Question by clarinet123: How do you know when it’s the end of your tension headache?
For those of you who get tension headaches, can you please help! I can’t take this anymore! The headache isnt painful, and I’m very thankful for it but it is uncomfortable after a while! I’m not talking about normal headaches, I’m talking about a TENSION headache! Where everything in your head feels tight (it’s kind of hard to explain) but anyways, How do I know when it’s almost the end? I’ve had it for almost a week and a half and I’m just ready for it to be over! Also, if anyone knows any helpful relief tips please help! I’m 17 years old and just graduated from high school, I don’t want to be celebrating like this! Thanks in advance!

Also, I can’t afford to go to the doctor so if it doesnt need to be checked by the doctor then I want to keep it that way! But if you all think a trip to the doctor is needed then I’ll go but I’m sure it’s a tension headache! I awaken with it, my head feels tight, it kind of feels better in the shower, and it’s at it’s worse when I’m thinking about it! But it is kind of hard not to think about it!

Question by Sloanfesta: Is there such a thing as chronic tension headache?
I have constant tension headache since I was a teenager. I am 34 now. There’s no serious pain, but it feels like a tight band is wrap around my head. I also feel like there is compression on the surface of my brain. It’s there all the time.

I’ve been to the doctor. Had an MRI. Came out normal. Was given muscle relaxants and other sedatives. Nothing worked.

I try researching this condition and there is no such condition. Even the headache medications are meant for temporary relief when a headache episode comes on. But there doesn’t seem to be a type of tension headache that is constant and chronic like mine.

I remember 9 years ago, for one day the headache subsided (for some strange reason) and for that one day, it felt like heaven.

It seems I have to learn to live with this. Has anyone heard of such a condition?

Best answer:

Answer by Olivia
ok finally somebody who is going through the same thing me and my mother are going through. my mother has had these headaches for about 3 yrs now and mine have been for the past year and a half. well all of my MRI’s came out normal. my nerve tests came out normal. They do not know what is causing either of our migranes and not only that, my mother had surgery back in may for them. they burned her occipital nerve in her head (thats the pain nerve) and that surgery failed. so i do believe that you can get chronic tension headaches. i am a firm believer of them even though the doctors may disagree

Everyone knows what it is like to experience a headache because approximately 90% of Americans suffer from this condition each year. Tension headaches are the most common type, forcing millions of people to miss work, activities and family time. This painful condition affects both men and women, and can often occur frequently.

The modern world is hectic and the overwhelming demands of life manifest themselves as stress in the body. Stress is believed to be the number one factor for causing tension headaches. Reduction in stress is reported to help reduce the occurrences, and many treatments are available to help manage pain and discomfort found with headaches. Of the medical options that can be found for pain management, the prescription drug Fioricet has shown great results.

Fioricet is a combination of three drugs. It consists of butalbital, acetaminophen and caffeine. These three drugs form a winning combination in providing headache relief. Their special characteristics compliment each other, allowing them to work together to provide quick and effective relief.

Butalbital is a sedative found in Fioricet that helps in relaxation. Muscle tension greatly contributes to tension headaches, and the relaxing properties of butalbital help relax muscle contractions.

Acetaminophen is a well known pain reliever and fever reducer. It relieves pain by increasing the pain threshold in the person taking the medicine. It is one of the most commonly used pain relievers in the world.

The third component of Fioricet is caffeine. Caffeine relaxes muscle contractions in blood vessels, allowing for improvement in blood flow. This helps the other drugs to move into the system faster.

Caffeine and acetaminophen are two drugs that most people are pretty familiar with. The sedative, butalbital, is a barbiturate and the reason that Fioricet is a prescription drug. Fioricet has proven effective in the relief of tension headaches, but it should be taken seriously. The sedative properties can cause drowsiness, and special care should be taken if operating motor vehicles while taking Fioricet. Like with all medications, directions should be followed and it should only be used as intended.

When used properly, Fioricet has shown to alleviate the pain and discomfort felt with tension headaches. The combination of butalbital, acetaminophen and caffeine provides quick and effective relief. Headaches can be debilitating and cause some people to be bedridden for the duration, but with the help of Fioricet, many people are able to prevent these incapacitating events and find relief.

Article by Gail Leino

Migraine headache and associated headaches such as muscle contraction and chronic tension headache are all potentially relieved with the use of Botox. It was originally used for treatment of crossed eyes and twisted necks. Most people have heard of it’s use for reducing wrinkles in the face and around the eyes. Many patients who received it for cosmetic purposes found a significacnt relief in headache pain. A number of research studies have been done that have shown its effectiveness for headache relief. Over 30 million people in the U.S. suffer from chronic disability of chronic headaches.

Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox) is a new therapeutic option for the preventive treatment of migraine and chronic tension type headache. It offers several advantages over current drug therapy. Injections are given every three to four months. When botox works, it eliminates or reduces the the need for daily medications or acute medicines for severe attacks. There are few side effects from the injections, except for minimal discomfort at the time of injection. Drooping of the eyelid is an occasional side effect. On rare occasions patients get aching in injected muscles, usually for just a couple days. Partial paralyzes of muscles is botox’s mechanism of action. The use of botox has often shown a reduction in pain that is more significant than it’s action on the muscles themselves. It is believed that small fibers containing pain-producing chemicals such as Substance P are affected by Botulinum toxin. Botox is more than likey to work in ways that have not been discovered yet.

