetic.

Needless to say, this is a condition that is debilitating to those who suffer from it. Often times the frequency of the headaches is quite a bit more trying on a person the pain of a cluster headache is. As the name suggests, these headaches occur in ‘clusters.’ These groups of headaches may last anywhere from a few days to a matter of weeks, and headaches may occur several times a day during these periods.

There are two types of this condition, which are distinctive due to the differences in the frequency of the attacks between the two types. In the first type, known as episodic headaches, is typically characterized by a ‘cluster’ of headaches that will last for days or weeks, followed by a period of remission in which the sufferer will not have headaches at all. These periods of remission may be as long as several years in length, and both begin and end suddenly and without warning. The second type is chronic cluster headaches. This form of the condition is characterized by very little if any period of remission between attacks. These clusters are a nearly constant fixture in the lives of those who suffer from the chronic form.

The exact cause of cluster headaches is unknown. There are a number of possible theories that are being investigated within the medical community, but they remain unproven. The condition is rare, and as such it is often difficult to obtain enough data on these headaches to make any significant analysis of the condition. What is known is that men are several times more likely to experience a cluster headache than women are, and that the majority of attacks occur at night, shortly after the sufferer has fallen asleep.

Distinct changes in a person’s everyday life, most particularly their sleeping patterns, seem to be likely to bring on a cluster headache attack, indicating that a person’s natural rhythm may be somehow responsible for a cluster headache. Again, the connection is unclear, but there is hope for breakthrough in future research. Until then, there are a few methods of treating a cluster headache. These treatments generally include two medications, one that prevents headaches, and one which eases the pain of attacks when they occur. Taken together, these drugs are usually effective in bringing the condition down to levels that a person can handle, but they are most certainly not a cure.

Article by Dr. Hans Freericks, D.C.

Headaches plague most people at some time. The common response to a headache is to take a pain reliever and rest. This works for a day or two but can get in the way of every day life when the headache lasts much longer. Chiropractors have a very high success rate of relieving and eliminating headaches.

A chiropractor can diagnose potential problems by reviewing a patient’s medical history, along with conducting a thorough examination. This is because many headaches begin with a spinal misalignment in the neck or cervical spine.

Nerves in an individual’s body carry vital information about pain and the musculoskeletal functions. Because of this, a spinal misalignment can lead to nerve interference and dysfunction. The result is that individuals may experience muscle stiffness, spasms, muscle tension, pain, and eventually chronic headaches.

Specific chiropractic adjustments can help correct spinal joint dysfunction created by the various chemical, emotional and physical stresses in an individual’s life. An adjustment is a gentle, specific, push on the vertebra to guide it back into place. It is so gentle it can be performed on children, even newborn babies.

Patients frequently report relief from headaches following treatment by a chiropractor. While some may feel immediate relief, others may take longer to see correction of their problem, especially if the problem existed for many years without detection.

There are several triggers that can lead to headaches, which include:

* Chemical stressors (i.e., hormonal changes)

* Physical stressors (i.e., structural problems)

* Emotional stressors (anxiety)

* Even medications intended to relieve headaches can intensify their pain

Regardless of the cause, headaches can result in disruption of the balance of an individual’s nervous system. The result is alteration of the spinal column, causing a series of spinal misalignments known as subluxations. Untreated, subluxations can lead to irreversible spinal degeneration.

Chiropractic care can help correct spinal misalignments created by various stressors, regardless of the cause. The result is a more-effective approach to treating headaches and related musculoskeletal problems without painful surgery or medications that may produce side-effects.

Using pain medication to treat headaches is dangerous for two reasons. By covering up the pain there is no effort made to identify the source of the problem and the injury becomes more inflamed and difficult to treat. Second, certain ingredients in pain medication put stress on the stomach, the kidneys and the liver. Over time, medication can cause problems with these organs and the headache is still there.

Treating headaches usually begins with identifying the different types of headaches including:

* Migraine Headaches, which usually result in:

1. One-sided pain associated with nausea

2. Moderate to severe pain

3. A throbbing sensation

4. Extreme sensitivity to light, sound and touch

5. Visual “aura”

* Tension Headaches. These usually involve:

1. A steady, dull pain that produces the sensation of wearing a cap

2. Mild to moderate pain

3. Tension in the neck or head

4. Moderate sensitivity to light or sound

* Cluster Headaches, which may result in:

1. Pain near the forehead or around the eyes

2. Excruciating pain

3. Penetrating, throbbing pain

4. A series of headaches

5. Watery, swollen eyes

Chiropractors have a very high success rate treating headaches. Many patients are surprised how simple the migraine headache treatment is once they understand the chiropractor is simply guiding misaligned vertebra back in place and that is the source of their pain.

In recent times the International Headache Society has added a third primary group of headache(s) to the two primary headache types – migraine and tension-type headache.

This third primary group includes Cluster headache, Chronic Paroxysmal Hemicrania, and SUNCT (Short lasting Unilateral Neuralgia form headache attack with Conjunctival injection and Tearing!) and Hemicrania Continua.

Chronic Paroxysmal Hemicrania is very similar to Cluster Headache and is often described as the female equivalent of Cluster Headache (Cluster Headache is more frequent in males).

It is interesting to note a report demonstrating that both chronic Paroxysmal Hemicrania and Hemicrania Continua (thought to be two different types of headache) respond to the same medication – Indomethacin. (Indomethacin is a non steroidal anti inflammatory drug used to reduce pain)

I have written before that Cluster Headache and Hemicrania Continua respond to blocking or injecting of the greater occipital nerve i.e. a feature of Cervicogenic (neck-related) Headache – just more evidence to support the role of neck disorders in many different headache forms …..

