Most of the common diseases affecting the world can easily be prevented if each and everyone of us can take time to look at our life styles and change those things that are harmful to our health.

For example, in the case of headache and migraine, the causes or what triggers them are different for everyone!

The cause of headache for mr. A will not be exactly the same for mr.B,though the symptoms may be the same for both persons. Therefore, you have to carefully think back where you have gone wrong with regards to your health, like retracing your steps and your headache will vanish! Before I started this write up, I had already spent 16hrs.in

my office doing some other jobs. But since I must make a post to my blog today, I had no choice than to write. Then I had a serious headache. What did I do? simple, I stopped writing, took a shower and had a sound nap.Woke up 2hrs. later and the bloody headache had vanished.

What triggered my headache? lack of rest for over 16hrs. What did I do to cure the headache? I took the best form of rest, sleep.

You see,you can do the same to your headache if you can take time to check out what causes your headache. For migraine or a serious headache, if you can afford to avoid the following foods that cause cronic headache, for example, age cheeses, onios, pickles, cured meats, red wine, beer, sour cream, nuts of all kinds, freshly backed yeast products, eggs, tomatoes, citrus fruits and caffeinated drinks.

So what do you do if you stopped eating all those goodies? Eat fish like salmon and tuna rich in omega-3 fatty acids which help prevent migraines.

Also a lot of other triggers that can worsen your condition, are, lack of sleep and rest, changes in the weather, hormonal swings that occur with menstrual cycle, the use of birth control pills and environmental chemicals, including cigarette smoke.

From now on, figure out what triggers your headache or migraine and you will be relieved gradually but certainly in a few minutes.

You may think that this is a simple problem. But do know that 29 million Americans suffer from migraines? For a serious symptom. Take the folowing quick steps.

1. Mix two drops of peppermint oil in a teaspoon of olive oil,rub on your forehead and temples to instantly cool the pain

2.Or put two drops of lavender essential oil on a cotton ball and inhale three times, the pains will go away.

You can see that headache and migraine can be permanently cured with self- care home remedies.

Obiakor David is a researcher and a health and fitness buff.He has written a lot about migraine and headache.

Headache is your body’s cry for help. Do you know that one out of three drugs for headache and migraine disease cause side effects? what then can you do? find out at http://hop.clickbank.net/?onyegu/headmig.

Lifestyle changes to reduce your overall stress levels are important.

1. No multi-tasking: Do not multi-task. Although you may think this is a time-efficient way to go about things, you will rapidly become overloaded. The more stimuli you impose upon yourself, the greater the activity of your stress glands. Keep your tasks or jobs simple; that means one at a time, and do them well. When you are finished move on to the next.

2. Learn to say ‘No’: People often have a problem saying ‘no’ end up saying ‘yes to everything, taking on too much for fear of hurting or upsetting others. They end hurting themselves. Learn what your boundaries are, and how much you can handle. Once you reach that limit, do not take on any more. Others will understand, for they themselves are on overload, otherwise they would not be asking for your help.

3. Avoid known stressors: If there are certain parts of your day where you know you will encounter stressors, try to alter your pattern. For instance, if you get upset in traffic try not to leave the house at rush hour. Get up a little earlier so you can miss the traffic – and possibly go for a workout before your working day begins. Then you can leave the office sooner and miss the traffic on the way home. If you can’t avoid the traffic, then prepare yourself for it. Bring some soothing music to listen to, or a tape of something you want to learn. At least then if you are sitting in traffic, you can enjoy yourself.

4. Don’t set unrealistic goals: Many of us want to do everything and do it as quickly as possible. We are impatient and our society has programmed us to expect results straight away, whether that be in health care, career advancement, or via high-speed Internet. Our failure to achieve goals is a major stressor. Reset your goals to be attainable, and attainable within realistic time frames.

