Question by Susan S: is there a low sugar diet I could go on that would help with my frequent headaches?
I’ve been getting frequent headaches/migraines for as long as I can remember and I’m beginning to find out that it could be caused from too much sugar. Though my blood tests have always come back normal for my glucose, (blood pressure & cholesterol is high) even had A1c taken and was normal. Could I have problems with blood sugar even though I’m not tested diabetic?

If you are forced to deal with lots of stress–and lots of people are–headaches might be a problem that you are forced to deal with. Most people have to deal with headaches every so often but for some people they can be debilitating and chronic. While you need to get help from your doctor if you have headaches frequently or severely, home remedies like the ones we’ll be talking about here could also help you.
A quick and easy way to ease a stress headache is to use an ice pack. A good simple ice pack is a towel wrapped around a bag filled with ice or even around a bag of frozen veggies. Lie down and try to relax while putting the ice pack on your forehead and moving it every few minutes to the top of your head and your forehead. If one spot hurts more than another, make sure it gets extra time with the ice pack. Ice has the effect of numbing pain, and it can reduce the inflammation that’s causing the headache. While this won’t cure the cause of your tension headaches it can offer some quick and temporary relief.

Headaches are one of the most common occurrences in the adult population in North America and probably in the world. That probably isnt a surprise considering how much stress and overworked we are. Headaches have an enormous impact on society due to missed workdays and the loss of productivity when one is dealing with the pain, resulting in huge costs over time for any employer.
Headache is usually described as an aching or pain that occurs in one or more areas of the head, face, mouth, or neck. Headaches can have many causes, but serious causes of headaches are rare, however, anyone suffering with a pattern of headaches should pay particular caution that the pattern does not change or become more frequent. This could signal the possibility of a more serious issue. A headache that becomes worse over time, say in a period of 6 months or possibly less depending on the severity of symptoms, especially if most prominent in the morning or if accompanied by neurological symptoms would warrant a call to your physician.

If headache pain is a frequent problem for you, there are ways to help prevent them. Many headache sufferers have reported success with natural, homeopathic products, relaxation techniques, and the use of aromatherapy essential oils.
Aromatherapy may seem a little “out there” but think of how the human brain works with the olfactory senses, more commonly known as the sense of smell. It’s logical to trust that if a smell can touch off a headache, it may then also be quite effective in their prevention. There are specific aromas which are quite effective for calming nerves and reducing tension. The delicate scents of vanilla and lavender are calming to the mind and brain. They’re found in numerous bath products labeled for use in soothing and calming both tension and stress.

We live in stressful times and many people unfortunately bear witness to this by suffering from headaches. Headaches are the result of a number of different factors. In fact, often times headaches are in indication that something else is taking place in the body. For example, an impacted tooth or a jaw infection can cause a headache. Anxiety, tension, and stress can be the source of a painful headaches. Sometimes an allergy or sinus pressure causes what is known as a sinus headache. Straining the eyes can also result in headaches; eye strain is very common in those who work with small print, computer screens, or finely detailed objects. People who work with loud noises also suffer from headaches. This category includes such people as construction workers and even elementary school teachers. Some headaches are called migraines, and though they are excruciatingly painful, they have no known cause.
The most common headache remedies are Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, and Aspirin. For frequent headache sufferers, the thought of taking daily medication may not be very appealing. If the headache results from an allergy or a sinus infection, treating the source of the infection will help prevent future headaches. Headaches caused by eyestrain may indicated the need for a visit to the eye doctor. In fact, if you wear glasses and are suffering from frequent headaches, it may be a sign that you need to have your eyes checked. You may need a stronger prescription. Just as your headache may indicate the necessity for a visit to the eye doctor, it may also be a warning that you need to visit the dentist. If you are having tooth trouble, you may have discovered the cause of your headache. For those whose work makes strong demands on the eyes, it is helpful to take frequent breaks from your work and to palm the eyes. This entails using the palm of the hands to gently massage the eye area while the eyes are closed. This can relieve some of the stress from the eyes. If your work mandates that you to sit in front of a computer screen, make sure to take breaks often and to get up and walk around.
