People with Tinnitus from Loud Music or noise. Does the pitch of your tinnitus change when you bite your teeth down, does it change when you listen to music get louder, Or does it stay the same exact tone no matter what is going on.

I belive I have TMJ tinnitus But I havent been to a doctor yet, im trying to find out if this research on the internet is true, or if I have a different disorder..

Temporo-Mandibular Joint (TMJ) syndrome:
This jaw disorder may cause tinnitus and is characterized by many
symptoms, including headaches, earaches, tenderness of the jaw
muscles, dull facial pain, jaw noises, the jaw locking open, and pain
while chewing.
The Sternocleidomastoideus muscle connects on your sternum
by the collar bone on both sides and goes back to the back
of the ear. It’s about 6-10 inches long and when it gets
tight, it can pull on the TMJ area thereby creating a pull
on the muscles and ligaments around the inner ear area.
Almost certainly the final “pull” is the sphenomandibular
ligament which connects the ear drum and TMJ. An osteopath
can work with this. Xanax or other benzo’s can provide
tension relief as well. The masseter and temporalis muscles
(those in front of the ear and above the ear can cause the
same TMJ/tinnitus problems. If a person wants to know if
their tinnitus is connected to their TMJ in some way, have
them 1) clench their teeth- does it change the tinnitus? 2)
push in hard on the jaw with your palm. Does the tinnitus
change? (Get louder/softer, pitch or tone change) 3) Push in
on the forehead with your hand hard. Resist with the head.
Any changes? In about half the people I talk to, they find a
TMJ correlation they never even dreamed of…

Is this research True, or is my tinnitus from loud music?
This is what is up, one night I heard a loud roaring in my ears, then the tinnitus begun. When i bite my jaw it makes the tinnitus louder, or when I put pressure on my teeth. When I listen to music treble sounds distorted and it makes the tinnitus worse. Does anyone know a way to fix this from home or do you have to see a specialist, and are you sure this is not from sound induced trama.

Pregnancy and impending motherhood are undoubtedly among the most life-changing experiences for women. Coping with the changes that comes with having a baby can be both exhilarating and overwhelming at the same time, most especially for first-time moms.

It is important for women to understand the transformation their bodies has to go through during this period as these signs may be symptoms of some other medical condition.

The telltale sign and symptoms of pregnancy slightly vary from one woman to another. The significant hormonal changes that the female body undergoes during pregnancy have been known to trigger what is known as pregnancy symptoms.

* one of the most obvious and significant signs is a missed or delayed menstrual cycle, otherwise known as amenorrhea. There are some women who may still experience bleeding even when pregnant, but typically the bleeding is significantly lighter and shorter than the normal period.Women who experience bleeding during pregnancy should immediately seek medical attention to check their health condition as well as that of the baby. In some cases, implantation bleeding may occur during the earlier stages, normally during 6-12 days after conception. This occurs when the embryo embeds itself into the uterine wall, resulting to abdominal cramps and spotting.

* Another common symptom of pregnancy is morning sickness or nausea coupled with fatigue, which is usually experienced during the first three months of pregnancy. This particular symptom often manifests between 2-8 weeks after conception. According to medical studies, eight out of ten women experience varying degree of morning sickness on the first few months.

Some women are fortunate not to experience this symptom, while others have been known to experience bouts of nausea all throughout their pregnancy.

* Swollen and/or sensitive breasts are also a pregnancy symptom, which can begin as early as 1-2 weeks after conception, which can eventually be coupled with the darkening of the areolas or the skin around the nipples.

* Most pregnant women also experience cravings for certain food. Such cravings can last for a couple of months or all throughout the pregnancy

* The sudden rise of hormones in the female body can also trigger headaches, most especially during the early stages of pregnancy.

* The frequent need to urinate is also a common symptom since pregnancy prompts greater kidney efficiency and significant increase of body fluids. As the fetus grows, the swelling in the uterus causes pressure against the bladder, which explains why pregnant women feel the need to go to the bathroom every so often.

It is also quite common for pregnant women to experience mood changes such as the urge to cry and unexplained irritability, while others experience feelings of elation. It is believed that the hormones influence the chemicals in the brain and cause these mood changes.

How Would i summarize this article?
The Court Confronts a Grievous Injury

For years, the Bush administration has worked with industry to try to water down the public’s protections by preventing states from enforcing rules and regulations tougher than those required by the federal government.

It has tried to apply this policy of pre-emption to rules issued by a slew of federal agencies and is now asking the Supreme Court to approve its improper ideological stand when it comes to drug safety

On Monday, the court heard arguments in the case of a Vermont musician who lost her arm after being injected with an anti-nausea drug. There is no doubt that Diana Levine was badly injured by a drug made by Wyeth. The only question is whether the Supreme Court will uphold her right to sue the company over its failure to adequately warn of a drug’s dangers. Or will it buy the arguments of the industry and the Bush administration that companies like Wyeth should be protected from such lawsuits in state courts if the products that caused the injury met federal regulatory standards?

The administration wants approval by the Food and Drug Administration to be the final word in these cases, not state laws like Vermont’s that often require the manufacturer to meet a higher standard in warning doctors and patients about potential dangers. The court should rule in favor of Ms. Levine.

Ms. Levine went to a clinic seeking relief for a migraine headache. She received Demerol for her headache and Wyeth’s Phenergan to combat nausea, both administered by injections into the muscle, which is the preferred route of administration. When the headaches persisted, she returned for more treatment.