Botox is usually injected in the muscles surrounding the eyes and forehead. Usually the muscles between the eyebrows and above the eyes are injected in each of 4-6 different injections. Thereafter, a series of three injections are made around the outside of the eye on the side. Then injections are made into the temporal region and sometimes the jaw where the masseter muscle is located. Patients who experience frontal pain with their headaches receive these types of injections. For those patients that have headaches involving the entire head, injections may be given down the back of the neck and down onto the shoulders. There is great potential in the use of botox for treatment of migraine headaches. It has about an 87% success rate with chronic muscle tension type headaches. It also has been found to be ffective in some patients who are not responding to any type of migraine preventive therapy. Though it has great potential, Botox is not a cure all. It is however, one more weapon to use in the headache relief battle.

Do you suffer from tension headaches? A hot tub may be your answer for relief. Hydrotherapy treatments can increase circulation to the muscles of the neck and head, relaxing them. Moist heat can decrease muscle spasm and hydrotherapy jets can soothe aching muscles.

Therapy Technique #1 – Get into the hot tub, turn the jets on as high as you can stand them. Place a cold, damp towel on the part of your head that’s most affected by the pain. If after five minutes the cold towel isn’t helping, alternate a cold and warm towel periodically to release muscle tension.

Therapy Technique #2 – Relax in the hot tub for 15-minutes, ensuring a good massage. The best spas for these types of headaches will have neck jets. No neck jets? Get as much of you back into the water pressure as possible, keeping the massage power as high as you can stand it. After 15-minutes of warm massage, leave the spa and place an ice pack on the affected area for 5-10 minutes. Notes to Remember:

1) Be sure to remember to turn off the stereo system. Loud noises may exacerbate your headache.

2) Still have pain after these therapy techniques? Get a volunteer to give you a back massage before and after the techniques for additional headache stopping power.

3) Thinking of buying a spa? Keep hydrotherapy your number one motivator. Be sure to get a powerful hot tub that meets your needs of a truly effective massage. Don’t let fancy options like water features and lighting sway you away from your main purpose – healing hydrotherapy.

Most people who regularly suffer from tension headaches or migraines have tried numerous over-the-counter medications with little or no luck. They may have a collection of pain medications in their bathroom cabinet that demonstrate their many attempts to relieve the pain associated with headaches. Fortunately, fioricet provides another option that often works when other medications fail to eliminate these symptoms.

If you suffer from migraine headaches, you can probably retell many of the instances when these headaches disrupted your life. Chronic headaches can come on unexpectedly and at the most inconvenient times. While no time is a good time to suffer from a headache, important appointments both for work and pleasure are often missed by migraine and tension headache sufferers.

Migraines affect 11 percent of the population while tension headaches are experienced by 74 percent of the population. It is no wonder why there are so many headache relief medications on the market. Fioricet is different from other medications in that it combines three essential ingredients that work in harmony to alleviate pain in an effective manner. The combination of acetaminophen, the barbiturate butalbital, and caffeine create a powerful medication that often works when other meds do not.

The ingredient acetaminophen is used in many headache relief medications as a way to elevate the body’s pain threshold. Its effect is significantly augmented when combined with butalbital and caffeine. The barbiturate butalbital relaxes the muscle contractions associated with headaches. Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor. Headaches cause the blood vessels to swell. Caffeine works to bring them back to their normal size and to speed up the effectiveness of this medication.

If you decide that you’d like to try Fioricet, you will need to get a prescription from a doctor. The Internet has made receiving prescriptions easier than ever. There are doctors that work for online pharmacies that will not only be able to give you a prescription, but will be able to answer any questions you have about the medication. If you are pregnant, nursing, or have any medical conditions, it is important to share this information with a doctor who will then determine if the medication is a safe option.

Once you receive the Fioricet medication, be sure to follow instructions carefully. If you feel that your dosage needs to be readjusted, discuss this with your doctor. It is advised not to exceed six tablets a day.

More than 28 million people suffer from migraine headaches in the United States alone. This is why there are so many headache relief medications on the market. One visit to a pharmacy in search of headache relief can be an overwhelming experience. Most chronic headache sufferers have tried countless meds without significant relief. Fioricet is a medication that offers a unique combination of ingredients. Every year, a growing number of people discover the benefits of this medication and can finally live their lives free from the pain associated with migraines or tension headaches.

Fioricet includes the three ingredients butalbital, acetaminophen, and caffeine. These three ingredients work together to bring quick and effective relief. The onset of a headache begins when the nerves around the body’s blood vessels become aggravated as blood flow increases. Caffeine effectually constricts the blood vessels ultimately bringing them back down to their normal size. Caffeine also works to speed up the effects of the medication. Butalbital is a barbiturate that relaxes the muscles in the body and creates an overall sense of relaxation. Acetaminophen is found in most headache medications, but its much more effective when used in conjunction with caffeine and butalbital. It increases the pain threshold of the body.

Fioricet can easily be obtained through reputable online pharmacies. Such pharmacies have doctors on board who can give out prescriptions and answer any questions that you may have about the medication. Once you have the medication in hand, you will see that it comes in an easy to take tablet form. While Fioricet is safe to take, it tends to cause drowsiness. After taking the recommended dosage, it is important not to operate heavy machinery or drive. Follow the instructions carefully and you are likely to find quick pain relief.