5. Positive affirmation: Wake up and look in the mirror and take note of one positive thing a day. If you see something you don’t like, then look away for now. Don’t focus on the negative, however hard that may seem. The actual process of looking for ‘good’ is calming – and finding it will improve your mood and outlook. Some simple at-home techniques for reducing stress:

Massage: By reducing stress and increasing your feel-good brain hormones, dopamine and serotonin, massage makes you more relaxed, happier and it decreases your hunger-centre activity. This leads to less stress and less craving. Massage therapy is defined as the treatment of disease or injury through the manual manipulation of body tissues. Massage is employed for the relief of pain and spasm, to induce relaxation, to stretch and break down scarring and adhesions, and to increase circulation and metabolism.

It promotes the resorption and metabolism of toxins and the residua of inflammation. The relaxation benefits of massage therapy are not just subjective – massage has been shown to decrease both noradrenaline and cortisol levels in the blood, urine and saliva. That wonderful feeling you get at the end of a massage is not just from lying down quietly for a period of time. There is a significant therapeutic effect from receiving regular massage therapy, which clearly goes far beyond simple musculoskeletal pain relief. Simple massage techniques can also be practised at home to help relieve stress.

1. Use a massaging shower-head, which augments the benefits of superficial heat from the water.

2. Move a simple wooden roller-type massager back and forth across the neck, back or feet.

3. Use commercial electric massagers, with or without heat.

4. Have a partner apply slow, gentle, finger, thumb or hand pressure.

Safety: Contraindications are few.

Following acute injury or a severe flare-up of an existing injury, or in the presence of an open wound, local massage would not be advisable in that area. However, distant massage or massage therapy performed on other parts of the body is advisable to help increase the effects of the immune system and decrease inflammatory mediators, and cortisol levels. In order to receive these benefits, massage can be performed anywhere on the body. It is avoided in certain cancers to avoid promoting spread.

Aromatherapy: Aromatic healing oils can be used during a therapeutic massage. These essential oils are absorbed both through inhalation and through the skin during a treatment. Throughout the massage, lymphatic drainage, muscle releases and spinal pressures are applied to target the nervous system. Each oil has a different effect, ranging from toxification and relaxation to increasing energy levels. Essential aromatherapy oils for relaxation and stress relief are:

• Amber

• Bergamot

• Camphor

• Cedarwood

• Lavender

• Poppy

• Ylang-ylang

And there are several ways you can use essential oils:

• Diffuser – a small metal bowl heated by a candle

• A few drops in a warm bath

• In a massage oil

• A few drops in a facecloth or sponge in the shower

• As a perfume

How to make sure you get sufficient sleep:

• Reduce your stress levels: Deep breathing, meditation and massage therapy on a regular basis can decrease overall stress and promote restful sleep. Aromatherapy can also be used before bed. Burn a lavender candle or put a little lavender oil on your pillow. Supplements to help you sleep include melatonin, passionflower and hops (the herbal extract, not the beer).

• Get into a routine: Our body loves routine. Providing it with a rehearsed setting for sleep is a valuable step towards a good night’s sleep. This means getting into bed at about the same time each night.

• Dim the lights: Once we fall asleep our body starts to produce melatonin, our sleeping hormone. It changes our brain waves from the active beta waves to the calm theta waves of deep sleep. Production of this hormone is also linked to light and darkness. Our body will increase the production of melatonin when it is dark and suppress its production in the light.

So try to make your room as dark as possible to mimic night-time and increase production of your sleeping hormone. It is also wise not to spend your last hour before getting into bed under bright lights. This will hinder the secretion of melatonin and make sleep more difficult.

• Exercise: Try to avoid vigorous exercise in the evening, as this is likely to increase cortisol and other stimulatory hormones, which will make relaxation difficult.

• Food and drink: Eating early (between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. if you plan to go to bed around 10 p.m.) will allow your food to digest before sleep and maximise the fat-burning time between dinner and breakfast.

Avoid a large meal late in the evening, as it is likely to give you a higher than normal peak in glucose levels due to the inactivity that follows as you wind down for the evening. This will increase your hunger hormones, making you want to snack again before bed.