This time, the same medicines were administered by an intravenous “push” technique that is known to be risky — using a needle inserted into a vein. A physician’s assistant mistakenly hit an artery, with catastrophic results. Ms. Levine quickly developed gangrene; her hand and lower arm had to be amputated. She sued the physician’s assistant, the supervising physician and the clinic for malpractice and won an out-of-court settlement, as well she should have.

Then she sued Wyeth for failing to warn the clinicians to use the much safer “IV drip” technique, in which the drug is injected into a stream of liquid flowing from a hanging bag that already has been safely connected to a vein, making it highly unlikely that the drug will reach an artery. A trial court awarded her $6.7 million, and the Vermont Supreme Court upheld the verdict. Now Wyeth, supported by the Bush administration, has asked the Supreme Court to reverse the verdict on the grounds that Wyeth complied with federal regulatory requirements.

We do not buy Wyeth’s argument that it did everything it needed to, or could have done, to warn doctors about the dangers involved in the treatment Ms. Levine received. Wyeth did warn of some dangers of the drug treatment, in words approved by the F.D.A., but the state court was well within its rights to conclude that those warnings were insufficient.

And that is the greater point. When Congress revised the federal law governing the F.D.A. in 2007, drug companies wanted, but did not get, a provision shielding them from this sort of lawsuit. The drug industry and its administration allies now want the court to ignore the absence of express legal language and grant drug companies immunity based on a phony assertion that state lawsuits improperly usurp federal regulatory authority.

For the court to broadly endorse the concept of “implied pre-emption” in this case would show disrespect for the considered decisions of Congress and could foreclose injury suits involving not only drugs, but also motor vehicles, household products and other things. The ultimate effect would be to undermine consumer safety.

Far from usurping the F.D.A.’s power, litigation aimed at holding drug companies liable for problems like those in this case complement the agency’s efforts to protect the public. For many years the F.D.A. welcomed state failure-to-warn suits as reinforcing those efforts; two former commissioners, David Kessler and Donald Kennedy, made that point in a brief in the case.

Only under President Bush did the agency overrule its top staff members and try to pre-empt such suits. We hope this business-friendly Supreme Court will preserve the consumer protection that state tort actions often provide. Otherwise, the incoming president and Congress will need to pass corrective legislation.

How would I summarize this article? Im not so sure on what its talking about and how I would analyze it. Please help

So, I’m fourteen and I am really sensitive to headaches and migraines. I get them easily and I get them bad. I almost get a headache a day. Headaches tend to run in my family and they do seem to be getting worse but my symptoms seem very different than everyone else. For instance my dad gets maybe two headaches a week (tops) and he normally gets them at the end of a stressful and strain-ful day. Normally when his back hurts and similar problems; i tend to get them for considerably less intense reasons. For example I get headaches in crowds, or if there’s alot of noise, or if there’s flashing lights, or if i go too long (a couple hours) without food. Or similar things. I also tend to have different tactics to help my headaches feel better. Most people like a hot shower, some fresh air or a drink of water to help a headache as well as being in a dark, quiet, environment. I normally have a cold shower (not too cold) and fresh air tends to make it worse. Water doesn’t make it worse but it doesn’t help either. Most doctors warn against drinking or eating something with caffeine because they say it will make the said headache worse, but caffeine tends to make mine better and i normally retreat to my room which is dark, but i find that having loud music on makes me feel better than silence.

Now at a party the other day one of my little cousins neighbors and I were talking about my headaches and she gave me this big fancy term saying that I might have it because I seemed to show alot of the symptoms. I said I’d google it, but of course I forgot it. I tried finding it on my own but to no avail, so I’m stumped.

Anyone know of some sort of disorder (or something similar) that has the symptoms i listed above?

About 2 years ago, I was told I am going through premature menopause. My doctor put me on Norinyl 1/35 to regulate periods and prevent osteoperosis. I’ve been taking it for 2 years now. I am now having severe PMS and when I am on the placebo, beginning around day 4 or 5, I get severe headaches that nothing seems to get rid of. The headaches have been coming during placebo almost since I first started taking the pill but they are increasing in intensity now. I’m 46 and I don’t know if I should just quit taking the pill and go through menopause or if I should try to treat the other symptoms and continue with the pill. I used to take fiorinol for migraines when I was a young mother and again when I started the premenopausal symptoms. I don’t want to go through the mood swings and hotflashes again.
I guess it’s been longer than I thought. I started taking the pill at 39. I also read where the last 4 days placebo has estrogen. I haven’t been actually taking the placebo because I thought it didn’t do anything. I think I’m having estrogen withdrawals so I will take the placebo and see if it makes a difference

Typically a headache can be called a pain in the head or the upper part of the neck. This is one of the most common of pains that is suffered by a majority of people at some point in their lives. Moreover the head is the one part of the body that often suffers pain. Basically headaches can be categorized into three; namely the primary headaches, the secondary headaches and the cranial neuralgia, facial pain or various other headaches.

The primary category of headaches can be migraine headaches, tension headaches, cluster headaches etc. Of these the migraine headache is very widespread. Both sexes suffer migraines but after puberty it is said that women are more prone to migraines than men. A rarer kind of headache is the cluster headache which is a sharper kind of pain that seems to occur many times a day and goes on for many months. It is found more in men between 28 and 30 years of age.

The secondary headaches are usually attributed to some fundamental problems in the structure of the head or neck. These sorts of headaches can be caused by internal hemorrhaging in the head, tumors, brain fever or encephalitis.

