Some foods with food additives like cheese, chocolates, MSG, caffeine, etc. may cause tension headache as well. An individual may not be aware that the food he ingested is triggering a migraine to happen.
Particularly when overused, having to take medicine is usually a headache set off, too.
If you are forced to deal with lots of stress–and lots of people are–headaches might be a problem that you are forced to deal with. Most people have to deal with headaches every so often but for some people they can be debilitating and chronic. While you need to get help from your doctor if you have headaches frequently or severely, home remedies like the ones we’ll be talking about here could also help you.

A quick and easy way to ease a stress headache is to use an ice pack. A good simple ice pack is a towel wrapped around a bag filled with ice or even around a bag of frozen veggies. Lie down and try to relax while putting the ice pack on your forehead and moving it every few minutes to the top of your head and your forehead. If one spot hurts more than another, make sure it gets extra time with the ice pack. Ice has the effect of numbing pain, and it can reduce the inflammation that’s causing the headache. While this won’t cure the cause of your tension headaches it can offer some quick and temporary relief.

You might not think that your posture plays a role in your headaches but if you have chronic bad posture, this could be the source of at least a few of them. People who spend a long time working at a computer stations, for example, suffer from this problem. Leaning forward with your head can be especially problematic, as this causes extra pressure on the neck and back. You want to keep a feel out for any extra tension in your neck and shoulders as you sit or walk around. Aside from sitting up straight while you work, you should get regular massages and regular chiropractic treatments.

There are also other systems, such as the Alexander Technique and Feldenkrais Method that work specifically on healthier posture. You can look for a professional practitioner of these methods or you can learn more about yourself by doing an internet search for videos that you can learn from.

The foods and drinks you take in can contribute to your headaches but most people don’t realize this connection. The things you think are tension headaches can sometimes be caused by allergies and food sensitivities. Many people get headaches after consuming alcohol, even when they only drink a little bit of it. Caffeine, especially for people who drink a lot of it, is another very common culprit behind headaches. Cutting back on caffeine is often the solution to getting rid of frequent headaches. Some people get headaches from eating other foods, such as chocolate, cheese or peanuts/peanut butter, depending on what you’re sensitive to. Try to find out if there is a connection between foods that you are eating and drinking and the headaches that have been causing you problems. To sum up, stress headaches are very common and can be caused by many things like not getting enough sleep, drinking too much or even just simple stress. You need to be able to properly identify the source of your headaches and address them, even when it means making changes that you might find inconvenient. Nobody wants to have to deal with constant headaches, so it is important to do what you need to do to keep them at bay.

Question by : i am having trouble sleeping and frequent headaches, should i see a doctor?
I’ve had trouble sleeping for a couple months now. I cannot sleep at night, I just toss and turn for hours on end and then I feel tired all day and now recently, I’ve been having frequent mild headaches too. Is this a sleeping disorder? Why am I getting headaches?

Best answer:

Answer by mogroovee
Common causes of trouble sleeping are:

long hours in front of a computer
not enough exercise during the day
too much caffeine during the day or in the evening
type of pillow or bedding not comfortable or allergies to bedding
room temperature too hot
having more than 1-2 alcoholic drinks nightly
high levels of stress during the day
watching or listening to something that causes your body stress before bed
unhealthy diet that shifts your hormones and disrupts melatonin production

These are just a few reasons why you could be having trouble sleeping. It can help to keep a journal of what you do throughout the day for maybe a week or two and then look for patterns.

Also the reason for the headaches during the day is sleep deprivation. Your body can only cope so long without proper sleep so headaches is one of the first things you’ll experience. It’s your body’s way of saying hey you need to fix this issue or it’s going to get worst.

Check out the article below for some really helpful tips. Whenever I have trouble sleeping it’s usually because I’m spending too many hours in front of a computer during the day and stressing too much about work. If I cut back my workload a bit and do some yoga before bed it makes a huge difference.

If you try a few of the solutions in the article and continue to have trouble sleeping definitely see a doctor about it.

Article by Betty A. Sanders

Headaches are one of the most common occurrences in the adult population in North America and probably in the world. That probably isn’t a surprise considering how much stress and overworked we are. Headaches have an enormous impact on society due to missed workdays and the loss of productivity when one is dealing with the pain, resulting in huge costs over time for any employer.