Alcohol is also known to increase hunger hormones, so avoid this if you are having trouble sleeping. Caffeine in tea, coffee or soda can have a long-lasting stimulant effect, interfering with restful sleep. Try to avoid them after lunchtime and certainly during the evening.

What are the benefits of drinking water daily? Recently, I read the opinion of a scientist who claims that the 64 ounce per day rule may be unnecessary, unless you are thirsty and that it could cause people to feel guilty for not reaching that goal. On the other hand, I have read the opinions of many other scientists saying that 64 ounces is not enough and that people should drink more. Everyone has their opinion but there are many facts that cannot be ignored. The body is composed primarily of fluids. Babies are 75% water, adults range from 55-60%. Knowing that, it is obvious that there must be some way to protect that fluid level. Otherwise the blood would thicken and eventually, the heart would be unable to move it through your body. Blood plasma is not the only fluid in the body. Every cell has some amount of fluid in it. Fluids are used to carry away toxins and waste as well as to cool the brain and the body’s other organs. The average human loses and average of 2.5 liters, which is equivalent to 84 ounces per day through natural processes, such as urination, respiration and sweating. Those that sweat or urinate more frequently lose more so I have to wonder about the motivation of the scientist that claims there are no benefits to drinking water daily, unless you are thirsty. I am more inclined to agree with the scientists that say more is better. What do you think? The primary benefits of drinking water daily are to avoid acute dehydration and protect homeostasis. Acute dehydration can cause death. Homeostasis imbalance is responsible for heat stroke, which can also cause death. But, there are some common complaints that many people have on a daily basis, which they do not equate with minor or low level dehydration. They include: Stomach ache, headache, joint pain, body aches, back pain, constipation, fatigue, inability to concentrate and confusion. In acute dehydration, these symptoms become severe. On a day-to-day basis, people may notice pain in the joints, particularly in the knees. When the body senses a lack of fluid, it pulls fluid away from non-essential systems, such as the fluid that cushions the joints. In particular, it will choose those sources of fluid that are farthest away from the brain and the heart. That would be the knees and the ankles. People with chronic headaches will be amazed by the benefits of drinking water daily, in an amount that exceeds the minimal 64 ounce rule. Headaches can be alleviated without pain killers, if one takes a moment to de-stress and drinks a big glass of pure water. The purity of the beverages that you drink is of great importance. Beverages bottled in plastic are not pure. The toxins in them work against ideal homeostasis. Your best choice is to install a home purification system and enjoy the many benefits of purified drinking water daily. I’m sure you’ll be surprised.

I suffer from TMJ as well as very spastic upper back and neck muscles. I have taken codeine, Tylenol, ibuprofen … nothing helps. I have been prescribed other anti-inflammatory drugs and amitriptyline … those didn’t help either. I often get migraines which I manage to control with Imitrix. Also, I have tension headaches almost daily. I’m not exaggerating. This chronic pain is beginning to ruin my life. I’ve been dealing with daily headaches for practically two years now. The only thing that makes a significant difference is getting a deep tissue massage to my upper back, neck and face. When my muscles relax, my headaches go away and don’t return for a long time. Obviously I can’t get a massage everyday. So, maybe muscle relaxants would work. Is there anything “safe” for daily use? I’ve never tried any prescription muscle relaxants before, but I think this may work. My doctor always seemed to stay away from prescribing muscle relaxants for some reason.

I have chronic headaches, lasting all day every day for over two years now. They are driving me crazy… I have been to two different neorologists, several doctors, an allergiest and even the chiropractor. I have had two cat-scans and an MRI, all came back normal. No one seems to know what is causing them.. Has anyone else experienced this?? Or has any idea on what I can do next?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I should have put this in my original post. My headaches are constant pressure type pain.. The best way I can describe it is.. putting a balloon on both temples and filling them with air.. Stress really makes them worse. When they are real bad they are a trobbing type. I am very sensitvie to light and sound, when they are real bad. I have tried about every migrane meds avalible. topomax, and the like. Any kind of physical activity worsens them, even walking.. It is very frustrating to spend all this time and money on drs. and no one can figure out what causes them.

