Had blood test, doctor says I had an early Menopause/POF. I’m Feeling Numb. I’m 16!?
:’(
i’m 16 and have just been told by my doctor, from blood test results (and the fact that i haven’t had a period for 16 months. they were never regular in the first place. or even heavy) that i’ve had a very early menopause or have premature ovarian faliure. strangely enough i never got any hot flushes or headaches.
i just feel numb, i hadn’t even thought about kids.
can i ask all the ladies here who’ve been through the menopause what the difference is, what to watch out for, like, will i get wrinkles, osteoporosis, a lower libido, will my boobs go saggy, will i get depressed/anxious, will i forget stuff…i’ve read online about it and i want to check if it’s true.
and when im older, i don’t want to use someone elses eggs to have a child, i want to use mine, for MY child, not someone elses.
i feel all messed up. my auntie hadn’t even STARTED her period when she was my age. and why haven’t i had hot flushes, but to be honest i am VERY forgetful, and i did have depression for half of last year.
also has anyone my age or near my age had the same experience? personal stories? it’d help so much!
thankyou

yes i’ve had a thyroid test, an ultrasound scan and about 4 separate blood tests. i’m being sent for another. it’s pretty definite. i wouldnt be asking if i wasn’t sure.
the doctor i have (who has most probably already had her menopause) ashed her husband who works in the main holpital and he asked someone specializing in this particular type of problem. there’s nothing else it could be. so yes, there has been a second opinion.

Go to another GYN and get another examination and blood work.
I would get a second opinion before you start stressing out so bad.
Add– Hey I’m sorry that you are going through this. You can e-mail me if you need someone to talk to. I’m 17.
Has your doctor done a Ultra Sound Sonography on you? Just by doing a blood test it is not easy to tell you that you have had a POF or a premature menopause. Definitely not at 16. It may just be a plain case of amenorrhoea or absence of periods or delayed periods. Stop eating chocolates first. Do a thyroid test. Consult a gynec who will tell you what to do. You can take some hormonal treatment to rectify the menses. Many young girls of your age group suffer from what is called as PCOD, due to the stresses of the daily grind.
So DONT GET STRESSED OUT by just a blood test report. Go in for a detailed investigation at your Gynec.
Ok. Are you sure the diagnosis is right? Was it done by an experienced reproductive endocrinologist or gynaecologist? It’s EXTREMELY rare for someone of your age to have early menopause. I would get a 2nd opinion from someone really experienced before you stress too much. If it is true, then you should be getting treatment from a reproductive endocrinologist who can help you through all these issues.
Those sort of changes you talked about that often happen around menopause in older women (like wrinkles) are unlikely to happen purely as a result of menopause, i.e. it is unlikely they would happen to you, even if you have experienced menopause. Again, a reproductive endocrinologist could help you in terms of preventing these sort of things happening in the future and telling you what sort of things to be aware of.
Hope this helps, good luck. I hope it all goes well for you.