In conjunction with taking medication, remember that your lifestyle can affect the onset of headaches. Stress is a major factor. Consider taking up yoga, going for a daily walk, or relaxing with a good book in order to slow your body and mind down from the daily stresses that most of us experience. Eat a well-balanced diet and drink plenty of water. Try cutting down on alcohol and junk foods. While there is no know cure for migraines, with the right medication and a healthy lifestyle, you may find more relief than you’ve ever experienced before.

Natural Headache Relief Tips

Make lifestyle choices that promote good health may reduce the frequency and severity of your tension-type headaches.• Eat healthy foods. Don’t skip meals, especially breakfast, and stay hydrated with plenty of water daily.• Exercise regularly. During physical activity, your body releases certain chemicals that block pain signals to your brain. Walking, nature Hiking, Swimming and cycling are often good choices. But it’s important to start slowly. Exercising too vigorously can trigger some types of headaches.• Get enough sleep. Wake up and go to bed at the same time every day — even on weekends. Rather than looking for ways to squeeze more activities or chores into the day, find a way to leave some things out.Manage your time wisely. Delegate what you can, and break large projects into manageable chunks.Simplify Your Life. You can’t take it with you.Take a break. If you feel overwhelmed, a few slow stretches or a quick walk may renew your energy for the task at hand.Adjust your attitude. Stay positive. If you find yourself thinking, “This can’t be done,” switch gears. Think instead, “This will be tough. But I can make it work.”Let go. Don’t worry about things you can’t control.

One of the easiest way to soothe a headache and we can do it everywhere is through massage. Massage is the practice of applying pressure or vibration to the soft tissues of the body, to heal injury, relieve psychological stress, manage pain, improve circulation and relieve tension. When we suffer from headache, we can help ourselves with self-massage. Simple and everybody can do it, either at work or home. Here are four easy ways in massage to heal our headache. 1. Eyes Area Massage — Close your eyes. Place your middle fingers to your eyes that are above cheekbones. Massage that area gently but firmly in circular motion for 1 minute,2. Eyes to Nose Massage Using thumb go along the underside of eyebrows (along the bone on top of eye socket). Feel where this bone meets the bridge of your nose and eyes and find a point where there is a small indentation. Very gentle pressure, press your thumbs into the points. You can do it four times by holding and press that area for 10 seconds in each press.3. Neck Massage — Massage a point where you can feel it by moving the middle fingers of your hands to the back of your head and feel the base of your skull. Specially, at the tops of your neck that meets the base of your skull. Massage for a minutes using finger tips gentle in circular movement.

4. Scalp Massage Let your palms of your hands massage your scalp on the top of your skull for a minute gently.

Once you have done all those massages, start taking a deep breath. Lift your shoulders towards your ears for five to 10 seconds to relief remaining pain, and then let them drop back down into their natural position.

You are going to feel better when you can do that for a couple of times. Your massage will relief your headache and your head will feel less weighty.I Hope These Natural Headache Relief Tips Help.Faith, Harmony, Hope, Happiness & Health.

Over-the-counter, or (OTC) medications may relieve pinched nerve pain and headaches, but do they fix the root of the problem? Though pain-relieving medication may temporarily lessen discomfort associated with headache and pinched nerve neck pain, potential risks from OTC medication can range from mild to in some cases, severe side effects. “Rates of overdose deaths involving prescription drugs increased rapidly in the United States during 1999—2006″ (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 6.18.10). Other than potential side effects, pills and pain relievers may only be a temporary fix for headache pain, allowing the problem to worsen over time. If you heard your fire alarm go off, would you investigate the problem and put out the fire, or take out the batteries in the fire alarm?

Many medications prescribed for headaches have side effects, including drowsiness, hair loss, constipation, dizziness, erectile dysfunction, confusion and weight gain. While you may tolerate these side-effects, what is going wrong to cause the side-effects? Additional side effects may include nausea, fluid retention, numbness and/or tingling in extremities, sensitivity to cold/heat, throat and mouth irritation, gastro-intestinal bleeding and death. Consider headache chiropractic care as an alternative.

Headaches and Chiropractic Care: Tension Headache Relief
If you are in pain, your life revolves around your headaches, or have achieved limited success with prescription headache medication or other medical treatments, take control and seek headache chiropractic care as a solution. The most likely cause of tension headaches are the contraction of the muscle at the base of the skull. When the muscle becomes stressed, they can spasm and cause pain, often referring headache pain above the eyes. Muscles across your shoulders can cause headaches in the temples or angle of the jaw. Tension also occurs because of physical and emotional stress on the body. Tension headaches are the most common type of headache (also known as stress headaches). Many patients will describe the headache as a diffuse mild to moderate pain that feels like tight band wrapped around their head. These headaches may last 30 minutes to several days. These headaches begin gradually and usually occur in the middle of the day. Causes of tension headaches may be due to inadequate rest, poor posture, stress, anxiety, inactivity, excessive activity or a combination. Chiropractic manipulation is effective in the treatment of headaches and many patients enjoy positive results within a few treatments.

In many cases, vertebrae realignment, along with motion and mechanical improvements from adjustments is incorporated with massage and heat treatments for a relaxing visit.

Headaches Chiropractic Care: Case Study
In a group study of approximately 130 migraine patients (individuals reporting at least one chronic migraine a month) were divided into two groups. The first group received chiropractic adjustments at specific vertebral locations, determined by the practitioner. The second group, the control, did not receive treatment, or received ineffective treatment (electrical stimulation with no current). The migraine subjects who received chiropractic care reported migraine relief with decreased duration and frequency, and less medication use for the two months following treatment.