In fact the brain on its own cannot sense a headache for the simple reason that it does not have nociceptors but the head consists of many pain sensitive receptors that are located both inside and outside the cranium and in fact the pain is caused when these receptors are disturbed.

Not all types of headaches need the attention of a doctor and invariably most of them disappear if the victim takes a painkiller like an acetaminophen, a paracetamol, an aspirin or an ibuprofen.

One treatment that seems to do wonders for many people who suffer headaches is acupuncture. It has been found very effective for chronic headache sufferers. Many people have started trying herbal remedies for headaches too.

The more serious and uncommon headaches can be caused by an aneurysm in the brain, or a tumor or hyper tension that results in a stroke. These require the attention of the doctor and ensure that you contact a medical practitioner if your headaches are sudden and violent, it impairs your sight or speech or you find that you have problems trying to move any of your limbs.

There are many different causes of headaches, but the two main types are tension and migraine. The triggers and treatments of the two share some characteristics, but are not alike.

Tension headaches usually result from tension in the muscles of the face, scalp, neck or shoulders in response to anxiety or stress. The muscles squeeze the nerves and constrict the blood supply which causes pain and pressure.

Tension can be triggered by eyestrain, grinding of teeth, too much light or noise, poor posture, stress, among other things. The pain is usually dull and steady… feels as if there is a band squeezing the head, and usually accompanied with tension in the neck and shoulders.

Migraine headaches throb when blood vessels in the head expand more than normal, usually in response to food allergies, hormonal changes, stress, among other things.

Migraines are typically characterized by pounding, throbbing, debilitating pain on one side of the head, with or without visual disturbances and sometimes accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Migraine pain can last for hours or days.

Natural Remedies For Tension Headaches

1. Self massage and acupressure can help. There are two key points for reducing the pain. The first being the web between the forefinger and thumb. Squeeze there until you feel pain. The second point is under the bony ridges at the back of the neck. Using both thumbs apply pressure.

2. Sleeping on your stomach or in an awkward position can cause the muscles in your neck to contract and trigger a headache. Sleeping on your back with a rolled towel under your neck helps.

3. Give your face and scalp a workout. Make intense faces by raising your eyebrows, squinting your eyes, frowning, yawning and wrinkling your nose. Squeeze quickly, hold briefly, then relax.

4. Soon as you feel the tension in your temples, sip on a cup of herbal white willow bark tea. It contains the active ingredient in aspirin – salicylic acid. Using one teaspoon of dried willow bark to one cup of boiling water, let steep for five to ten minutes, strain and sip while it is warm.

5. For fast relief, simply rub a 10% peppermint oil solution into the temples and forehead along with a dose of acetaminophen. The combination of the two will bring relief faster.

6. Relaxation of the neck and shoulder muscles is the best way to relieve tension headaches. Learning to relax the trapezius muscles reduces the intensity and duration of a headache by half.

7. If you rely on over the counter medicine you can cause headache rhythms that can only be controlled by increasing the doses. Long term use of these medicines on a regular basis makes you vulnerable to “rebound” potential. Not to mention that they may cause nausea and other side effects that may be worse than the headache.

8. Evening primrose oil helps to dilate the blood vessels easing tension headaches. Take 500 milligram capsules two to three times a day.

9. Skullcap helps ease tension headaches. Drink up to 3 cups of tea daily OR use commercial supplements following package directions. Skullcap is best taken after a meal.

Natural Remedies For Migraine Headaches

1. Tying a cloth around your head (headband style) will decrease blood flow to the scalp and lessen the throbbing and pounding of a migraine.

2. Many migraine and tension headaches stem from a slight deficiency of magnesium. If this is your cause, magnesium oxide supplements should bring relief. Take 250 to 400 milligram doses, three times a day. Start low and increase as needed. **NOTE** Magnesium supplements should not be taken by anyone with kidney trouble.

3. Feverfew may reduce frequency and intensity of headaches. Take 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of fluid extract three times daily -OR- take tablets or capsules following package directions.

4. Ginger is an anti-inflammatory agent that can be effective for treating a migraine. Take 500 milligram capsules 4 times a day -OR- 100 to 200 milligrams of standardized extract 3 times a day for prevention or every two hours (no more than 6 times a day) to treat acute migraines.

5. Valerian reduces stress and eases headache pain. Make a decoction using 2 teaspoons dried root in 8 ounces of boiling water. Simmer for 10 minutes. Drink 1 cup daily as needed.

6. SAMe may help in the prevention of a migraine, however, long term treatment is required for significant benefits. Use a commercial product following package directions. Be patient, it may take up to six weeks before results are apparent.

7. 5-HTP raises serotonin levels and helps relieve headaches. Several studies have shown excellent results with 5-HTP in the treatment of both tension and migraine headaches. Take 100 to 200 milligrams three times daily.

When To Get Help

Headaches can be warning signs of serious health problems; such as, meningitis, encephalitis or brain abnormalities.

If a headache follows a head injury or immediately after a sudden cough or sneeze, occurs each morning along with nausea or accompanied by fever, stiff neck, lethargy or vomiting, call the doctor.

Also call the doctor if headaches become more severe over time or occur once a week or more, have changed location or are accompanied by neurological symptoms such as numbness, dizziness, blurred vision or memory loss.

Couples trying for a baby are overjoyed on discovering the pregnancy. It is one of the happiest times for a woman to feel a part of creation; one cannot thank heaven enough for the blessings. Creating life is a miraculous feeling; one must develop a happy and positive outlook towards life and enjoy every moment of the pregnancy. It not only brings with it an expanding waistline but also many other body changes. To enjoy the fruits of motherhood one must take these changes in the stride and maintain good health and a happy attitude for the well being of both the mother and the baby.