I have these constant headaches and occasional migraines and I’m wondering what’s the best non off the counter meds I can take, I know a doctor has to prescribe them, but which ones are safe and actually work? I tried naturals ways to prevent my headaches but it they don’t really help, or last for that long. I use Advil, Tylenol, they’re okay, but Excedrin is the best but I know I should not take it a lot because it could cause rebound headaches like any head-ache pill. And also if you’re someone who also suffers from headaches , what do you do to get rid of it ? (naturally ) and which meds do you use ? I really need help because these headaches are just killing me lately

- Thanks ♥
And I did want to add, that i’ve had an Mri and cat scan and my results came back normal

I am 24 years old. I have been experiencing headaches since the 7th grade. My headaches usually involve migraine pain in the right back side of my head, facial pain, jaw pain, and neck pain. I have been on more medications than I can even remember for prevention and treatment of the headaches. I have sen all sorts of doctors, a physical therapist, pain specialist, orthopedist, neurologist, and probably more. I am at my witts end! I just had sinus surgery 2 weeks ago in hopes it would help, I don’t think it has. There has to be someone out there who has a similar problem that could possibly help?? Thank you everyone!

I get headaches on a daily basis, not for long.. usually 10mins up to half an hour.. and get them about 5 times a day.. roughly.

They don’t hurt on a particular side of my head and are not migraines. My vision is fine still.
They happen in the same place, middle of my forehead and sometimes the pain is quite unbearable.

I am 16 and I have exams coming up which i’m extremely anxious about. I went to the doctors and he basically didn’t help at all.. he said i should make a diary and write how long they last, when the next one is etc to see if theres a pattern. I’m just annoyed because I told him i’ve been having these daily headaches for months and he’s making me wait a whole month before I see him again.

I get them when it’s noisy, or when i’m on my own and it’s peaceful.. usually in midday to evening.. very occasionally at night but never had one when i’ve just woken up yet.

Does anyone know what’s wrong with me?

I’ve looked up about Tension-type chronic headaches, this may be the case as i’m very stressed and worry all the time about exams because I want to do well..
But.. i don’t have tender or aching muscles.

What do you think? And do you think they’ll prescribe anything for me or am I too young?
i have glasses for reading and have recently been to the opticians. It’s not related to my sight and I drink lots of water daily.

Some background, I have had headaches or migraines since I was a kid (I’m 32 now) over time they started getting worse in intensety and more frequent. I have had several MRI’s but they come back fine. I have tried about 20 different preventative meds. I am on Topamax and Depakote daily right now. For pain I take toradol shots for the less severe and for the more severe headaches I take Fioricet w/ codeine. I don’t take the pain medication to much during the week because I don’t want to get rebound headaches or have my body get used to the medication. I have tried the headache diets, got extra sleep, less sleep, excercised more, then less, lost weight, had blood work done. I am making sure to give everything a chance to work but they don’t. Please anyone out there help me with any ideas you may have!!!!!

I went to a neurologist she asked me five questions and said “mhm” the entire time. If someone complains about these more than once don’t you think they should give me answers? Maybe make me take an MRI or CAT scan? Just because I am 15 they don’t take me seriously. It really bothers me that I don’t know why I get them. I know the usually reasons, not drinking enough water, stress, anxiety and whatnot. I am completely healthy except for my headaches. What do you think causes them? Should I have any tests done?
Could I just go to a walk-in clinic?

I have gone to the chiropractor and had no relief. I had eye muscle surgery because they said that was why I was having the headaches. On top of the headaches I do not sleep well. I recently had a sleep study and they found that I dont reach the final stage of sleep known as REM sleep. I also have been told that I have IBS, which was at about 16 too. I still have chronic stomach pain as well. I take pain pills and muscle relaxers which never really help. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should do next.