====

YourHeadacheSoultions.co.uk is one voice of the Watson Headache Institute.

The Watson Headache Institute was established to increase the awareness of cervicogenic (neck) disorders in headache and migraine by imparting my (and that of others) clinical experience and knowledge; to present and discuss past and present relevant research and to undertake and support rigorous clinical and scientific research in this specialty.

Appropriate and up-to-date knowledge is self-empowering; I believe that every headache sufferer has the right to know their headache diagnosis as precisely as possible (and what it means), to know the nature of their headache disorder, its outcome and possible types of treatment.

What has yet to gain acceptance is my (and that of others) belief, supported by my unparalleled clinical experience and a significant body of international research, that it is incorrect to consider headache and migraine types as totally different entities and that cervicogenic (neck) disorders can be instrumental in the headache and migraine process.

Although Physiotherapy, Chiropractic and Osteopathy are different disciplines, we are supporters of the idea that headache and migraine sufferers, no matter what their diagnoses, can be helped to live their lives more effectively through appropriate neck treatment. However, because treatment of the neck does not fit the medical model of headache and migraine, the model has demonstrated little interest in exploring this as an option. It is essential that all factors, which have the potential to sensitise the brainstem, be investigated equally. Currently this is not the situation – the neck is largely disregarded.

So, whilst YourHeadacheSolutions.com is also about Education, it is also a directory for headache and migraine sufferers to source practitioners who have a particular interest in and are skilled in examination of the neck as a source of your headache or migraine – to create a more comprehensive approach and provide an alternative, medication-free treatment.

ver the past 15 years I have developed a series of techniques, which, by way of temporary reproduction of headache and easing of the headache as a technique is sustained, confirm that a neck disorder is the cause of or a significant factor in the mechanism of the headache or migraine – this a key diagnostic criterion for cervicogenic or neck involvement in headache according to the International Headache Society – importantly for the disorder to be related to the headache or migraine process the headache has to ease as the technique is maintained. If both reproduction and lessening are not possible then the neck may not be the source of the headache or migraine. Furthermore my experience has shown that if the techniques are performed in a specific manner it is possible to determine which spinal segment is the cause of or contributing significantly to headache and migraine. Having determined which spinal segment (or segments — there may be more than one) is involved then this significantly increases the chance of the treatment being successful because treatment can be directed at specific, relevant spinal segments.

The application of these techniques in Europe, United Kingdom and Australia has become known as the ‘Watson Headache Approach’ and forms the basis of courses I present for physiotherapists, chiropractors and osteopaths in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, Belgium, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Norway and Spain — refer www.headacheeducation.com

The Watson Headache Institute was established to increase the awareness of cervicogenic (neck) disorders in headache and migraine by:

imparting my (and that of others) clinical experience and knowledge

and,

undertaking and supporting rigorous clinical and scientific research in this specialty.

Cluster headaches are almost frequently misunderstood to be migraines or several other types of headaches. They are a neurological disease that requires an intense number of pain that can last for minutes or hours hence it is nicknamed suicidal headache.

It is a terrible type of headache to the highest degree general in men that usually comes out behind or around an eye, sometimes beaming to the neck or shoulder and is very tough. Cluster headaches are repetitive headaches and can happen at any age yet most common in adolescence and middle age. The main grounds of these headaches is not known but family history plays a minor role in cluster headache than a few different types of headaches.

Heavy smoking, some medications, an interruption in normal sleep patterns, problems with the hypothalamus that is known to control the body s biological clock, alcohol use, stress and certain foods are some of the causes that trigger cluster headaches.. Cluster headaches start as critical, jerky headaches and occur 2 to 3 hours before falling asleep. It makes the eye and nose on the same side swell up, red and runny, and the headache remains on the same side of the head occurring repeatedly every day at the same time for several weeks before it goes away.

Cluster headaches oftentimes go undiagnosed for numerous years as patients often adopt it to be a migraine or other causes of headaches. Surprisingly enough, cluster headache treatments do not cure the headache; rather it relieves you from pain. The doctor may prescribe several weeks of anti-inflammatory, steroid hormone, medicinal drugs starting with a full dose at first then gradually minifying it. Breathing in 100% oxygen for some patients helps them relieve the pain. To prevent the headache doctors may order medicines such as Ergot preparations and Methysergide maleate however, double checking with the doctor for potential side effects is advisable.

Telling the doctor what happens while experiencing a headache is the only way to diagnose the condition. The doctor may then order an MRI to confirm his diagnosis.

Though cluster headaches are bad and insufferable at times it is not believed to be life-threatening and normally doesn t cause lasting functional changes. However cluster headaches are critical in terms of pain and can can mess up with daily procedures and activities thus it is always best to see a GP when early symptoms of cluster headaches set about.

These headaches can range from mild irritations to a debilitating pain crisis that demands immediate treatment. Headaches are researched across the medical community, but causes remain a mystery. The medical community has broken headaches into a few easily classified categories.

The first natural sinus headache treatment is the hot and cold compression. Apply a hot compress over the sinus pain areas for 2-3 minutes and then a cold compress for 30-60 seconds. Repeat this effective technique for 3 to 4 times per treatment.

An effective treatment for migraines will include the occasional use of abortive migraine medication. Zomig, Axert, and Imitrex are a few examples. In addition, Aleve will be periodically advised to give the Triptan, or abortive medication, an effective boost.

Cluster headaches also known as “Suicide headache” are considered some of the most extreme and painful headaches you can get. They usually occur in group or clusters in your head. The sufferers from these types of headaches experience symptoms like: Very severe headaches near one eye or around the temple area.