Another example from “a report released in 2001 by researchers at the Duke University Evidence-Based Practice Center in Durham, NC, found that spinal manipulation resulted in almost immediate improvement for those headaches that originate in the neck, and had significantly fewer side effects and longer-lasting relief of tension-type headache than a commonly prescribed medication” (American Chiropractic Association).

If you have had limited success with over-the-counter medications, try addressing your tension headache or migraine pain from another angle. Learn more about headaches and chiropractic care—schedule an appointment with a chiropractor or specialist to learn more about your options. Although 100% of headaches are not solved by headache chiropractic care, this treatment is effective for most headache sufferers. Overall, chiropractic care has an overwhelmingly large success rate regarding the treatment of headaches because most headaches are nerve-related. Many individuals have successfully found headache relief through safe, headache chiropractic care.

Take care of your body and find out if a chiropractor can help ease your migraines. Chiropractic care is also very relaxing and can reduce future injuries and reduce stress.

A guy is suffering from severe headaches for years with no relief. After trying all the usual cures he’s referred to a headache specialist by his family doctor. The doctor asks him what his symptoms are and he replies, “I get these blinding headaches; kind of like a knife across my scalp and…’’
He is interrupted by the doctor. “And a heavy throbbing right behind the left ear?”

“Yes! Exactly! How did you know?”

“Well I am the world’s greatest headache specialist, you know. But I myself suffered from that same type of headache for many years. It is caused by a tension in the scalp muscles. This is how I cured it: Every day I would give my wife oral sex. When she came she would squeeze her legs together with all her strength and the pressure would relieve the tension in my head. Try that every day for two weeks and come back and let me know how it goes”.

Two weeks go by and the man is back. “Well, how do you feel?” the doctor asked.

“Doc, I’m a new man! I feel great! I haven’t had a headache since I started this treatment! I can’t thank you enough. And by the way, you have a lovely home.”

It’s undeniable that headaches are generally based on physical and emotional stress. Other than the stress, there are some other factors which are secondary. It’s somewhat easy to relieve your headache if you take special care and start relief measures instantly on experiencing symptoms. Here are the most common ways to relieve your headache following the symptoms.

Be free from stress: You should know first what causes your headache before you try to relieve the same from you. If you think well, you can understand that you have physical and emotional stress which can be the prime source of migraine headache trigger. Drugs do not usually relieve stress, so you strive to find out how to cure a headache. You can successfully relieve your stress by taking warm baths and performing deep breath exercises. You can also make yourself engaged in something you like to do and have sufficient time out. You can reduce stress with muscle massage, attending to melodious songs or soothing music. You can even have relaxed walking in open air.

Have good sleep: Indeed, getting too little or too much sleep cannot help you. You should neither be a moron nor a chump in sleeping habit. When you are fatigue or exhausted, you get more chance to have migraine. To reduce migraine symptoms, basically you should have a good sleep which can be achieved by routine practice.

Have balanced diet: If you are particular in eating junk foods, your health may be affected. Some foods with harmful ingredients can tilt your normal digestive system. It is in your hands that you identify which foods cause headache symptoms and avoid them in your dish. Probably the foods or ingredients which give problems are processed meat, processed cheese, citrus fruits, caffeine, red wine, chilly Mazola snacks, and monosodium glutamate. You should make sure you are taking proper meal with all nutrients that your body requires.

Breath in free air: Don’t keep all the doors closed when you are at home or at office. Fumes and vapors can make you suffocating with bad odor and dense smoke causing tension. So, take care that you are having proper ventilation for free air to avoid the risks.

Meditate: Meditation is the best option to help relieve your headache symptoms. When you sit calmly and start meditating, you can feel completely relaxed. Spend just 5 minutes and have deep breaths for thinking about NOTHING. Can’t you do this? Try it to evacuate your thoughts and feel ‘headache relief’ at once.

Be limited to alcohol: Consuming alcohol is not affecting much if it is within limits. When it exceeds the limit of your body condition, the problem is created. Also, take care to drink by sips with fruits or vegetable juice mix or non-alcoholic sauce, and avoid red wine with tyramine content.

Preventive care: You know ‘prevention’ is always better than ‘cure’. You will be safe if you have annual check up for any suspected symptoms of migraine and get rid of your headache symptoms before troubled. You should take preventive medications for headache.

To relieve your headache with early symptoms, you must be an expert with more related information on chances for brain tumor and what causes headache symptoms for you.

What triggers your headache? If your headache stems from insufficient sleep, you just need to catch a good night’s sleep once you get back home today. If your insufficient consumption of water leads to headache, you just need to make sure you ingest plenty of water from today onwards to cope with the scorching weather. But what if you don’t get enough oxygen for your brain to “breathe”, what should you do?

This type of headache is often caused more by the office environment you’re working in than anything else. It makes you lose concentration and thus, productivity. But wait, before you reach for that painkiller – aspirin or ibuprofen, give these 5 tips a shot. They should help reduce, if not eliminate your headache completely.

Headache Relief Tip 1 – Fresh Air Alleviates Headache

Most office buildings are enclosed and air-conditioned where you don’t get good supply of fresh air. To make matter worse, you can easily breathe in harmful chemicals released from the air-conditioning system, air fresheners, insecticides, pesticides and the pollutants already existing in the building. No wonder you get such an intense headache.