Basics of a healthy pregnancy

Some of the early signs of a pregnancy are nausea and vomiting, indigestion, heartburn, over sensitivity in taste and smell towards common foodstuffs, backaches, headaches and general pains, fatigue and tiredness, swelling and soreness of breasts, change in body and complexion, and sleeping trouble.

As the body undergoes hormonal changes to accommodate a new life, a woman may feel initially feel uncomfortable. Try to overcome them by making some changes in your life pattern. Do not resort to over the counter medicines without consulting your doctor. Try a few simple methods to help you feel better:

Eat small meals at frequent intervals

Lie down and rest when tired

Apply heat to ease aches and pains

Avoid alcohol and smoking

Avoid strenuous exercises

Take small walks in fresh air

Wear loose and comfortable clothes

Call your doctor if the problems persist for professional help.

The emotional and mental changes are a part of pregnancy, along with the massive changes in the body. Do not get overly alarmed, but maintain good pregnancy health with proper nutrition, exercise and positive outlook towards life. Listen to the body signs and remain happy. Do not let irritability and mood swings disturb the life. The body’s metabolism and the growing baby in the uterus can interfere with leading a normal life and disturb sleep patterns. Find ways to relax and get over these problems for a happier outlook during the pregnancy.

Do not hesitate to call your gynecologist, doctor or a midwife if there are any signs of problems or something is bothering you. Any abnormal vaginal bleeding, fluid leakage, fever, swelling of body, persistent pains and cramps or changes in baby’s movements call for immediate attention by a doctor. Remedial measures in time leads to a happy and enjoyable pregnancy.

Keeping a pregnancy journal is another great idea, to keep a record of the happenings and feelings experienced by you during your pregnancy. It is a way of focusing on a your successes or changes to pave the way towards positive outlook and change in perspective during pregnancy. It also serves as means of sharing your personal experiences during pregnancy with other people, friends or family. Pregnancy journal can be reference record for your subsequent pregnancies too.

FREQUENCY OF DEPRESSION IN MIGRAINE HEADACHE

AUTHOR:BHURGRIGHULAMRASOOL,BILAWAL,SHAMIM-UR-REHMAN,RAJ KUMAR,ANISREHMAN.

SUMMARY:

In this prospective study migraineous patients were enrolled who wre manifested the symptoms of depression. There was considerable psychiatric morbidity there was necessay find out all migranes aand treated them symptomatically. It proved that we should not bypass the chaces of dpression in cases of migraine especially female patients.

Key words:migraine, depression,psychiatry,males, females,cluster ,tension.

INTRODUCTION:

“Migraine is a mysterious disorder characterized by pulsing headache (feeling of weightage, fullness over forehead),usually restrictedto one side, which comes in attacks lasting 4-48hours and is often associated with nausea, vomiting, sensitivity of light, and sound, vertigo, loosemotions and other symptoms.”(Tripathi-2006)

“Migraine is very common type of headache, with a prevalance of 10-12%,migraine ranks 19th among disease” (cephalalgia 2004)

“migraine is a complex disorder inwich many psychological, inviromental, biochemical, neurophysiologic, and genetic factors play a role to tiger attacks. The diagnosis is based on headache characetrized and associated symptoms specified internationl headache society” (westermanCJetal 2003)

“The typical headache is unilateral, throbbing and may be severe. If untreated, the migraine attacks typically lasts 4 to 72 hours. The attacks are usually associated with nausea, vomitting, or sensitivity to sound, light and or movement. In addition to this, migraine with aura is characterized by transient focal neurological symptoms, which are usually visual, and may precede, accompany, or flow the headache attacks.”(stewart WF et al 1994)

“Thereare two types of migraine headaches. The first migraine without aura(previously called common migraine) is severe, unilateral, pulsating headache that the typically lasts from 2 to 72 hours. These headaches are often aggrivated by physical activity and accompanied by nausea, vomiting, photophobia(hypersensitivity to light) and phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound.Approximately 85% of patients with migraine do not have aura.In the second type migraine with aura (previously called classic migraine),the headache preceded by neurological symptoms called auras which can be visual, sensory, and or cause speech or motor disturbances. Most commonly these prodromal symptoms are visual, occuring, approximately 20 to 40 minutes before headache pain begins. In the fifteen percent of migraine patients whose headache is proceded by aura, the aura itself allows diagnosis. The headache itself in migraine with or without auras is similar. For both typesmigraines, woman are three folder more likely thanmen to experience either type of migraine.

Migraine-there is chance for family tenency, females are more affected than male,it develops unilateral, variables in onset, characterized by pulsating,throbing.Cluster-ther in family chance, males are more than females it develops during sleep,at behind or around head, characterized by sharp, steady.

Tension-Type-there is family history,it develops understress,bilateralcharacterized by dull,persistentent type.(Richard D etal 2006)

” Depression may means the symptom of feeling of said, meloncholic or low in spirit, or it may mean the syndrome of depression as characterized by low mood, lack of enjoyment, reduced energy and changes in appetite, sleep and libidpolic.(A.W.CLARE 1998)

“Clinically significant depression is often reffered to is as major cause of disability and of succide.Medically unexplained symptoms that may result from depression include chronic fatigue, chronic wide spread pain, weight loss and conginitive impairment (deprssive pseudodementia).Dpression comorbid with a medical condition magnifies any associated disability, diminishes adherence to medical treatment and rehiltation, and may even shortet life expectancy.Recent research suggests that patients who have a major depressive disorder soon after myocardial infarction or stroke die sooner than who do not even when disease severity is controlled.(lloyd& sharpe MC 2002).