Cluster headache treatment is not an exact science. Instead of a lifelong regimen of medication, cluster headache treatment is usually a matter of lifestyle alteration. Avoiding drugs and alcohol should be a mandatory first step. Although prevention is difficult, cluster headache treatment measures such as powerful pain killers can be necessary to have on hand.

Once the onset of the migraine symptoms, such as a swelling sensation on a certain portion of your head, nausea, and weariness, manifest themselves, it is wise to move to taking the abortive prescriptions as prescribed by your doctor. The most common group of headache busters is called triptans, which are primed to control serotonin. However, this group of medicines, which include Sumatriptan, Naratriptan, and Almotriptan, among others, exclusively targets headaches and is not used for body pains.

Many people often look for alternatives treatments for migraine headaches. Acupuncture is a good treatment that can help relieve headaches. People often use acupuncture to reduce the severity of the migraine headaches and reduce the frequency that they occur. These alternative therapies can also be used to reduce the side effects of migraines such as sickness, stress, muscle tension and fatigue.

The truth of the matter is it really depends on the treatment that you end up seeking and the level at which you are using pills or treatments etc. That also depends on the level or frequency of the migraine headaches you are experiencing.

Migraines can also be relieved by using cold compresses on other parts of the body, in particular the temples and forehead. In addition to cold, you can also use heat to reduce symptoms. Taking a hot bath will increase the blood flow to your body instead of your head and will also be very relaxing.
main a mystery.

Before using any of the cluster headache treatment available to you there’s a couple of thing you should be aware of. But first I think it would be a good idea to better inform you about what cluster headaches really are before going into the different cluster headache treatment. Don’t you think?

What are Cluster Headaches?

Cluster headaches also known as “Suicide headache” are considered some of the most extreme and painful headaches you can get. They usually occur in group or clusters in your head. The sufferers from these types of headaches experience symptoms like: Very severe headaches near one eye or around the temple area. The duration of those headaches can vary between fifteen minutes to three hours.

What are The Cluster Headaches Treatment Options?

Unfortunately there is not many options when it comes to cluster headache treatment. One of the best to date is know as “abortive treatment” and is quite simple. During the onset of a cluster headache the most common type of abortive treatment is the inhalation of pure oxygen.

This technique as been known to abort cluster headache attacks in as little as 5 minutes; however the downside is that you need to have oxygen ready at any time just in case you would have another attack.

Of course like any other condition there is always the use of over-the-counter medicine for this particular type of headaches. Unfortunately this kind of cluster headache treatment is not considered as being very effective. A lot of people complain that they tried all the different prescriptions and that none of them was able to remove the pain of the cluster headache.

Of all the headache types out there, cluster headaches are probably the worst kind. If you are suffering from this type of headache, I can imagine how hopeless you might feel. Unfortunately there is very small quantity of helpful treatments available to you.

Rest assured, there is hope for you. I know this is not an easy situation but you should avoid getting frustrated and remain calm about it. Of course it will take time and effort but you will eventually be able to find some form of treatment that will help you feel with the pain.

The best option for you would be to talk to your doctor. The diagnosis you will get will help you find the best treatment possible according to your condition.

Ladies Everywhere have been searching for a Menstural Migraine Treatment. Of the many symptoms that are sometimes associated with menopause, migraines might be the hardest to understand. For women interested by good nutrition and overall good health that also suffer with migraines, finding the best diet during menopause might be particularly troublesome.

Millions of girls suffer with migraine headaches, and therefore have been on the lookout for a proven menstural migraine treatment that doesn’t involve stacks of medicines. The Menopause can be good news for some and unpleasant news for others. It would appear that changing hormonal levels trigger migraine attacks in those that are susceptible. Girls suffering from monthly or menstrual migraines find that they have fewer headaches during menopause and post-menopause as hormone levels become lower, but more stable. On the other hand, women who only had migraines during puberty, when hormonal levels were changing seriously, sometimes see them return during menopause and the years leading in to menopause, because, once more, hormone levels are changing.

Many women note a relationship between their menstrual cycles and migraine headaches, experiencing more headaches on the days of the cycle when estrogen levels are at their lowest. Logically, this relationship caused researchers to suspect that low levels of estrogen triggered the headaches. This should be one way towards your menstural migraine treatment.
Doctors have noted an increase in migraine attacks among girls taking contraception pills containing high quantities of estrogen. No one knows exactly what effect estrogen and other hormones have on the neural pathways in the brain or on the chemicals that transmit signals among them, but it is clear that there’s an effect. Avoiding menopause migraines will likely need an individual approach to treatment, recording private triggers and making adjustments in medicines.

Migraines can be triggered by different foods and beverages. Many of those are personal triggers, only inspiring a tiny low number of women. Some of the foods and substances that ordinarily trigger migraines include caffeine, chocolate, and the food preservative MSG, aged cheeses, alcohol, and food additives known as nitrates found in hot dogs, pepperoni and other saved meats. Either excess caffeine consumption or withdrawal from caffeine can trigger migraines.

The best diet during menopause for heart health is one that basically consists of fruits and vegetables, using meats as a side dish. A whole grain, such as oatmeal, which is high in diet fiber and low in fat, is also a sensible choice. Even, if it claims multi grain on the label, check the ingredients. You would like the prime ingredient to be a grain, for example oats. Wheat flour also contributes to distension and irregularity in women over forty.
Calcium reinforcement is good insurance for bone health, but be sure to include sufficient amounts of vitamin D and magnesium. Else the body cannot properly soak up the calcium. A good diet supplement for girls during menopause can increase energy and overall feeling of contentment. Another diet consideration for preventing menopause migraines is tryptophan, an amino acid found in numerous foods, but mainly dairy products and also rolled oats. Not to be confused with triptans, which are pharmaceuticals infrequently prescribed to prevent menopause migraines and cluster headaches, but a dietary part with an analogous action. 5-HTP is a form of tryptophan that is included in some diet additions designed particularly for women.