“Headache” is usually described as an aching or pain that occurs in one or more areas of the head, face, mouth, or neck. Headaches can have many causes, but serious causes of headaches are rare, however, anyone suffering with a pattern of headaches should pay particular caution that the pattern does not change or become more frequent. This could signal the possibility of a more serious issue. A headache that becomes worse over time, say in a period of 6 months or possibly less depending on the severity of symptoms, especially if most prominent in the morning or if accompanied by neurological symptoms would warrant a call to your physician.

A headache can be a primary disorder, as in migraine or cluster headaches. It may be a common symptom associated with head injury or many illnesses such as acute infection, brain tumor or abscess, eye disorders such as glaucoma, dental disease, and hypertension. Headaches can be chronic, recurrent, or occasional.

Perhaps you have heard of a “tension headache”. What exactly does that mean? Believe it or not, the most common type of headache is a tension headache. Tension headaches are the most common type of primary headache; as many as 90% of adults have had or will have tension headaches sometime in their lives. Up to 90% of all people who complain of chronic or frequent headaches suffer from a tension headache. This type is more common among women than men, but while perhaps they feel it at times, they are not life-threatening. Tension headaches are brought on due to tight muscles in your shoulders, neck, scalp and jaw. Tensions headaches can be brought on from working too much, not getting enough sleep, missing meals or improper eating habits, or from the use of alcohol.

Headaches can be triggered by chocolate, cheese, and monosodium glutamate (MSG). They can also occur if you have a cold, the flu, fever, or premenstrual syndrome, along with a host of other conditions.

Headaches are one of the most common and universal human ailments. They have been documented in ancient medical writings from Egypt, Greece, Rome, and other countries. They have even been mentioned in the Bible. There seems there is no “fast cure” or “permanent cure”, either for this very common nuisance that occurs are one time or another for every person, with some people unfortunately being forced to live with them every second of their lives.

If headache pain is a frequent problem for you, there are ways to help prevent them. Many headache sufferers have reported success with natural, homeopathic products, relaxation techniques, and the use of aromatherapy essential oils.

Aromatherapy may seem a little “out there” but think of how the human brain works with the olfactory senses, more commonly known as the sense of smell. It’s logical to trust that if a smell can touch off a headache, it may then also be quite effective in their prevention. There are specific aromas which are quite effective for calming nerves and reducing tension. The delicate scents of vanilla and lavender are calming to the mind and brain. They’re found in numerous bath products labeled for use in soothing and calming both tension and stress.

Peppermint oil also demonstrates potential in producing good results for preventing headache pain. Vicks Salve applied to the forehead was a tried-and-true method of addressing severe headaches for many people in years past and is still a good remedy to try for that stubborn, painful throbbing.

Medical acupuncture is undergoing a popularity surge for its ability to control various types of physical pain, including headaches. Scientific research has shown that it is a legitimate therapy for treating both headache and migraine pain. Dental pain and nausea have also been shown to respond favorably to acupuncture treatment. More research and medical studies are needed to prove this is the perfect treatment for headache pain.

Physical exercise is underestimated as it pertains to prevention of headaches. Headaches are frequently induced by tension and stress and therefore physical exercise is a terrific way to relieve those problems before the pain begins. Prior to starting any form of exercise, it is best to contact your doctor or medical professional to choose the right exercise program for you and your health situation.

Begin slowly on any exercise regimen if you do not already exercise regularly. Take a brisk walk around the block, spend several minutes on the treadmill, or do some simple stretching routines. You shouldn’t exercise to the point of exhaustion or pain. Always pay attention to what your body is telling you – it knows when it’s had enough and needs to rest.

Studies show that some headache patients who undergo chiropractic manipulation have had good results in preventing their headaches. Complications, although rare, can arise as a result of chiropractic manipulation and may include the possibility of stroke from the manipulation of the neck. To be safe, consult your doctor before undergoing chiropractic manipulation, especially if you have high risk factors for stroke.

Herbal and nutritional remedies such as vitamin B12 and magnesium are also quite effective in headache prevention for some people. Normally, results are not seen until a person has taken the supplements for at least three months.

