Experiencing occasional headaches that are just too hard to handle? These headaches might be due to stress related reasons and are called stress headaches or tension headaches.
Stress headaches can be categorized into two; episodic basis and chronic basis where episodic basis refers to headaches that occur less than 15 days per month whereas chronic basis is when the headaches occur for more than 15 times per month or even daily. There are many stress headache symptoms to look out to as they may eventually cause adverse side effects.
Stress headaches, also called tension headaches, are extremely painful and can be quite annoying and frequent. In fact, it’s probably the most common type of headache among Americans. The type of pain associated with stress headaches are described as pulsing, dull, constant and aching that can occur on both sides of the head. As time passes on stress headaches seem to get worse and can rapidly turn into an extremely painful headache. Stress headaches can be easily diagnosed by doctors as the symptoms are very familiar but in a few cases further test and scans may be necessary. Many times, a blood analysis will be needed to make a proper diagnosis.
The best treatment for stress headaches tends to be over the counter pain medication. However, you need to be aware of all side and long-term effects and read the label carefully, particularly if you are taking other medication. Over the counter medication does not have severe side effects but they can interfere with other medication. Headache medicine can make you drowsy so you should not be driving if this affects you. You need to be aware of all interactions your headache medicine will have with other medication and with your daily life.

As you age, the stress level also increases due to a variety of situations you face. If you are facing such situations for the first time in life, naturally the intensity of the stress is more. When you become more experienced to handle such situations, gradually the stress level decreases.
You, as a youngster, start smoking for fun initially. Fun or no fun, nicotine is such a hard addiction, that it won’t spare anyone. Soon your habit dominates you. You can’t give up smoking. The guilty feeling haunts you because you know the disadvantages of smoking. You know its capabilities to cause serious damages to important parts of your body like heart and liver. You are warned from all sides against your smoking habit but you are helpless. You are the slave of nicotine and that causes you stress. This type of stress could be the cause of severe headache. Your personality is tossed in between these situations. For most smokers, the unpleasant game of musical chair between stress, headache and smoking continues.

In some cases, the common stress headache can become quite uncomfortable. It is important that these cases be resolved as quickly as possible to avoid serious discomfort. The first step in treatment is knowing the source of the issue.
Experts say that there are many different types of headache that have different causes. The most common triggers for headaches are usually lifestyle-related that include a person’s poor diet, periodic muscle tensions, and lack of regular physical activity or exercise.
Other serious causes may include development of brain tumors and other neurologically-related disorders. But, among these factors that trigger the problem, one factor is considered as the hardest to manage- varying stress levels.