Acupuncture is a very old and popular technique from traditional Chinese medicines. It is very ancient and since then practiced to cure various diseases in patients. This technique due to its popularity has spread all over the world. The western medical system has worked on its principles and evolved with new techniques in acupuncture theses techniques are improved version of basic acupuncture. Acupuncture has proved itself helpful for circulatory, respiratory, muscular, neurological, and digestive disorders. Besides that, it helps to give you a beautiful skin through techniques involved in cosmetic acupuncture, and auricular acupuncture is helpful for all body systems.

The original acupuncture treatment uses plastic or glass needles which are inserted in certain points in the body. These points are termed as acupuncture points. They are located on the energy channels in the body. Each acupuncture point is associated with a body part so their pinching causes stimulation ion that organ. The energy channels are called as meridians which carry energy all through the body. Any disorder in body is caused due to the blockage in pathways of energy and acupuncture always works to open those blocked paths. Western practitioners have evolved different methods to simulate organs, they uses laser, electric impulses, magnetic radiations so that pain involved in acupuncture can be avoided.

Among the various neurological disorders on which acupuncture works comes the headaches. It is effective in nay type of headache like migraine headaches, tension and cluster headaches. It causes an immediate effect on headaches and prevents their frequent occurrence. Some neurological disorders include stagnation in nerve functioning also called nerve degenerating disorder. When needles are inserted in nerves, it causes stimulation at the point and thus regaining their activity. Sometimes electric stimulation is also used for nerve stimulation. Besides these, it is helpful in stroke rehabilitation, damage due to stroke like hardening of arteries, hypertension and head injuries and treats kinds of tumors. This is also used during brain surgery and supports treatment of Parkinson’s disease, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, nerve deafness

Acupuncture treatment is famous for its effect in pain and stiffness in muscles. At times, sue to stress and fatigue muscles get contracted and their movement is restricted. With acupuncture on muscles related points, muscle movement is restarted. It increases blood flow and oxygen to muscle tissues and thus providing them necessary nutrition and energy to work actively. Diseases like myofascial muscle syndrome which causes acute pain in neck, shoulders, elbows and knee have great effect of acupuncture. Along with these, tendonitis, strains inflammation and sprains in muscles are also removed with acupuncture. In bone fracture chronic pain can be avoid with acupuncture if bones are damaged from sprain and tear in tendons and ligaments.

Thus this acupuncture treatment is effective in various muscular, skeleton and neurological disorders. This therapy works for those also who are tired of taking drugs but do not see any results. Also for those who do not want to take harmful medicines, this method is beneficial. But you have to choose a licensed practitioner to avoid any infection and other harmful effects from this treatment. This is very safe and natural technique with no pain and no harm.

Headaches are a common problem and many factors such as poor posture and stress can lead to different types of headaches. Sometimes misalignments in the vertebrae cause nerve irritation and exert pressure on the nerves leading to the brain. This may lead to cluster headaches and migraines. Advanced chiropractic treatment methods help patients to get relief from headache issues and lead a healthy lifestyle. Various healthcare practices offer specialized chiropractic treatments for headaches.

Best Treatment for Headache Relief

As drugs and injections only reduce the intensity of headaches, people nowadays are looking for a natural method that would reduce pain as well as eliminate the cause of pain. Latest chiropractic techniques help people to get rid of headache and also provide the ways to prevent future problems. Application of gentle and skilled chiropractic adjustments will reduce the pressure on the spinal nerves and muscles and it will automatically reduce the symptoms of headache. By restoring the proper function, chiropractic methods reduce the incidence of future headache problems.

Safe and Effective Way

The major aim of chiropractic care is to reduce and eliminate the abnormal neurological function that causes severe and chronic headache problems. Non-intrusive chiropractic techniques help the spinal system to work properly and it will effectively reduce the frequency and duration of migraine and tension headaches.

During the initial consultation, the chiropractor thoroughly examines the overall function of your body and performs specific tests to find the root cause of your headache problem. Depending on the patient’s medical condition, the chiropractor will design an individual headache treatment plan. Many insurance companies provide coverage for chiropractic care—however, before scheduling a chiropractic treatment plan, you have to make sure whether it is covered or not.

Everyone has a headache once in a while, but many people may not know what kind of headache they are having and how it can be treated effectively. If you are wondering what kind of headache you have and how to know what it is, then you are in the right place.
What Kind Of Headaches Are There?
There are several different kinds of headaches that you may experience. Some are caused by stress to your life and others by outside influences. There are five main kinds of headaches that you may experience in your life.
1. The first type is a tension headache. These are the most common types to deal with and everyone has one as least once in their life. These headaches usually feel dull and achy and can also feel like a constant pressure in the head. They normally are above the temples or on the back of the head and neck.
These kinds of headaches usually are not the kind that will stop someone from doing what they would normally do on a daily basis, but can be annoying to the person that is having them.
2. Cluster headaches are another kind of headache and usually effect men more than women. These headaches usually occur in clusters in one area of the head and are not usually accompanied by nausea or vomiting. They can however be very painful and move in fast. These attacks usually have no warning and they have no real preventive measures.
3. Sinus headaches are a third kind of headache that can happen. These headaches are pretty common and usually happen when the sinus cavity is inflamed and irritated. A fever may go along with this kind of headache as well, and it can usually be found by a CAT scan of the head. These headaches may be treated with an antihistamine and a little rest.
4. Rebound headaches are also a type of headache that you may have to deal with. These headaches are caused by using too much pain relievers and can be made worse by them.
A theory on this kind of headache says that when you use to many pain relievers, your body changes it’s chemistry to make up for it and has a hard time getting back to the normal way it was.
5. Migraines are the last and most painful type of headache. These usually are found on one side of the head and can cause extreme pain. The only real treatment is to see a doctor and be placed on medication for the migraine headaches. That way you will be able to stop them before they start.
Headaches are a common thing that almost everyone has to deal with at one time or another. If you are not sure what kind of headache you are dealing with, the best thing that you can do is to call your doctor and ask for their advice. That way you will be better able to handle the headaches that you get and stop them before they start.