Food and drinks which are high in caffeine should be avoided by anyone who experiences frequent headache pain. Switching to caffeine-free soda, coffee, or tea may diminish the frequency of headaches. Keeping a food and headache diary can be crucial in determining your personal headache triggers. This diary will help you identify specific food and drink triggers, as well as environmental and stress causes, so you can avoid those in order to help prevent recurrence of headache pain.

The prevention of headaches may prove to be easier than treating them once they have begun. Exercise at least three days a week, keep your diary, and watch your diet. Steer clear of foods which trigger headaches and take steps to help reduce the stress and tension in your life.

It is very difficult to identify as to which kind of headache a person is suffering from. The five kinds of headaches are sinus headache, tension headache, rebound tension, migraine headache or cluster headache. If one could identify what kind of headache he or she is going through then the right treatment could be prescribed.

In one of the study of 2004, eighty percent of the patients with the current history regarding doctor diagnosed or self described sinus headache were noted, however not even one signs of the sinus infection was seen, generally it matched to criteria for the migraine. And about 2/3rd of these victims expressed their dissatisfaction regarding the medications which were prescribed to them.

The most usual kind of headache is tension headache, here you feel a continuous pressure or ache around your head, particularly at the back and temples of the neck and head. But it is not as severe like the migraines headache, they aren’t normally accompanied by vomiting and nausea and they hardly prohibit anyone from doing their normal activities. Without a prescription medications, like acetaminophen (Tylenol), aspirin or ibuprofen are normally sufficient enough to treat your tension headaches, and the experts believe that this might have been caused due to the contraction of scalp muscles and neck and probably alteration in the brain chemicals.

The next kind of headache is cluster headache which affects men more frequent than women, is returning headache which occur in cycles or group. These headaches occur suddenly and are considered as incapacitating and serious pain and it occurs on 1 side of head and is frequently accompanied by nasal congestion and watery eye and might have running nose as well. When you suffer from this headache, you are frequently restless as well as are uncomfortable. As to why the cluster headache is caused is still not known.

There’s no cure, however treatments could decline the duration and frequency of the attacks.

The third kind is sinus headache. When the sinus turns to be inflamed, normally through the infection, then it could cause pain. It generally comes with the fever and if necessary, could be diagnosed with the help of CT scan or MRI scan. This type of headache which is caused because of sinus problem could be treated with the help of antibiotics and decongestants or antihistamines.

The fourth one is migraine headache. This arises because of neurological disorder which could run in your families. This is one of the worst headaches that anyone would have come across. Migraines could immobilize people for some days and also for weeks. In short, it means that the migraine patients undergo a non productivity period as for intense pain as well as sharp sensitivity to the light.

The last is rebound headache. Due to the over utilization of the painkillers because of headaches could paradoxically lead to the rebound headache. The culprits include without a prescription treatments such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen or aspirin.

We live in stressful times and many people unfortunately bear witness to this by suffering from headaches. Headaches are the result of a number of different factors. In fact, often times headaches are in indication that something else is taking place in the body. For example, an impacted tooth or a jaw infection can cause a headache. Anxiety, tension, and stress can be the source of a painful headaches. Sometimes an allergy or sinus pressure causes what is known as a sinus headache. Straining the eyes can also result in headaches; eye strain is very common in those who work with small print, computer screens, or finely detailed objects. People who work with loud noises also suffer from headaches. This category includes such people as construction workers and even elementary school teachers. Some headaches are called migraines, and though they are excruciatingly painful, they have no known cause.

The most common headache remedies are Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, and Aspirin. For frequent headache sufferers, the thought of taking daily medication may not be very appealing. If the headache results from an allergy or a sinus infection, treating the source of the infection will help prevent future headaches. Headaches caused by eyestrain may indicated the need for a visit to the eye doctor. In fact, if you wear glasses and are suffering from frequent headaches, it may be a sign that you need to have your eyes checked. You may need a stronger prescription. Just as your headache may indicate the necessity for a visit to the eye doctor, it may also be a warning that you need to visit the dentist. If you are having tooth trouble, you may have discovered the cause of your headache. For those whose work makes strong demands on the eyes, it is helpful to take frequent breaks from your work and to palm the eyes. This entails using the palm of the hands to gently massage the eye area while the eyes are closed. This can relieve some of the stress from the eyes. If your work mandates that you to sit in front of a computer screen, make sure to take breaks often and to get up and walk around.