I have had problems with headaches for near on 2 years, from the minute I get up to the minute I go to bed. I have had treatment through a Chiropractor but had to stop as it was costing me too much and have, just recently, been referred for a brain scan which showed abnormalities, subsequently I went to see a specialist who diagnosed me with Chronic Daily Headaches and prescribed me an anti-depressants as a muscle relaxant to knock me out basically. After 3 months this dose has stopped working so they have increased the dose but I just feel lousy and its having know effect on my headaches yet, I am soooo tired and starting to feel quite down! The Doc wasn’t very supportive and asked me what I wanted her to do!! she said she felt medication wasn’t going to help me and didn’t really know whatelse to do, I feel like I am being told to just live with it but sometimes I just cant, any feedback or ideas on this would be gratefully received. A big thankQ to everyone for your time xx
Oh also I cant take painkillers of any kind because when I do take them the specialist said my brain is just sending out a bigger headache so that I, in effect, end up with like an addiction to pain releif, and the pain killer doesn’t work anyway just dulls the pain!!

For the past 6 or so months I’ve had terrible headaches, including times when I break down crying in front of anyone because of the pain. It’s gotten to where if I have a headache, no matter the cause, I cant stand bright lights and if I see even the sun it kills me. Mostly the pain is in my forehead, top of the back of my head, and around my neck area. It gets very hard sometimes to cope with these headaches because they’ve been going on for not too long, and I’m not used to much pain at all. I’ve even gotten to where I wont go out with friends sometimes because I dont want to risk getting a headache and having to leave in the middle of everything. I’ve always had throat problems (sore throat, strep, sinus, ect) but it’s only been recently that I’ve had these headache problems. I’ve tried all kinds of medicine, painkillers and whatnot, but none seem to work longer than 30 minutes. Is it possible I have chronic daily headaches, or is it something else?

Thanks so much for the help.:)

Does anyone know of something I can do to be healed of these. I have been told if its in the memory bank of the brain…the cycly cannot be broken..is this true? Can anything be done?
Yes, I have seen many specialists…they all say..it can’t be fixed…or there is no help available. I take Maxalt daily, but, that seems to have side effects of heart pains and stress. I don’t want to take drugs..but, I can’t stand the pain. I do pray and ask for Gods help. I believe he has helped me many times but, so far has not healed me

I don’t really want to take meds for headaches, because I already take a bunch for other stuff and I hate pills. i want to take something by tea form preferrably. What is good for that?
I have a bladder problem (IC)that prevents all types of foods and certain types of meds. The only rx out there for it I can’t take anything like tylenol or aspirin with it because of the bleeding risks. I have had them all my life and I do throw up with them. Just recently I have been getting them about every day or every other day.
I also want to add, that I drink about 10-12 cups of water a day. Because of my IC that is the ONLY thing I can actually drink that doesn’t bother my bladder. I do get sick of it but if I drink anything else I suffer the consequences.

About a year ago, I accidentally sprayed perfume in my nose, one full puff went into nose and I immediately felt pain and burning sensation back of my head. Ever since I started having headaches and it turned into CDH. Had three CAT scans and MRI with MRA but those came unremarkable. Tried all types of Migraine medicines and for last six months I am on Depakote 1000 mg plus Toporal 100mg. Headache is moderate but still becomes severe at times. Anyone knows any remedy?, Will appreciate the answers. Thanks.
The perfume incident happend in March’2006. Actually the headache pickedup badly in april’2006. After going through couple of CAT scans and MRI (with MRA) of brain the nuerologist put me Levaquin,Inderal,Indocin,Elavil,Topamaxand Depakote one after another along with Triptans. Finally Depakote with Toporal started working but not that great though. Meanwhile in Dec’2006 I also saw a ENT specialist, he ordered a CAT scan of upper extremity (with neck and nose) found nothing remarkable. This headache has really changed my life. I am able to function but no relief from headache though. The severity of pain ranges from 4-7 on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest.