Typically a headache can be called a pain in the head or the upper part of the neck. This is one of the most common of pains that is suffered by a majority of people at some point in their lives. Moreover the head is the one part of the body that often suffers pain. Basically headaches can be categorized into three; namely the primary headaches, the secondary headaches and the cranial neuralgia, facial pain or various other headaches.

The primary category of headaches can be migraine headaches, tension headaches, cluster headaches etc. Of these the migraine headache is very widespread. Both sexes suffer migraines but after puberty it is said that women are more prone to migraines than men. A rarer kind of headache is the cluster headache which is a sharper kind of pain that seems to occur many times a day and goes on for many months. It is found more in men between 28 and 30 years of age.

The secondary headaches are usually attributed to some fundamental problems in the structure of the head or neck. These sorts of headaches can be caused by internal hemorrhaging in the head, tumors, brain fever or encephalitis.

In fact the brain on its own cannot sense a headache for the simple reason that it does not have nociceptors but the head consists of many pain sensitive receptors that are located both inside and outside the cranium and in fact the pain is caused when these receptors are disturbed.

Not all types of headaches need the attention of a doctor and invariably most of them disappear if the victim takes a painkiller like an acetaminophen, a paracetamol, an aspirin or an ibuprofen.

One treatment that seems to do wonders for many people who suffer headaches is acupuncture. It has been found very effective for chronic headache sufferers. Many people have started trying herbal remedies for headaches too.

The more serious and uncommon headaches can be caused by an aneurysm in the brain, or a tumor or hyper tension that results in a stroke. These require the attention of the doctor and ensure that you contact a medical practitioner if your headaches are sudden and violent, it impairs your sight or speech or you find that you have problems trying to move any of your limbs.

The author informs readers on how migraine headache pain differs from other kinds of pain; enumerates the different causes of headache pain; as well as explains the various types of headache pain. The article also cites a couple of guidelines and precautions on using headache pain relief medications.

One of the most complex forms of illnesses is the migraine headache pain. In fact, this condition is very common as it does not only triggers adults, but teenagers and children as well. Although unpleasant, headache pain is basically regarded as a normal part of a person’s daily life. Since headache pain is among the top reasons for medical appointments to doctors and physicians today, it only proves that there is really nothing more typical on this type of illness.

The major causes of headache pain vary from the different cases of headache. Among the top factors that trigger headache pain are viruses, bio-chemicals, hormones, and bacteria. Genetics also has something to do with a person’s susceptibility to headache pains. People with low levels of serotonin are more likely to suffer from headache. Serotonin is the neuro-chemical that protects an individual from pain. So before you can heal your headache here are the types of headaches.

Determining different types of headache pain

While irritating and unpleasant pain is inevitable in all types of headache, it actually comes in different forms. It is really important for one to know the various types of headache pain in order to have proper diagnosis and application of headache pain relief treatments.

1. Migraine headache pain- This type of pain occurs on the one side of the head. The pain can become severe to the point that it can interfere with a person’s daily productivity.

2. Cluster headache pain- This type of headache pain is severe and sudden. Although a cluster headache has a shorter duration compared to other types of headache, it can trigger up to six times in one day.

3. Sinus headache pain- An infection, swelling, and irritation of the sinuses can spark a sinus headache pain. This type of headache pain is oftentimes mistaken with tension and migraine pains.

4. Rebound migraine headache pain- A rebound migraine headache pain is oftentimes caused by over-consumption of migraine headache medications. Instead of diminishing the pain, pain reliever drugs can ultimately cause headache pains when abused.

What is a headache?

A Headache is defined as a pain in the head or upper neck. It is one of the most common locations of pain in the body and has many causes.

How are headaches classified?

Headaches have numerous causes, and in 2007 the International Headache Society agreed upon an updated classification system for headache. Because so many people suffer from headaches and because treatment sometimes is difficult, it is hoped that the new classification system will allow health care practitioners come to a specific diagnosis as to the type of headache and to provide better and more effective treatment.

There are three major categories of headaches:
primary headaches,

secondary headaches, and

cranial neuralgias, facial pain, and other headaches

Medicines for a headache

What are primary headaches?

Primary headaches include migraine, tension, and cluster headaches, as well as a variety of other less common types of headache.
Tension headaches are the most common type of primary headache. Up to 90% of adults have had or will have tension headaches. Tension headaches occur more commonly among women than men.

Migraine headaches are the second most common type of primary headache. An estimated 28 million people in the United States (about 12% of the population) will experience a migraine headache. Migraine headaches affect children as well as adults. Before puberty, boys and girls are affected equally by migraine headaches, but after puberty, more women than men are affected. It is estimated that 6% of men and up to 18% of women will experience a migraine headache in their lifetime.

Cluster headaches are a rare type of primary headache affecting 0.1% of the population (1 in a 1,000 people). It more commonly affects men in their late 20s though women and children can also suffer these types of headache.