“It is widely accepted that the limbic system has a role in control and expression of emotion. These structures from a reverbrating (papez) cercuit inwhich inputs from various cortical areas, especialy those involving in perception, are fed in together with other inputs from the brain system and spinal cord.Output is mainly from the hypothelmus, through releasing hormone, and the reticular formation and autonomic nuclie of the brain stem. The hypothelmus plays a part in hormonal disturbabce in depression. The reticular formation and autonomic nuclie contol aroused and autonomic function, both of which are often altered in depression. The limbic system also contains sructures involved in the control of memory, depressed patients often express their disorder in terms of adversely disorted recollection of past events. The limbic system may act as a regulatory system for emotional states.Noradrenergic and 5HT neurones abuond in these areas of the brain, and the system’s close link with the LHRA axis provides a pictures how disturbance of these systems might be linked in depression.”(cantopher1991).

‘Types of depression.Major depression-It is probably one of the most common forms of depression, lack of interest, walk around with weight of world on his or her shoulder, hopeless atate, lack of interest in sexual activity and less appetite and weightloss.

Atypical Depression-individuals somtimes experience of happiness, but fatigue, oversleeping, overeating weightgain.typical depressio can last for months or a suffer may live with it forever.

Psychotic Depression-Individual of psychotic dpression begin to hear and see imajinory things-sound,voicesand visual that donot exist.

Dysthymia-Individual characterized by sad, blue,or meloncholic.it is a condition that people are not even aware of but just live with daily, feel life is unimportant, dissatisfied, frightened and simply donot enjoy their lives.

METHODS:

We interwiewed after informed consent one hundred and two patients reporting atMedical and the psychiatric outpatients Department at Muhammad Medical College Mirpurkhas sindh, between March 2007 to to April 2008.These patients were screened for presence of depression symptoms in concomittently with migraine/half headache in head.Depressive symptoms were measured through depression scale and clinical interview, weeping, lonlelessness, sadness, confusion main questions were asked during interviewed in cases of migraine.

RESULTS

:There were thirty seven males (36.27%)and sixty five females (63.72%)who were examined during attacks of headache,17(45.9%)patients were manifested depressive symptoms and 43 (66.1%)females were developed symptoms of depression in cases of migraine.

DISCUSSION:

It was proved that females were more than male in our study. There were 66.1% females,45.9% male depressive symptoms in diagnostic cases of migraines.Majority females patients were malnourished and weeping during taking history and these were main parameters considered depressive symptoms in cases of migranious patients. From summary tables and diagrames it was proved that females were more affected than male in this study. It means that depressive symptoms were more presence in females during interview in this stydy.

“A recent research findings indicated that treatment for both migraine and major depression may benefit patients with both disorder.Astudy was conducted on people with migraine or sever headahes aged between 25to 55.When their psychiatric combordity was assed, resaercher found that the risk of migraine in individuals with pre-existing mjor depression was three times highet than in individuals with no history of major depression.More ever major depression the risk of major depression in people with pre-existing migraine was more than fivefold hiher than in people with no history of headaches. However there were no relation between major depression and other types of severe headaches”(MrMARY Ayres2003)

“Many migraines sufferes have noticed that at times, migraine and depression seems to go together and there is strong evidence to support this,However it is not known whether treating migraine affects depressive symptoms or treating depression affects migraine symptoms”(MMA2008)

“Throbbing migraine headaches and major depression may be related.Infact having one may increase the occurance of other.Migraine sufferers were five times more likely that the headache-free individuals to develop major depression in the study conducted by the Henrry ford Health system. Those who started the study with depression were three times more likely to develop migraines. With major depression was more at risk of suffering a first time migraie than non-dopressed individuals. And people who live with migrains seems to br more at risk for an initial bout of depression. Both disorders are biological linked, possibility with brain chemical or hormones.”(PT Staff 2007).

“The overall frequency of recurrent headaches didnot very significantly with age, but girls had headaches are common soatic complaints among Norwegian adolescents, especially among girls”(ZwartJA etal 2004).

“Researchers survey 949 woman with migraine about their history of abuse, deprssion and headaches characteristics, forty percent of woman had chronic headache more than 15 headaches in month, and 72%reported very severeheadache related diability.Physically and sexually abuse was reported in 38%of the womanand 12%reportedboth physical and sexual abuse in the past. The association between migraine and depression is well established, butthe mechanism is un certain. The study found woman with migraine who had major deprssion were twice as likely as a child. If thebabuse coninued age 12 ,the woman with migraine were five times more likely to report depression”(science dily2007).

“Major depression increased the risk of depression, migraine as well same. This bidirectional association, with each disorder increasing the risk for onset of other, was not observed in relation to other severe headaches, both were considered direcly proportional to eachother.”(NBreslaw,et al 2003)

It was proved that migraine type of headache bases of depression if it untreated, same mechanism follow the severe cases of depression could lead to migraine type headache.Females were more affected than males. No doubt migranous corelated to depression.

Although the symptoms are generally the same, migraine headaches come in different types. For women, migraines are generally related to the fluctuations in hormones from menopause and menstruation. Perimenopausal and menopausal women are likely to experience migraine headaches when hormone levels fluctuate, but there are other menopause symptoms that will cause migraine headaches. There are psychological and physical aspects that also affect incidences of migraines.