You should seek medical assistance any time you have a persistent headache. Headaches should not be ignored. Headaches may be a symptom of an underlying, yet serious medical condition that needs immediate treatment. Aromatherapy can be very beneficial in treating many headaches. Aromatherapy is also a preferable alternative to regular aspirin use. Frequent aspirin use causes thinning of the blood and can lead to stomach irritation, as well as other dangerous side effects. A wonderful headache treatment can be found by creating massage oil using basil and rosemary essential oils. Add 5 drops of rosemary and 5 drops of basil to 1 ounce of carrier oil, such as Sweet Almond. Use this oil to massage the temples and across the forehead at the first signs of a headache.

Getting a migraine headache has become all-too-natural for people who live hectic, hurried lives in the city. It is no wonder that every urbanite’s cupboard or medicine cabinet is often stocked with pain relief medications. When the migraine headache comes back, we simply repeat the practice. While it seems harmless to take migraine headache pills for a day or two, overusing it can have unexpected and serious consequences.

Overusing pain relief medications can become a cycle. It can make migraine headaches return as soon as the effect of the medication wears off. Once the pain returns, the tendency is to take more medications until it becomes a worse cycle. Medication overuse headaches are also known as rebound headaches. Rebound headaches are caused by medication taken to relieve regular headaches. In the case of problem headaches, such medication can be a lifesaver. However, the overuse of certain pain relief medications can cause headaches to occur more often and become more severe. People should learn to understand this problem and develop ways to deal with it in order to take control of frequent headaches.

Rebound migraine headaches occur when pain relief medication is taken too frequently to relieve migraine headache pain. It’s not easy to diagnose rebound migraine headaches. Overuse is determined by asking patients if their migraine headaches assumed a new pattern or became more severe after taking medications excessively. More than three times a week is generally considered excessive medication. However, to make a sure diagnosis of rebound headache, the patient must be withdrawn from medication anywhere up to 6 times.

Breaking this cycle means discontinuing the use of the medication. Bear in mind that such withdrawal will actually heighten the headache for the first few weeks. Withdrawal may not be easy. It may take days, weeks, or even months of agonizing withdrawal symptoms, which include headaches and fatigue. Usually, It requires another medication, and sometimes, even hospitalization just to overcome the withdrawal process. The headaches will then gradually recede afterwards. Consult a physician before you revert to the use of medication.

According to Timothy R. Smith, the medical director of the Ryan Headache Center in St. Louis, many experts still don’t know exactly what causes rebound migraine headaches, though the regular overuse of pain relief medication can cause physiological changes. The use of too much pain relievers can lower a person’s pain threshold so that they begin to require more painkillers just to feel “normal” again.

Pain reliever overuse can actually lower the level of serotonin, a hormone that acts as a chemical messenger which transmits nerve signals between nerve cells and causes blood vessels to narrow. Changes in the serotonin levels in the brain can alter the mood as well as pain perception.

The problem with rebound migraine headaches is that they can be difficult to identify. People with rebound migraine headaches usually had chronic migraine headaches to begin with, which is precisely the reason why they started to take medication in the first place. It would be difficult for both the doctor and the patient to notice the shift from a migraine headache to a rebound migraine headache.

Symptoms, however, can vary from person to person. The nausea and sensitivity to light that are typically present with migraine headaches are usually absent in rebound migraine headaches, and the pain can felt in different parts of the head. Patients with rebound migraine headaches will usually complain of daily headaches with pain that escalate to a point where it’s interfering with normal lifestyle, causing anxiety and depression to the individual. According to experts, any pain relief medication is capable of causing rebound headaches when taken frequently and in more than enough dosage. Even over-the-counter medications that contain aspirin, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen can also cause rebound headaches. It is important to note that combining these medications with caffeine can cause a more serious problem.

You most likely know someone with migraine – about one in ten in America suffers from it, frequently in far more methods than one. As actively fascinated as researchers are within the field of migraine headache treatment method and management, a actual treat eludes them. And so, these 30 million Americans who see a medical doctor for their affliction, end up getting treatment which is experimental, additional or much less, and more usually of questionable value than not. People who are struck by some in the much more serious pains that lay them low a lot more than 10 days each month, typically regularly attempt distinct drug treatments one after one other, to discover some alleviation from your pain. As soon as they begin down this path, they typically also struggle using the incidental effects of this discomfort – slow wind, and gastric difficulty. Indeed, patients complain typically and bitterly concerning the uncertainty of it all, getting to experiment with a dozen drug treatments every time they’ve an attack.