Primary headaches can affect the quality of life. Some people have occasional headaches that resolve quickly while others are debilitated. While these headaches are not life-threatening, they may be associated with symptoms that can mimic strokes or intracerebral bleeding.

What are secondary headaches?

Secondary headaches are those that are due to an underlying structural problem in the head or neck. There are numerous causes of this type of headache ranging from bleeding in the brain, tumor, or meningitis and encephalitis.

Headache pain occurs over the eyes or ears, in the back of the head , or behind the upper neck. There are two major groups of the headache. These are primary headaches and secondary headaches.

Primary headaches are migraine headaches, tension headaches, or cluster headaches
A migraine is neurological condition that affects more women than men. Migraine headaches are severe and alter bodily perceptions. People become very sensitive to light and sound.

A tension or tension-type headache is the most frequently occurring type of primary headache. A tension headache can have radiating pain from the eyes, neck and back, Typically tension headaches last 4-6 hours.

Cluster headaches are not very common, but they are immensely painful. Men are more commonly effected. While primary headaches are not linked to a particular disease, secondary headaches are caused by diseases like brain tumors or meningitis.

A headache is one the most common places for pain in the body and has many causes. Treatments for migraines include shots of Imitrex or pain killers. Many people also find relief by visiting a chiropractor. Spinal misalignments put pressure on different muscle groups and nerves in the body.

By paying close attention to your symptoms you can describe your condition as precisely as possible to a doctor or a chiropractor. You should come prepared to answer these types of questions in a much detail as possible.

5 Headache Questions

1. Where is it located?
2. How long does it last?
3. How severe are they?
4. What is the nature of the headache?
5. What seems to trigger the headache?

A chiropractor eliminates the headaches by repositioning the first cervical vertebrae, removing pressure that passes through it.

Seeing a chiropractor can be a time commitment. You may need be treated over several weeks with numerous visits. Most people are free from symptoms after four to six treatments. These treatments should also include adjustment and massages.

Reflexology, is another technique that has been proven to bring relief from migraines. This technique in combination with chiropractic visits has allowed some people to treat their symptoms with less medication. The pressure points in the hands and feet are capable of releasing pressure in other parts of the body.

Practitioners of reflexology believe you become aware of more of your body giving your signals that might help you sense the small things that indicate a migraine is about to occur. They also believe reflexology helps improve general well-being and improves natural energy levels.

Depending on how often and severe the type of headaches your are having are, you may have to try a combination of strategies for treatment. Certainly, whether you seek the care of a doctor, chiropractor, or practitioner of reflexology, you should spend the time to document your symptoms thoroughly. That way you can give the most accurate description to the person that will be treating you.

You may find that one type of treatment is sufficient but don’t give up if you have trouble getting relief at first. It may take a combination of approaches to deal with your symptoms appropriately.

Do you suffer from chronic low back pain, headaches, spinal surgery, or want to lose weight?

The Incorporation of Progressive Rehabilitation with latest in chiropractic care will help. Use of non-surgical spinal decompression, nutritional counseling, weight loss with the Triple Pledge Satisfaction.

As there are many different types of headaches there are also many headache remedy for sinus, migraine, cluster and tension headaches. Millions of Americans suffer from some type of headache and have visited a physician to find effective treatment. With the many types of remedies that have occurred over the years a few have found to be better then others and are used for headache sufferers, not matter what type of headache they have.

A useful headache remedy that can help equalize your body’s chemistry, as your urine alkalinity increases with a headache, is to take some apple cider vinegar. A glass of this acidic solution can bring your pH down to normal. You can use pH strips to test the levels, as you may not know the correct amount to take at first.

Eucalyptus oil mixed with a carrier oil can be used to massage your forehead. This type of aromatherapy treatment has been found to be effective for many individuals that get headaches.

Alternative Headache Remedies Without Using Drugs

Feverfew has been used to treat headaches for hundreds of years and can be effective on headaches associated with menstruation, meningitis and cluster headache, just chew on a few leaves. You may also be able to use feverfew health capsules or a tincture. Feverfew and aspirin work in similar ways as they both reduce inflammation. The inflammation of the blood vessels in your brain is thought to be a major cause of headaches.

Ginger and honey are also good headache remedies. Honey allows the blood to go through properly and ginger contains chemicals that can stop your blood vessels from expanding or becoming inflamed.

There are many other types of oils that can be used to relieve headache pain such as rosemary oil, lavender oil and peppermint oil. You can apply these oils to your neck, temples and forehead and they are said to be very soothing. Menthol is also used to relax the temporal muscles and particularly good for headaches related to tension and stress.

Litchum salts and peppermint tea have been used to treat cluster headaches. These remedies should be taken at the first sign of headache pain. You can also increase your blood flow and oxygen to the brain by taking a walk.

These are just some solutions for your migraine, cluster, tension or sinus headaches. The important thing is that you find the best remedy that suits your needs. If they persist, do not hesitate in visiting your doctor.

Vascular headache is a type of headaches that are caused by the swelling of blood vessels or other brain disturbances that result in pain. Migraines, cluster headaches, and toxic headaches are all types of vascular headaches. This article presents an overview of each type of vascular headache in hopes of providing information on the possible causes of your vascular headaches. There are many slight issues that can cause headaches and make them more severe so you need to understand what affects you headache and body in order to find the best treatment. There are many causes to vascular headaches and it is important to determine your causes and which type of headache you are suffering from.

Vascular Headache 1 – The Cluster Headache

Cluster headaches are rare and very debilitating vascular headaches. Cluster headaches are extremely painful and tend to occur in clusters or groups, hence the name. These types of headaches tend to occur around the eyes or temples and are associated with very piercing, stabbing pain and with several occurring one after another or they may occur in ways of pain with the pain easing off only to come back even stronger. Some additional symptoms to cluster headaches are runny noses, nasal congestion, drooping eyelids and other sinus issues.