Psychological influences include emotional fluctuations (like mood swings), anxiety, and stress. These specific influences are a result of a chemical imbalance in the brain and need to be addressed quickly. The chemical imbalances are what trigger the migraines.

Physical influences are more along the lines of medication responses or side effects, injuries or physical trauma, and hormone fluctuations. These influences are more likely to be the result of going through menopause. The medications that are used to alleviate some symptoms of menopause can cause migraine headaches, especially with estrogen supplements. Fluctuating estrogen levels are one of the main causes of migraine headaches in women who are going through menopause.

You can have menopausal migraine headaches with or without the aura experience. Aura is a symptom of migraines and is related to the eyes and disturbances that you can experience. Migraines with aura will often cause visual distortion, like loss of vision and flashes, and pressure or pain around the eyes. Migraines without aura will present with tenderness of the scalp, unusual sensations or tingling of the face and head.

Treatments for menopausal migraines are similar to those for other migraines. While most typical migraine treatments will be effective, sometimes there will need to be other adjustments necessary. For example, if your doctor determines that your estrogen replacement therapy is indeed the cause, you may need a lower dose.

However, finally, there IS a superb effective new cure for migraine. If you suffer from these crippling headaches, you owe it to yourself to read about it HERE

Any irritation to the structure of the neck and head can lead to a person experiencing a headache. Furthermore, the sensation of pain can transmit it through associated nerves to other parts of the body such as a neck pain that can cause a person to suffer from a headache as well. No doubt, everybody is liable to have suffered from a headache at some point of time in their lives since it is indeed a very common illness.

”Fight Or Flight” Responses

The types of headaches are many and so too are the causes of headaches, and this is the reason why headaches come about so frequently and there are also instances of recurring headaches that are caused by many different factors. Perhaps the most common cause of headaches is stress which can cause a person to feel a ‘fight or flight’ feeling that usually is accompanied by shallow breathing as well as raised heart rate as well as high blood pressure. Even adrenaline amounts will shoot up and cause a person to experience a headache.

If you do not eat the proper food you will be more likely to suffer a headache as diet as well as sensitivity to food is another major cause of headache, especially the migraine headache. You may suffer from a headache because of variations in the blood sugar levels, or because of withdrawal of caffeine, or because of food additives.

Sometimes a dental abscess can be the cause of headache, especially following extraction when an infection may appear and there may be difficulty with your jaw joints that will cause local pain that is then transmitted to the face and head causing a headache. Even when your teeth are not properly aligned, you will still be at risk of getting a headache; so you need to get a dentist to look into this matter and find a proper treatment for it.

Hormones are what allow a person to experience pain, and sex hormones are believed to play an important role in causing a headache, especially in women before, or immediately after their menstrual period. If the sex hormone levels are low when menstruation is taking place, women may suffer a headache.

Persons with impaired vision will also be at risk of having a headache as this is a common cause of headache, especially when they need to squint, or strain their eye muscles in order to focus their eyes. Even glaucoma which is an eye disease can be a cause of headaches as they refer pain into the head’s structure.

You can also find that headaches come about due to a disorder in the ear, nose or throat and common causes of headaches include sinus headaches, labyrinthitis, infections and traumas. Even damage to a person’s nerves can be considered to be a cause of headaches.

What are the benefits of drinking water daily? Recently, I read the opinion of a scientist who claims that the 64 ounce per day rule may be unnecessary, unless you are thirsty and that it could cause people to feel guilty for not reaching that goal. On the other hand, I have read the opinions of many other scientists saying that 64 ounces is not enough and that people should drink more. Everyone has their opinion but there are many facts that cannot be ignored. The body is composed primarily of fluids. Babies are 75% water, adults range from 55-60%. Knowing that, it is obvious that there must be some way to protect that fluid level. Otherwise the blood would thicken and eventually, the heart would be unable to move it through your body. Blood plasma is not the only fluid in the body. Every cell has some amount of fluid in it. Fluids are used to carry away toxins and waste as well as to cool the brain and the body’s other organs. The average human loses and average of 2.5 liters, which is equivalent to 84 ounces per day through natural processes, such as urination, respiration and sweating. Those that sweat or urinate more frequently lose more so I have to wonder about the motivation of the scientist that claims there are no benefits to drinking water daily, unless you are thirsty. I am more inclined to agree with the scientists that say more is better. What do you think? The primary benefits of drinking water daily are to avoid acute dehydration and protect homeostasis. Acute dehydration can cause death. Homeostasis imbalance is responsible for heat stroke, which can also cause death. But, there are some common complaints that many people have on a daily basis, which they do not equate with minor or low level dehydration. They include: Stomach ache, headache, joint pain, body aches, back pain, constipation, fatigue, inability to concentrate and confusion. In acute dehydration, these symptoms become severe. On a day-to-day basis, people may notice pain in the joints, particularly in the knees. When the body senses a lack of fluid, it pulls fluid away from non-essential systems, such as the fluid that cushions the joints. In particular, it will choose those sources of fluid that are farthest away from the brain and the heart. That would be the knees and the ankles. People with chronic headaches will be amazed by the benefits of drinking water daily, in an amount that exceeds the minimal 64 ounce rule. Headaches can be alleviated without pain killers, if one takes a moment to de-stress and drinks a big glass of pure water. The purity of the beverages that you drink is of great importance. Beverages bottled in plastic are not pure. The toxins in them work against ideal homeostasis. Your best choice is to install a home purification system and enjoy the many benefits of purified drinking water daily. I’m sure you’ll be surprised.

