Seven Ways To Prevent Tension Headaches
Tension headaches, which are the most common types of head pain among adults, bring about mind-numbing pain. The pain is a result of the tightening of the muscles at the back of your neck and your scalp.
Naturally, you can’t go on with what you’re doing when you get tensions headaches. You can’t concentrate. It’s literally too painful to think. This is why you should do whatever you can to prevent them from developing.
Here are some tips to drive away tension headaches:
1. Control your temper.
Stress triggers tension headaches. When you feel the ache build up as you argue with your colleague or when you’re stuck in traffic, just breathe deeply and try to cool down. If you don’t get your temper in check, you may suffer from a tension headache that lasts anywhere from 30 minutes to a week.

Muscle tension elsewhere in your body causes tension headaches. Having good posture helps keep your muscles from tensing up. So, when standing or walking, hold your shoulders back and your head high. Then, pull in your abdomen and tuck in your chin.

You must treat tension headaches right at the onset. Rest, ice packs, or a hot shower may help. You could also take over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen. But, if the pain persists, you should see a doctor immediately.
5. Go to a quiet, darkened room.
Most people who suffer from tension headaches are sensitive to noise and bright lights. So, go to a quiet room with soft lighting to get away from the sensory overload. Spend at least an hour in the said room until you feel much better.

Dehydration causes your veins to constrict. When you blood circulation is compromised, your brain’s oxygen supply is affected as well. This is why you should drink as much water as you can throughout the day. You should also lessen your caffeine intake, as the substance causes you to get dehydrated.