Vascular Headache 2 – The Migraine Headache

Migraine headaches are unilateral and are associated with throbbing pain, which can become worse by performing physical activity. Migraine sufferers will be sensitive to light and noise and pain levels can range from moderate to very severe. Migraine headaches are linked to the disease of migraine, which can make diagnosis a problem. Many times individuals do not know that they suffer from migraine and therefore they are actually damaging their body by not having the correct treatment, as the causes of migraine are very different than the vascular headache migraine.

Vascular Headache 3 – The Toxic Headache

Toxic headaches tend to commence from fevers caused by acute illnesses that then affect blood vessels. This type of vascular headache is usually associated with the measles, mumps and pneumonia and can develop into a full-blown headache. Exposure to specific chemical can also bring about a toxic headache such as chemical solvents and pesticides. The hangover is another type of toxic headache which occurs when you drink too much alcohol. Basically the toxic headache is from having a high level of toxins in your system that will cause the blood vessels in your brain to inflame and results in pressure and a headache.

We are all familiar with the most common types of headaches: tension, migraine, and combination. A number of less common headaches cause people endless problems, as well. They are no less serious or painful than those more frequent, but they can take a bit more detective work when searching for a reason or solution. Sinus Headaches
For those with allergies or a propensity for sinus headaches, the world can be a miserable place. Defined by a deep throbbing pain in the front of the face or forehead and often accompanied by nasal discharge, these headaches are typically the result of infected sinus cavities. The pain is usually amplified by bending over. The best treatment for this kind of headache is to treat the underlying symptomology. In other words, treat the infection and the headache is likely to go away. While you wait for antibiotics to clear the infection in the sinus cavity, you can reduce the pressure by taking decongestants and over-the-counter analgesics. Cluster Headaches
These unusual headaches only affect a small portion of the population–less than 5%, thankfully. Cluster headaches are so severe that sufferers are usually unable to sit still and must pace or rock while ongoing. With the pain centered behind one eye or ear, this headache can produce tearing of the eye, burning sensations, or throbbing. A cluster of headaches will appear, one after another in an interval of a few hours or days, and then disappear. The time of remission is unpredictable which makes it very difficult to anticipate. If you are “fortunate” enough to get cluster headaches regularly at the same time each year, you may be able to pin down the source and treat it, alleviating your pain. On the positive side, even though these headaches are extremely painful it is known that they are in no way an indication of brain related problems. Treatment includes suppression, oxygen therapy and preventative prescriptions. In a last ditch effort to deal with constant cluster headaches, surgery is an option. Hormonal Headaches
These headaches are the result of hormonal changes that occur due to the monthly cycle women experience. The rotation of fertility, menstruation, and pregnancy can cause headaches for some women. Chemicals that change and affect the monthly cycle can also cause these headaches. So, if you are prone to hormonal headaches, you may want to consider alternatives to birth control pills and hormone replacement therapy. Fortunately, most headaches don’t signal anything more serious. Tension and stress is probably the biggest causative factor in developing any type of primary headache. Finding ways to reduce your stress will help you reduce the number of headaches you experience. There are classes in stress management and biofeedback that can help. Since headaches are hereditary, 90% of children who suffer from headaches have parents with the same problem. Keeping a headache journal listing daily activities and foods may help you and your child pinpoint some of the triggers so you can avoid them. Headaches are, seemingly, just a part of modern life. Fortunately, treatments are constantly being improved. Maybe someday, headaches will be a thing of the past.

Cluster headache
Clusters are another different type of headache that may not always be a headache. Rarer than migraine, and more painful, clusters usually attack men. The cause of clusters is also somewhat of a mystery. Now research, however, is giving us clues that may crack the cluster code and provide relief. Cluster headaches may be related to the sinuses, the nervous system, and serotonin. Start here to read about the cause of cluster, and then learn more about treatment!

Other headache causes and treatments
There are many more reasons why you may have a headache, and many different symptoms. Do you get a headache after you exercise? Are your headaches caused by allergies? What about an ice cream headache, a thunderclap headache, or getting a headache along with a bloody nose? Information on these headaches and more can be found on this page about your type of headache.

Are you a prisoner of migraine headache?

About 12% of the worlds population suffer with headache and no one can give you the exact answer how to treat migraine headache effectively. Each individuals have their own pain story, so it is really a good thing to make a pain diary before you go to the doctor to show him the document so he can try to find out how he can make a medical treatment just for you.
In most migraine cases women are in majority but in at least one case the migraine hit more men than women. Cluster headache seems to hit men more freequently than women. This is described more precisly on http://www.treatingmigraineheadache.com
So what is going on in your head?
One explanation is going on that the attacks is caused by changes of a body chemical they call Serotonin, which really do play a big role in the body and it can also have an effect on the blood vessel. That means, that when the Serotonin levels in your body is high your blood vessels shrink opposit when the Serotonin levels in your body fall then the blood vessel swell.
This last one causes you migraine headache and other problems too.
For some people migraine attacks started in the dreaming phase of the night or usually about 4 o´clock in the morning. Many researchers do have that opinion, that it is because that the chemical stuff in the body in some cases changes when the human body layes in a horisontal level.
However, there is still some disagrees why the pain starts in the dreaming phase.
People who freequently are attacked are very often mentally broken down too. And naturally they start to ask themself how they can get rid of migraine headache or wether there is any home remedies for migraine headaches. Get more facts by clicking on http://www.treatingmigraineheadache.com and you will understand
After all, when you first are able to understand why you suffer with migraine hedache it´s time to look up and take the next step. As I mentioned before you have to realize that you have to change your lifestyle. That is absolutely # 1.
Another thing is exercising. Making an exercising program schedule will help you to get you mentally and physically in good condition.
If it is possible you can also start with massage therapy. This can make your whole body and muscels to relax.
As you can see – there are several natural cures for migraine headaches and you can be much more wiser by clicking on http://www.treatingmigraineheadache.com .
With regards
Simon E.