We review various water filtration systems and found the best water filters that remove the highest amounts of contaminants, making your water super clean and healthy to drink.

I would like to hear only from anyone that has been diagnosed with Bipolar disorder and anyone who has been living with it. I am sure I will be diagnosed with it when I go to my appt on monday. I have had most of the symptoms for a few years. I was diagnosed with PTSD I have had panic attacks for at least eight years. I am not suicidal but I will say most days I think I am dying. My nerves manifest thru my stomach in particular, digestive problems. Sometimes I am so tense my neck hurts so bad it feels as if it’s on stilts if that makes sense.also I clench my jaw alot.I have recently started getting tension headaches. I know meds are what I will be given as well as talk therapy. How soon after you started meds did you feel any relief? I have not been able to keep a job as I get so overwhelmed I just can’t cope. Fear of dying is alot to do with being misdiagnosed for 8 months and then diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, I tookthe radiation pill last sept and am now hypo. I lost both of my best friends within 6 months of each other one to cancer one to a heart attack. I lost both my dogs to old age also during this time. I just want to know there is a silver lining at the end of this and that I am not going crazy! Thanks for your advice and time. I am 43

Is this your first pregnancy? Yes! Then, congratulations are in order. For women, who are expecting for the first time, it is both an exciting and a nervous moment.

But, how did you find out that you are pregnant? A missed menstrual period is usually the first sign of pregnancy. Don’t worry, if you do not remember when you last menstruated. There are several other signs of pregnancy that appear during the first few weeks. Some of these early signs of pregnancy are described as follows:

Physical Changes: One of the surest signs of first pregnancy is the change in appearance of your breasts. Your breasts may feel tender, sore, fuller or heavier. This happens because your breasts begin to grow as your body releases a larger quantity of estrogen and progesterone. Another first pregnancy symptom is development of tiny spots called tubercles around your nipples.

Lower Energy Levels: If it is your first pregnancy, you will feel an increased sense of fatigue. This is because your body has been working twice as hard to produce an increased level of hormones and blood to carry nutrients to the foetus. During this time, your body also releases a larger quantity of progesterone hormone, which induces sleepiness and a sense of fatigue.

Implantation Bleeding: When the fertilized egg attaches itself to the lining of uterus, your body sheds a little blood, similar to menstrual blood, only lighter and spottier. This is also accompanied with cramping as your uterus begins to enlarge.

Morning Sickness: Morning sickness is another sign of first pregnancy. Due to an increased level of estrogen, the stomach empties slowly, causing a feeling of nausea. Pregnant women also develop a heightened sense of smell, which can also trigger nausea and vomiting.

Other Indicators:Other indicators of first pregnancy include frequent urination, which is caused by the enlarging uterus pushing on the bladder. Increase in circulation of blood due to pregnancy hormones leads to headaches. Constipation is also a sign of first pregnancy. In the first trimester of pregnancy, a woman also goes through a lot of mood swings under the influence of hormones. Increased oral temperature when you wake up is also an indicator of first pregnancy.

There are a lot of misconceptions about the newborn baby that pregnant women must be aware of. While, most expectant mothers expect their babies to be cute, it does not always happen that way. A lot of babies have a swollen head due to passing through the birth canal. The baby may have random strands of hair or a head full of unruly hair. Swollen eyes and little chicken legs with a huge head is also very common in new-born babies.

Depending on how hard your labor was, a baby may have a pointy head or a bruise on the top of the head, or cephalohematoma. Your baby may also have a flat nose and an invisibly small chin. Delivering the baby through caesarean section reduces the occurrence of such abnormalities to the baby’s head. However, you do not need to panic if your little bundle of joy is born with some such unusual features, as these fade away in a couple of days.

So, all you women going through your first pregnancy enjoy this period and look forward to welcome a new life into your life.

With everything going on in the world and all the stress we must deal with on a daily basis life can be very painful if you are prone to Migraine Headaches. If you suffer from Migraine Headaches they can have a major impact on your life. In this article I will give you some tips on how to deal with Migraine Headaches, so your daily life can be a little more tolerable.

Get Free: Migrane Headache Remedies

First, try to understand and be aware of your headaches. You want to keep some kind of record to know when they occur and what triggers them. If it is certain events that cause them or is the food you are eating.

Find: Natural Headache Methods

Secondly, get in touch with a good physician who treats Migraine Headaches. Not all doctors are familiar with the treatment and causes for Migraines. You want to find an expert who will be able to treat you and understand how you are suffering.

Third, work with your doctor, takes the medicine he prescribes. If after a designated time your Migraines are no better ask him to try another drug. Don’t get discouraged, the same drugs do not work for everyone.

Fourth, familiarize yourself with the foods and substances that can trigger Migraines. cheese, red wine and processed meat can cause problems for some people, while nuts, chocolate, yogurt and caffeine can cause problems for others. Some people have real problem with Gluten that is found i wheat products. But today many stores carry gluten free products.

Fifth, you may want to consider some natural herbs and supplements along with medication. Feverfew is one product that many people believe reduces the pain of Migraines as well as the frequency of headaches. Ginger is also very good for some people in reducing nausea and pain from Migraines. Fish oils have also been found to be very beneficial to those who suffer from Migraines. The Omega-3 fatty acid stops the inflammation that causes headaches. You can get this either in pill form or from eating fatty fishes.