What you can do is open the office windows (if possible) near to where you sit at some intervals to allow fresh air to gush in. This could regulate the air quality in your working environment and help you and your colleagues breathe better and reduce headache problem.

Alternatively, you can leave your office for a short breather. If possible, suggest to your company to install air purifiers and ensure regular cleaning and servicing of the air-conditioning system in the offices.

Headache Relief Tip 2 – Relieve Your Eyes to Reduce Headache

Did you know that overstraining your eyes can also induce headache? That’s because when you strain your eyes, the muscles around the eyes may get cramps which will in turn stress the optic nerves connecting to your brain.

You should try to turn away from your computer screen or documents after every 30 minutes to give your eyes a break. For better results, look into a distance from a high place for 5 minutes to let your eyes take some breather. This should help to reduce your headache. However, if the problem persists, it’s probably high time for you to get a new pair of glasses.

Headache Relief Tip 3 – Mind Your Sitting Position

How do you sit at your office desk? If you bend your back and wrists while typing the keyboard, or you grip the phone between your shoulder and ear to talk on the phone while your hands are still on the keyboard, over time your blood may not flow well to your brain and thus trigger headache. That’s because you’re straining your muscles for a prolonged period.

Now, keep your sitting posture correct by always keeping your head aligned with the spine when you sit, and your wrists straight and aligned with the forearms when you’re typing. Make good use of your chair’s ergonomic design which provides good support for your back to avoid slouching.

Headache Relief Tip 4 – Stress is the Killer

Don’t you realize that most of the time when stress hits you, headache comes along? I know, you can’t avoid stress completely in a working environment, but you definitely can do something to “spread out” your stress in order to reduce headache, such as stopping your work for a minute and crack some jokes with your fellow colleagues to relieve tension, or enjoy a 10-min tea break at the pantry sipping your favorite coffee or tea. Sometimes, a little distraction can benefit your health.

Headache Relief Tip 5 – DIY Acupoint Massaging

Rest your hands on top of your head at each side and spread your fingers. Using your fingertips, knock lightly from the top and to the sides, for at least 10 times on each area. When you reach the sides of your head, slowly massage the areas with your fingers to ease the pressure. Do this massaging for at least 10 minutes or till you feel relaxed. This is actually a way to massage the acupoints on your head to help reduce headache.

Those that suffer from a constant barrage of headaches (the tension headache being the most common form of headache), as well as those that suffer from the less common migraine headache (which can be very debilitating) know all to well how much of a negative impact the headache pain can have on your quality of life.

What Causes Headaches

The medical establishment believes that headaches are caused by the inflammation of the blood vessels that lie on the brain which leads to a painful pulsation of the blood vessels. The pain can also be accompanied by tightness or pressure around the head and neck.

Though the causes of headaches is not well understood what is understood is that headaches do not occur in a vacuum, but are a result of certain triggers. These triggers bring on the headache and depending on your state of being the severity of a headache can be mild or quite severe.

Some of the most common headache triggers are sensitivity to certain foods, that contain caffeine, dairy products, chocolate, food preservatives… There are also many household products in common use that can trigger a headache or migraine episode. One of the biggest headache triggers though is plain old stress; and when our bodies reach a certain stress level a headache takes shape.

Now stress manifest itself in many different forms. As an example let’s say you work at a computer which is not uncommon for many people in our modern technological society. If you are not setting correctly at your computer or your computer workstation is not ergonomically set up after several hours of working in a stressful position due to poor posture, eyestrain or poor keyboard placement a headache can result.

Often we don’t consider this since it’s something we do everyday, but if you look back and analyze just how many headaches your getting due to how you work or on what you eat you can begin to track what is triggering your headaches or migraines.

Other things that can effect you getting headaches are poor lighting conditions, lack of proper oxygen intake, for instance I once worked in the service department of a auto-dealership and when a mechanic failed to properly vent the exhaust from a car he was working on I would get a massive splitting headache that would just lay me out. Needless to say it got to point in which I just had to quit the job, because carbon monoxide was my trigger.

Other triggers that can bring on a headache and migraine are lack of eating. How many times have you put off eating something because you just wanted to finish what you were doing or just get that all important job done and found yourself after a hard days work with a headache as your reward.

Do you over medicate? Some time we over due it with over-the-counter medications and this can be bad for you sometimes very bad. In certain situations is known that over medicating can lead to the occurrence of headaches.

Also it has been noted by medical professional that lack of physical fitness is itself a cause for getting more headaches than the general population may get. So the better your physical conditioning the less headaches your bound to get if your headaches or migraines are not of a result an underlying disease.

Headache Pain Relief

So the question your probably asking is how due I get headache pain relief when I get a headache. Though this is an important and vital question what you should be asking is what I can due to prevent in getting a headache or migraine in the first place. From the above discussion you should:

Determine if your headaches or migraines are being caused by foods your are eating.

Chemicals that you may be exposed to at home and at work.

If working for long hours, are you working comfortably. Are breaking up that rigid routine.

Consider if your working on optimum conditions or poor conditions.

Are you exercising to be as fit as you possible can.

Are you minimizing the stress you have in your daily routine as much as possible

Are you eating a well balanced meal.

Are you resting sufficiently – As lack of sleep is also a headache or migraine trigger.

Now once you get a headache theirs very little you can do to get rid except take other-counter-medications like aspirin, ibuprofen… or take one of several herbal formulations such as Henna, Cinnamon, Marjoram or Rosemary that are available for such things.