Just at the time that migraine sufferers around the globe are actually giving up on any hope of a reasonable way to deal with existence, comes news of the current miracle migraine head ache treatment procedure – plastic material surgical procedures. There have been incredulous accounts of alleviation and disbelief by folks who have chosen to try this line of therapy, and hopes among the basic population are about the rise. The plastic material medical procedures process that has been named for migraine alleviation, is normally aimed at one particular of 3 trigger sites around the head; and it truly is set to appreciate an 80% achievement rate. What’s additional, a complete 50% of all people who have this type of treatment report a complete migraine cure.

The forehead lift is the plastic medical procedures process that finds the very best results in migraine head ache treatment. Right up until now, a forehead lift has usually helped with the vanity needs in persons: the surgical treatment pulls and holds up the skin up coming towards the hair line, to smooth out the wrinkles on the forehead. Nonetheless, a few many years ago, health professionals started to notice that some customers who came in for forehead lifts who had trouble with migraine, frequently raved far more concerning the mitigating effects on their headaches that the medical procedures had than the cosmetic results themselves. Right after having observed the migraine impact in this medical process in adequate sufferers, a plastic surgeon, Dr. Bahman Guyuron, recognized that there might be something to these claims his patients produced, so routine had they become. He organized and completed investigation into the purpose why migraines yielded to forehead lifts as well as they did.

Trigger things play an critical role in any migraine investigation. Investigations into this form of migraine headaches treatment started with an try at identifying essentially the most substantial bring about details close to the head . A trigger point is supposed to be the specific area inside brain where the head ache is stated to begin. As the understanding goes now, various kinds of migraine are brought about when nerves are pressured by the wrinkling and sagging on the muscles from the forehead. Almost numbing those nerves could frequently bring about long-term relief. Apart in the forehead surgical treatment, the application of Botox to paralyze the offending nerve cells has fantastic outcomes as well. Medical professionals in fact use the Botox application as being a test for whether a particular migraine patient would respond nicely to a forehead lift. This would make it an off label use for Botox, though.

Considering that this surgical procedure isn’t really entirely approved yet through the FDA, wellness care plans do not actually pay for this; that would make this surgery pretty pricey. Surgical procedures is not generally an option for those who suffer from migraines. But when it’s, folks will be willing to sell any possessions to get it.

Any irritation to the structure of the neck and head can lead to a person experiencing a headache. Furthermore, the sensation of pain can transmit it through associated nerves to other parts of the body such as a neck pain that can cause a person to suffer from a headache as well. No doubt, everybody is liable to have suffered from a headache at some point of time in their lives since it is indeed a very common illness.

”Fight Or Flight” Responses

The types of headaches are many and so too are the causes of headaches, and this is the reason why headaches come about so frequently and there are also instances of recurring headaches that are caused by many different factors. Perhaps the most common cause of headaches is stress which can cause a person to feel a ‘fight or flight’ feeling that usually is accompanied by shallow breathing as well as raised heart rate as well as high blood pressure. Even adrenaline amounts will shoot up and cause a person to experience a headache.

If you do not eat the proper food you will be more likely to suffer a headache as diet as well as sensitivity to food is another major cause of headache, especially the migraine headache. You may suffer from a headache because of variations in the blood sugar levels, or because of withdrawal of caffeine, or because of food additives.

Sometimes a dental abscess can be the cause of headache, especially following extraction when an infection may appear and there may be difficulty with your jaw joints that will cause local pain that is then transmitted to the face and head causing a headache. Even when your teeth are not properly aligned, you will still be at risk of getting a headache; so you need to get a dentist to look into this matter and find a proper treatment for it.

Hormones are what allow a person to experience pain, and sex hormones are believed to play an important role in causing a headache, especially in women before, or immediately after their menstrual period. If the sex hormone levels are low when menstruation is taking place, women may suffer a headache.

Persons with impaired vision will also be at risk of having a headache as this is a common cause of headache, especially when they need to squint, or strain their eye muscles in order to focus their eyes. Even glaucoma which is an eye disease can be a cause of headaches as they refer pain into the head’s structure.