Lastly, most important, not suffer from Migraines without seeking relief. You are not alone and there is help for you if you look for it.

The holidays finally are over, but stress is always with us. So it’s important to find ways to reduce it. “Different people swear by different things,” says Kathryn Bishopric, a registered nurse at South Miami Hospital’s Behavioral and Collaborative Medicine Program, which offers medical and behavioral anti-stress approaches, from yoga and tai chi to massage and art therapy.

She and Dr. Miguel Almunia, a psychiatrist consulting with the program, run through a dozen different methods of stress relief and explain how they work.

Exercise: It helps the body process and excrete adrenaline and cortisol, two chemicals the adrenal gland creates when the body is under stress. And it stimulates the pituitary gland and hypothalamus to create those feel-good peptides we fondly call endorphins. Endorphins reduce pain and induce a sense of well-being.

Distraction: See a movie. Go fishing. Stop and smell the roses. Doctors aren’t sure what goes on chemically, but PET scans can measure how it moves your brain waves into the relaxed alpha state. You’re awake, but no longer hyper-alert, no longer obsessing about the problem at hand. Computer fans call it rebooting the brain.

Laughter: It’s more than distraction; it has the almost instantaneous effect of relaxing the brain, and it can be measured by EEGs, Ms. Bishopric says. “A good laugh literally affects the entire brain; very little else does that,” she says.

Crying: Tears of sadness or frustration contain, and thus excrete, toxic chemicals that do not occur in the tears from, say, chopping an onion, Ms. Bishopric says. “Laughing is still better than crying – unless you really need a good cry.”

Sleep: It also reboots the brain. A good eight hours is essential, according to studies comparing the performance of rested people to that of tired people pumped up on coffee. Tired folks have less intellectual ability, more irritability, even depression. Doctors are so impressed they’re even (occasionally) cutting the 36-hour-shifts they used to demand of interns.

Diet: Stressed people become hungry for the comfort of high-sugar, high-fat foods. But these burn off quickly, leaving them edgy, irritable and even more stressed. Fight stress with a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables and protein. Supplements, especially B vitamins and minerals, can help if you have an incomplete diet. But a good diet is better.

Meditation: In “agnostic mindfulness meditation,” people are taught not to empty their minds but to focus them, to pay more attention to the task at hand. Think of Shaq when he’s in the zone. He might even make a free throw.

Another type of meditation is religious. From a medical perspective it is a relaxation state. Some say prayer is talking to God, and meditation is listening to Him.

Yoga, tai chi: These combine meditation and exercise plus another crucial factor, social support. Some say we have three families, a family of origin (parents, siblings), a family of nurture (spouse and kids), and a family of choice (yoga class).

The latter is made up of people who are unrelated but whom we like to be with. An American Psychological Association study says people with the most supportive relationships rebounded best from the traumatic stress of 9/11.

Wine: In small amounts, it can help you relax, “but it’s not recommended as a medication,” Dr. Almunia says. Chemically, it’s a depressant. It will sedate you and later have a rebound stimulant effect. So it’ll put you to sleep, but wake you an hour later. Use with care.

Herbal teas: A nice brew of ginseng, for instance, can relax you, Dr. Almunia says. “I do believe they have a calming effect; it’s been documented through the ages.” Herbs such as St. John’s Wort or valerian are for depression, not anxiety, he says, and may interact with drugs.

Aromatherapy: It can help, he says. Burning cinnamon, vanilla or other flavors of oil or incense relaxes some people. “It could be both physical and mental.”

Drugs: Don’t turn here for relief of temporary stress, Dr. Almunia says. These are for longer-term, more serious anxieties. If you’re in that category, see your doctor.

If you’ve been suffering from migraine headaches, you most likely are desperate for some way to at least alleviate the pain you are feeling, if not to stop the migraines from happening all together. There are actually quite a few treatments for people who suffer from migraines.

However, different treatments affect people in different ways. Some people are so desperate for relief that they will take any type of pill or injection if it makes the pain lessen. Other people find that the side effects of some treatments are actually worse than the migraines and their related symptoms. For example, if a medication removes migraine pain, but leaves you so fatigued that you can’t work for a day or more after you take it, you may need to look for a different solution.

Before you begin treating your migraines, you should discuss the available options with your physician. The treatments you can choose from are:

* Prophylactic treatments, which help stop migraines from happening. These treatments are usually very expensive and your doctor will have to help you plan your prophylactic regimen. The reason the treatments are so expensive is because you will need to take them on an ongoing basis.

* Abortive medications, which help you recover from a migraine after it has begun.

* Alternative treatments, which are often not covered by medical insurance. These treatments include relaxation treatment, acupuncture, massage, acupressure and aromatherapy. Natural treatments, such as simply laying in a dark room are also an option. People using alternative treatments often combine several of them for better results.

* Diet, including cutting smoking, alcohol and caffeine from your diet. Drink the recommended daily amount of water and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, (green vegetables are especially important.)

* Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation, or TENS, which uses electrical acupuncture to stimulate you nerve endings. This treatment has been shown to keep migraines from forming and could provide long term relief.

Of course, the best way to treat your migraines is to know what is causing them. If you know your migraine triggers, you should be able to reduce, or even eliminate, migraine attacks without taking medications or worrying about other treatment regimens. In fact, the current trend is to treat migraines holistically. Migraine sufferers are taking a pain medication and using aromatherapy and relaxation techniques to deal with their migraines in a more natural and permanent way.