The drawback here is that you if you don’t have pain relievers available your out of luck, while access to herbal remedies need to be prepared and applied properly for them to be beneficial.

You can also try using acupressure, of course this requires that you learn how to acupressure and how and when to apply such techniques.

You can try to relax, take a break from what your doing for a while. You can try neck and temple message. If possible take a few minutes in a relaxed position with your eyes closed resting your head comfortably on a pillow.

The best way to deal with headaches is to think pro-actively and examine your lifestyle. But if you do get a headache and want to get rid of it fast this 30 Second Headache Pain Relief Technique may work for you.

Last night, and all day today, I have had these strange headaches. The only possible cause is eating, because the headaches were after dinner, and breakfast/lunch today. They were all tension-type headaches, they start in the back of my neck and move forward to the front of the forehead. For dinner last night I had fettucine Alfredo and zucchini, breakfast was a small bowl of cereal with milk, and lunch was a typical Japanese meal, miso soup, gyoza, and salmon rolls. Does anyone know the cause of this and what I can do to relieve it? I only get the headaches for two hours after eating, and when I drink green tea there is temporary relief. Pressing between my thumb and pointer finger only worked for a little bit. Please help, this is seriously interfering with my focus.

Im 20 and I was diagnosed with both fibromyalgia and ADD in junior high. I can’t afford to see a doctor regularly and am not abig fan of taking medications without it being necessary.

Most of day-to-day pain is in my neck and upper back (although certain activities can make the pain worse in other places) and it gives me frequent headaches. Sitting and studying is often painful, but the addition of meds for my ADD makes it worse.

What are, or where can I find, some stretching and relaxation techniques that will help relieve some of this tension so that I can study and/or help promote focus?

I’m not opposed to supplements or OTC meds, although most otc meds dont really help, but as I mentioned I can’t afford to see someone reularly in order to get a prescription pain medication.

Thanks

Chiropractic treatment is another way, and it is natural and completely drug-free. Many people report their headaches improve immediately, especially if it is stemming from the neck area of the spine. During a spinal manipulation, the headache can be relieved immediately, but follow up treatments are necessary.

Types of Headaches

Headaches normally fall into three categories. These include the Cluster Headache, Migraines, and Tension headaches. A cluster headache is very painful, can last for months at a time, and then may stop completely; sufferer’s lives are greatly hindered by these headaches. Symptoms include unbearable pain around the eyes, face, neck, shoulders, and head. These are often one-sided headaches, stuffy nose, and swelling on the affected side of the face.

Migraines on the other hand are chronic headaches that can last for several hours to days. The sufferer of migraines seeks out quiet and dark areas to help reduce some of the pain. Symptoms include throbbing pain, the pain worsens with any kind of activity, interferes with work, sensitivity to sound and light, and causes nausea or vomiting.

Tension headaches are the most common form of headaches and can cause moderate to severe pain. Many of these headaches stem from muscle contractions in and about the neck and shoulders.

Chiropractic and Headache Relief

All of the various types of headaches can be helped through chiropractic treatments. Even though suffering from daily headaches often find relief with chiropractic treatments. If you suffer from chronic headaches, you owe it to yourself to try the services of a chiropractor in order to find a natural treatment route. Most chiropractors today give you various stretching exercises to do when you are at home or work to help prevent the onset of a headache. Even those that have been skeptical that spinal manipulation coupled with trigger point therapy could relieve their headaches are finding relief.

When you make an appointment at your local chiropractor’s office, you can expect your first visit to take longer because the doctor will need to take several x-rays and gather your patient history and ask about your symptoms in detail. He or she than constructs a treatment plan, which requires several visits in order to receive the treatments. For those suffering from several chronic headaches, you can expect your chiropractic doctor will want to see you more in the beginning. As you find the needed relief, the treatments taper off and are less, frequent. If the patient responds well to the lesser treatment course, then the chiropractor continues on this path. However, if the pain returns, then the treatments are bumped up so that they patient can receive more treatments.

The beauty of chiropractic treatment is there are no side-effects and the spine can be manipulated as much as the doctor sees fit in order to provide the needed pain relief.

I’m prescribed to 50 mg Tramadol pills to take 1 or 2 when needed because I get horrible tension headaches almost every day. They help my pain very much and the doctor is hesitant to prescribe me other types of pain killers since I’m a teenager who smokes weed, though I would never sell or misuse my prescription drugs because I actually really need them for my pain. The only problem with the Tramadol is that it usually makes me feel pretty nauseous. I’ve tried eating before and while taking the pills but then I just threw up everything I ate later.
I love the pain relief of these pills but this nausea is horrible! I haven’t been able to keep much down lately due to these pills. Does anyone have any ideas on how to help this? Or is anyone who’s taking Tramadol found a good way to stop the nausea?

Please don’t say eating/drinking stuff with ginger, that doesn’t really help me. Thanks and 10 points to whoever helps the most!

People with Tinnitus from Loud Music or noise. Does the pitch of your tinnitus change when you bite your teeth down, does it change when you listen to music get louder, Or does it stay the same exact tone no matter what is going on.

I belive I have TMJ tinnitus But I havent been to a doctor yet, im trying to find out if this research on the internet is true, or if I have a different disorder..