These days, some 45 million people suffer from recurring headaches. And we spend $4 billion a year trying to get rid of them. Despite how common headaches are, everyone experiences them just a bit differently. The three general different types of categories are tension headaches, cluster headaches, and migraines. Since any headaches makes you feel miserable, distinguishing between the three categories may seem like splitting hairs. However, it is recommended you should know which type you are prone to, especially if your pain is chronic. It enables you to manage your pain more effectively. Here are some tips that you can consider to adopt to get relief fast and to head off headache in the future.

1.	Learn To Relax

Prolonged stress can cause the muscles in your neck and shoulders to tighten, leading to a tension headache. When you feel those muscles tensing up, that is the time to slow down and if you can, to remove yourself from the stressful situation. In fact, you do not have to wait until you are tense to take action. Allow yourself some time every day for relaxation. Find a way to interrupt your stress, even if only for a half-hour.

2.	Move It

Staying in one position for too long, whether you are hunched over your desk at work or curled up on the sofa watching television, can contribute to a headache. Get up frequently and stretch your muscles.

3.	Cool It On Caffeine

One cup of coffee or another caffeinated beverage may help half a headache. More than that can actually trigger a headache. The more caffeine you consume, the more likely you are to experience headaches. If you need to cut down on caffeine, do so gradually. Otherwise, you might develop a caffeine-withdrawal headache. It usually starts about 18 hours after you drink your last caffeinated beverage and peaks 3 to 6 hours later.

4.	Don’t Go Hungry

You are more prone to get headaches if you go for long periods of time without eating. The theory is that skipping meals causes changes in blood sugar, which in turn trigger a reaction in your body that sets you up for a headache.

5.	Head For Your Medicine Chest

Over-the-counter pain relievers such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and acetaminophen are still the treatment of choice for many folks bothered by headaches. These medications work equally well, so which one you choose is really a matter of personal preference. But you should not be using painkillers on a daily or almost-daily basis. If you are, you should see a doctor.

6.	Send The Pain Packing

Wrap a frozen gel pack in a towel and place it directly on the area that hurts. Apply the pack for up to an hour, once or twice a day. You can purchase gel packs in drugstores and medical supply stores.

7.	Feel The Heat

Apply a heating pad to your neck and shoulders to relax tight neck and shoulder muscles and ease a tension headache. Or take a hot shower, allowing the water to beat on your neck and shoulders and loosen the muscles.

Headache (cephalalgia in medical terminology) is a condition of pain in the head; sometimes neck or upper back pain may also be interpreted as a headache. Headaches are benign and self-limiting. Common causes are tension, migraine, eye strain, dehydration and sinusitis. Much rarer are headaches due to life-threatening conditions such as meningitis, encephalitis, cerebral aneurysms, and brain tumors. Headache, like chest pain or dizziness, has many causes. There are five types of headache: vascular, myogenic (muscle tension), cervicogenic, traction, and inflammatory. Vascular headache is migraine. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head, an upset stomach, and, for some people, disturbed vision. It is more common in women. While vascular changes are evident during a migraine, the cause of the headache is neurologic, not vascular. After migraine, the most common type of vascular headache is the “toxic” headache produced by fever.

Cluster headaches, which cause repeated episodes of intense pain, and headaches resulting from high blood pressure (rare). Muscular/myogenic headaches appear to involve the tightening or tensing of facial and neck muscles; they may radiate to the forehead. Tension headache is the most common form of myogenic headache. Cervicogenic headaches originate from disorders of the neck, including the anatomical structures innervated by the cervical roots C1–C3. Cervical headache is often precipitated by neck movement and/or sustained awkward head positioning. Tension headaches tend to be on both sides of your head. They often start at the back of your head and spread forward. The pain may feel dull or squeezing, like a tight band or vice. Your shoulders, neck, or jaw may feel tight and sore.

It is often accompanied by restricted cervical range of motion, ipsilateral neck, shoulder, or arm pain of a rather vague non-radicular nature or, occasionally, arm pain of a radicular nature. Traction and inflammatory headaches are symptoms of other disorders, ranging from stroke to sinus infection. Mostly causing secondary headaches including is Tumors in the brain, including tumors that have spread (metastasized) to the brain from another organ such as the lung or breast.Subdural hematomas, which are collections of blood underneath the dura (the covering of the brain) due to bleeding from ruptured veins. Subdural hematomas typically occur in elderly individuals after a fall or other trauma to the head. Sometimes the fall can precede the visit to the doctor by weeks, and the elderly patients may not even recall the fall.

Symptoms of subdural hematomas include chronic headaches, change in personality, and weakness of the extremities. Epidural hematomas, which are rapid collections of blood due to the rupture of arteries that run on the inner surface of the skull. Epidural hematomas usually are the result of skull fractures. The typical story is a head injury that causes a concussion with loss of consciousness and a skull fracture. The return of consciousness is followed by the sudden development of coma caused by an expanding hematoma.Infections such as meningitis caused by bacteria (meningococcus and pneumococcus). Hypothyroidism, a condition in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. Medications such as indomethacin, estrogen, progestins, calcium channel blockers (commonly used for treating high blood pressure), and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (commonly used to treat depression)