You can also find that headaches come about due to a disorder in the ear, nose or throat and common causes of headaches include sinus headaches, labyrinthitis, infections and traumas. Even damage to a person’s nerves can be considered to be a cause of headaches.

A headache is a condition of pain in the head; sometimes neck or upper back pain may also be interpreted as a headache. It ranks amongst the most common local pain complaints. It has been found that monosodium glutamate can cause headaches or other symptoms in susceptible people. It is often added to Chinese foods, with wonton soup a frequent offender. However, it is also found in many processed meats and tenderizers. Headaches can be single or recurrent in nature, and localized to one or more areas of the head and face.

Types of headache

cluster headache

migraine headache

tension headache

sinus headache

rebound headache

vascular headache

sick headache

secondary headache

thunderclap headache

To cure a headache follow these steps

1. take yor hand and press it hardly on your head

2. take your other hand and press it hardly on a family’s or friend’s head

3. if u press hard enough (but not to hard) then your headache will be gone in about 2 in half min.

Many things can cause headaches such as being dehydrated, lack of food, stress, a pinch nerve. Avoid late sleeping if possible;spicy, sour, stale bakery foods and alcohole. Putting an ice pack on the back of my neck seems to help quickly.

For headache on the forehead or temples, stimulate a pressure point with finger or eraser of pencil. The point is on the wrist where pulse is taken, but just a little higher toward the elbow.

Relaxation exercises. These exercises can help take away tension and stress that cause headaches or make them worse.

Heat, such as hot water bottles, heating pads, or hot baths, to relax tense muscles. Be careful not to burn yourself.

Ice, such as an ice pack applied to the back or the neck or the temples.

Massage therapy and biofeedback, which can reduce muscle tension, especially in your neck and shoulder muscles. This muscle tension can cause headaches or make them worse.

Avoid exercises or activities that are non-aerobic such as weight-lifting, bending over working on stuff. Lack of blood flow to the head also triggers headaches. Rather do slow but steady aerobic exercise of work. If you have to bend over and work, sit down on the floor, or lay down rather than bending over.

Whether you are a man, woman or child if you are constantly suffering from headaches or migraines, it is important for you to learn the difference between the two. Understanding what makes a headache different from a migraine and visa versa is essential for knowing how to treat them individually. Headaches and migraines are different bodily conditions and therefore need to be treated differently and understood in order to do so.

A migraine is a headache which initiates your blood vessels to dilate and constrict. This then releases the pain throughout your head which can last anywhere from 4hours to 72 hours. You may experience anything from mild to severe pain but the length of the pain is what can easily identify it as a migraine versus a headache. Take a look at the list of symptoms below that can aid in identifying a migraine from a headache.

Sensitivity to light Blurred vision Abdominal pain Vomiting Pale complexion Loss of appetite Dizziness Fever Feeling warm and then cold

A simple headache is not capable of creating these symptoms throughout your body. If you can relate to any combination of these symptoms, you are not merely suffering from an everyday headache.

An everyday headache is often referred to as a tension headache. This type of headache produces tightness in the neck as well as the muscles in the scalp and fascia. These headaches are often caused by lack of sleep or stress. A mere lifestyle change is all that is required to eliminate these tension headaches from your life permanently.

On the other hand migraine headaches deal more with the chemicals within your body, cells and energy production. Changing your lifestyle is often not enough to eliminate migraines from your life, especially if they are as frequent as a few times a month. With many more symptoms associated with migraine headaches than tension headaches it is important to understand that aspirin is not enough to correct this health problem.

By comparing the effects of headaches and migraines you will see that a simple headache, although it does cause a great deal of discomfort does not disrupt your daily activities. On the other side of the spectrum, migraines can be quite debilitating the longer they last and more the severe they become.

If you find that you are experiencing either a headaches or migraines on a regular basis it is time to consult with your physician regarding treatments. Over the counter products may be enough to temporarily heal your headache but if they come and go more than 3-4 times per month than you need to find out why. Migraines on the other hand are more common to be experienced several times a month and more intense forms of treatment need to be considered. Many people today are leaning towards natural vitamins and minerals they more and more studies prove their abilities to heal migraines without side effects.