Temporo-Mandibular Joint (TMJ) syndrome:
This jaw disorder may cause tinnitus and is characterized by many
symptoms, including headaches, earaches, tenderness of the jaw
muscles, dull facial pain, jaw noises, the jaw locking open, and pain
while chewing.
The Sternocleidomastoideus muscle connects on your sternum
by the collar bone on both sides and goes back to the back
of the ear. It’s about 6-10 inches long and when it gets
tight, it can pull on the TMJ area thereby creating a pull
on the muscles and ligaments around the inner ear area.
Almost certainly the final “pull” is the sphenomandibular
ligament which connects the ear drum and TMJ. An osteopath
can work with this. Xanax or other benzo’s can provide
tension relief as well. The masseter and temporalis muscles
(those in front of the ear and above the ear can cause the
same TMJ/tinnitus problems. If a person wants to know if
their tinnitus is connected to their TMJ in some way, have
them 1) clench their teeth- does it change the tinnitus? 2)
push in hard on the jaw with your palm. Does the tinnitus
change? (Get louder/softer, pitch or tone change) 3) Push in
on the forehead with your hand hard. Resist with the head.
Any changes? In about half the people I talk to, they find a
TMJ correlation they never even dreamed of…

Is this research True, or is my tinnitus from loud music?
This is what is up, one night I heard a loud roaring in my ears, then the tinnitus begun. When i bite my jaw it makes the tinnitus louder, or when I put pressure on my teeth. When I listen to music treble sounds distorted and it makes the tinnitus worse. Does anyone know a way to fix this from home or do you have to see a specialist, and are you sure this is not from sound induced trama.

There are many different causes of headaches, but the two main types are tension and migraine. The triggers and treatments of the two share some characteristics, but are not alike.

Tension headaches usually result from tension in the muscles of the face, scalp, neck or shoulders in response to anxiety or stress. The muscles squeeze the nerves and constrict the blood supply which causes pain and pressure.

Tension can be triggered by eyestrain, grinding of teeth, too much light or noise, poor posture, stress, among other things. The pain is usually dull and steady… feels as if there is a band squeezing the head, and usually accompanied with tension in the neck and shoulders.

Migraine headaches throb when blood vessels in the head expand more than normal, usually in response to food allergies, hormonal changes, stress, among other things.

Migraines are typically characterized by pounding, throbbing, debilitating pain on one side of the head, with or without visual disturbances and sometimes accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Migraine pain can last for hours or days.

Natural Remedies For Tension Headaches

1. Self massage and acupressure can help. There are two key points for reducing the pain. The first being the web between the forefinger and thumb. Squeeze there until you feel pain. The second point is under the bony ridges at the back of the neck. Using both thumbs apply pressure.

2. Sleeping on your stomach or in an awkward position can cause the muscles in your neck to contract and trigger a headache. Sleeping on your back with a rolled towel under your neck helps.

3. Give your face and scalp a workout. Make intense faces by raising your eyebrows, squinting your eyes, frowning, yawning and wrinkling your nose. Squeeze quickly, hold briefly, then relax.

4. Soon as you feel the tension in your temples, sip on a cup of herbal white willow bark tea. It contains the active ingredient in aspirin – salicylic acid. Using one teaspoon of dried willow bark to one cup of boiling water, let steep for five to ten minutes, strain and sip while it is warm.

5. For fast relief, simply rub a 10% peppermint oil solution into the temples and forehead along with a dose of acetaminophen. The combination of the two will bring relief faster.

6. Relaxation of the neck and shoulder muscles is the best way to relieve tension headaches. Learning to relax the trapezius muscles reduces the intensity and duration of a headache by half.

7. If you rely on over the counter medicine you can cause headache rhythms that can only be controlled by increasing the doses. Long term use of these medicines on a regular basis makes you vulnerable to “rebound” potential. Not to mention that they may cause nausea and other side effects that may be worse than the headache.

8. Evening primrose oil helps to dilate the blood vessels easing tension headaches. Take 500 milligram capsules two to three times a day.

9. Skullcap helps ease tension headaches. Drink up to 3 cups of tea daily OR use commercial supplements following package directions. Skullcap is best taken after a meal.

Natural Remedies For Migraine Headaches

1. Tying a cloth around your head (headband style) will decrease blood flow to the scalp and lessen the throbbing and pounding of a migraine.

2. Many migraine and tension headaches stem from a slight deficiency of magnesium. If this is your cause, magnesium oxide supplements should bring relief. Take 250 to 400 milligram doses, three times a day. Start low and increase as needed. **NOTE** Magnesium supplements should not be taken by anyone with kidney trouble.

3. Feverfew may reduce frequency and intensity of headaches. Take 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of fluid extract three times daily -OR- take tablets or capsules following package directions.

4. Ginger is an anti-inflammatory agent that can be effective for treating a migraine. Take 500 milligram capsules 4 times a day -OR- 100 to 200 milligrams of standardized extract 3 times a day for prevention or every two hours (no more than 6 times a day) to treat acute migraines.

5. Valerian reduces stress and eases headache pain. Make a decoction using 2 teaspoons dried root in 8 ounces of boiling water. Simmer for 10 minutes. Drink 1 cup daily as needed.

6. SAMe may help in the prevention of a migraine, however, long term treatment is required for significant benefits. Use a commercial product following package directions. Be patient, it may take up to six weeks before results are apparent.

7. 5-HTP raises serotonin levels and helps relieve headaches. Several studies have shown excellent results with 5-HTP in the treatment of both tension and migraine headaches. Take 100 to 200 milligrams three times daily.

When To Get Help

Headaches can be warning signs of serious health problems; such as, meningitis, encephalitis or brain abnormalities.

If a headache follows a head injury or immediately after a sudden cough or sneeze, occurs each morning along with nausea or accompanied by fever, stiff neck, lethargy or vomiting, call the doctor.

Also call the doctor if headaches become more severe over time or occur once a week or more, have changed location or are accompanied by neurological symptoms such as numbness, dizziness, blurred vision or memory loss.

I would like to hear only from anyone that has been diagnosed with Bipolar disorder and anyone who has been living with it. I am sure I will be diagnosed with it when I go to my appt on monday. I have had most of the symptoms for a few years. I was diagnosed with PTSD I have had panic attacks for at least eight years. I am not suicidal but I will say most days I think I am dying. My nerves manifest thru my stomach in particular, digestive problems. Sometimes I am so tense my neck hurts so bad it feels as if it’s on stilts if that makes sense.also I clench my jaw alot.I have recently started getting tension headaches. I know meds are what I will be given as well as talk therapy. How soon after you started meds did you feel any relief? I have not been able to keep a job as I get so overwhelmed I just can’t cope. Fear of dying is alot to do with being misdiagnosed for 8 months and then diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, I tookthe radiation pill last sept and am now hypo. I lost both of my best friends within 6 months of each other one to cancer one to a heart attack. I lost both my dogs to old age also during this time. I just want to know there is a silver lining at the end of this and that I am not going crazy! Thanks for your advice and time. I am 43

Here’s a little background:
I have been struggling with anxiety and depression for a large portion of my life. I was taking effexor, but found the side effects extreme and couldn’t handle it. After several years on this medication I tapered myself off and went cold turkey on no meds thinking the depression had passed. Months later it returned. I am now taking Lexapro (for about 2 weeks) and it seems to be helping with less side effects.

For the last 4 weeks I have been having severe headaches that will not quit. I have been to the ER twice and they ran CT and MRI and found nothing that would cause these and saw my doctor who gave me some drugs that seemed to help for awhile, but didn’t make them go away. I have recently been to a neurologist who diagnosed them as migraines and pretty much eliminated cluster and tension headaches based on my responses to some questions. He has put me on a tapered string of prednisone and gave me a few other drugs besides, but stated that most migraines only last 24-72 hours.

My question would be – does anyone out there have experience with migraines lasting this long? It is making my life and in turn my family’s life very difficult and is tearing us all apart. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions or other opinions as to what this is? Please I need relief! Anybody?!
I don’t have any money for expensive treatment like massage or chiropractory

I have been dealing with Fibromyalgia for years. I am only 30. No matter what I do to try and relieve the pain, I can never seem to entirely relieve it. I’m sore and tired all the time. my shoulders and neck are constantly tense. I have pain in my legs frequently. I feel awful a lot of the time because i am in pain. I also wake up with headaches from the shoulder and neck tension. This effects most things I do.
Some things I have tried have been somewhat effective, but I have had no long term benefit. They seem only temporary.
I go to the gym 3 days a week to use the weights and stretch my muscles. I go to pilates. i cannot afford frequent massages, though they really help. I am relatively active. But avoid overdoing it because i end up exhausted.

I will not take Lyrica because I know there are other ways to deal with this. I am doing this med free, I believe people don’t need medication for everything. What have other people found effective? Has anyone had long term benefits? Is there a way to relieve the pain on a long term scale?

The special thing about headaches is that by outward appearance, you may not appear to suffer from any disease. Only the possessor of this disease knows what it is like to have it! He feels like banging his head somewhere, but to that extent he possesses awareness that he should not damage his skull or your skull when you profusely tender a basket full of advice as to how he should face this calamity, narrating how you yourself faced similar situations in the not-too-distant past!

But if you have a chronic headache, your patience will be tested on a long-term basis! Because this type of headache comes with lots of other irritants, each one of them capable of subduing the cheerfulness that is part of your personality just before its arrival!

Chronic headache arrives with intense pain, some may call it a burning sensation! Changes in skin temperature, color and texture will confuse you! Joint stiffness and swelling also do their job of damaging your personality and cheerful disposition. If you are a man with a “don’t care” attitude who thinks self-help is the best for your headache relief, do this at your peril! If people like you are in majority, majority of the medical practitioners will be unemployed! Do seek professional advice and get yourself examined by an expert!

Chronic headache is a tension-type headache. You know it, and you are suffering from it for the last several months and you are also not much hopeful about the future, when you will be free from it. You are in a state of total confusion; you have tried various types of over the counter medicines, listened to various opinions, without any tangible result! The intensity of the headache is but persisting and increasing!

You have listened to various friends and well-wishers, your file containing investigation reports and prescription papers by the various medical practitioners and specialists is becoming bulky and disgusting to look at, and your own expertise has failed you, but is it fair to still ignore your grandma?

She has saved many “heads” in the past, and will she not do it for you? Note down, what she has to say, even though she had never been to Kashmir (the apple growing State of India): Apples are highly beneficial in the treatment of all types of headache. A ripe apple, after removing the upper rind and the inner hard portion should be taken with a little salt every morning on empty stomach in such cases. This should be continued for about a week. It will yield good results even in cases of disgusting chronic headache.

If not after a week, after a fortnight, do meet this grandma and cheer her, oh, chronic headache-less man!
