Question by : i am having trouble sleeping and frequent headaches, should i see a doctor?
I’ve had trouble sleeping for a couple months now. I cannot sleep at night, I just toss and turn for hours on end and then I feel tired all day and now recently, I’ve been having frequent mild headaches too. Is this a sleeping disorder? Why am I getting headaches?

Best answer:

Answer by mogroovee
Common causes of trouble sleeping are:

long hours in front of a computer
not enough exercise during the day
too much caffeine during the day or in the evening
type of pillow or bedding not comfortable or allergies to bedding
room temperature too hot
having more than 1-2 alcoholic drinks nightly
high levels of stress during the day
watching or listening to something that causes your body stress before bed
unhealthy diet that shifts your hormones and disrupts melatonin production

These are just a few reasons why you could be having trouble sleeping. It can help to keep a journal of what you do throughout the day for maybe a week or two and then look for patterns.

Also the reason for the headaches during the day is sleep deprivation. Your body can only cope so long without proper sleep so headaches is one of the first things you’ll experience. It’s your body’s way of saying hey you need to fix this issue or it’s going to get worst.

Check out the article below for some really helpful tips. Whenever I have trouble sleeping it’s usually because I’m spending too many hours in front of a computer during the day and stressing too much about work. If I cut back my workload a bit and do some yoga before bed it makes a huge difference.

If you try a few of the solutions in the article and continue to have trouble sleeping definitely see a doctor about it.

Headaches – one of the most common complaints of the patient. Significant role in their occurrence belongs to a migraine.

The best remedy for migraines is Imitrex. That alone is worth it is quite expensive ($ 100). However, the cheapest price found here – http://pharmacy-generics.host-sc.com/buy_imitrex_en-us.html

The concept of “migraine” is defined as follows: paroxysmal state, manifested episodes of intense headache pulsating nature, recurrent, localized primarily in one half of the head, mainly in the orbital-frontal-temporal region, accompanied in most cases, nausea, vomiting, poor tolerance to bright light, loud sounds (photos and fonofobiya), sleepiness, lethargy after the attack.

Almost all people (according to world statistics, 75-80%) have experienced at least once in their lifetime migraine. Migraine – a disease of women, the ratio of 3:1, 4:2 in favor of women. Migraine usually occurs between the ages 18-33 years.

The onset of disease in childhood is less common, although there are cases of migraine in 5-year-olds. After 50 years of migraine as an independent disease is quite rare, but in literature there are descriptions of typical cases of migraine, occurred in patients older than 60 years. In this case, observed that migraine in the elderly found in almost equal numbers of cases in both men and women.

Significant role in causing migraines are hereditary factors: the relatives of patients with migraine is much more frequent than in the population, the presence of migraine in both parents risk children reaches 60-90% (whereas in the control group – 11%), with the leading role belongs to the mother: risk children – 72%. Inheritance mechanism is not entirely clear: some authors point to a recessive, others – on the dominant type. Perhaps the important role played by the inheritance of a specific neurochemical defect (in particular, the lack of metabolism monaminov brain, particularly serotonin). There is a view of inheritance is not the disease itself, and predisposition to certain types of vascular response to various stimuli.

In today’s International Classification of Diseases (ICD – X) in 1988 identified the following forms of migraine:# Migraine without aura (previously – a simple migraine), which meets the Xia in 70% of cases, and# Migraine with aura (associated) – ie, the form in which the attacks of pain is preceded by a complex of focal neurological symptoms (visual, sensory, motor impairment).

This is a more rare form, observed in 30% of cases. Within the last different forms depending on the type of aura: a typical (formerly classic ophthalmic migraine), with prolonged aura, with acute onset aura, migraine with aura without subsequent headache, and the aura is often presented visually impaired and alternate with typical migraine attacks.

Further, depending on the vascular pool, included in the pathological process, excrete, respectively, form of migraine: oftalmoplegicheskaya, retinal, basilar and others

In the classification of children’s shows periodic syndromes that may be precursors of migraine or combined with it, such as benign paroxysmal vertigo in children (the equivalent of migraine in the presence of migraine history). The classification also identified complications of migraine: migraine status (a series of heavy, successive attacks or an unusually heavy and prolonged, usually with vomiting, are rare – 1-2% cases) and migraine stroke (on the background of the development of migraine with aura, cerebral vascular accident). Left of the graph to describe a new species of migraine disorders.

Us based on careful study of autonomic changes in patients with migraine identified vegetative, or panic, migraine. Named form is characterized by the appearance on the background of a typical migraine attack symptoms panic attacks (according to classification in DSM-III):tachycardia, a sense of fear, anxiety, respiratory disorders (feeling short of breath, asthma), oznobopodobny hyperkinesis, polyuria. These attacks are more severe and prolonged course and require a special therapeutic approach.

The essential point in the presented classification is the selection of diagnostic criteria for migraine tsefalgy.Diagnostic features of migraine tsefalgy:

* Generally gemikranicheskaya localization of headache;* Pulsating nature of the pain;* Severe pain intensity, worsening during physical exercise, walking;* Availability of all or one or two accompanying symptoms (nausea, vomiting, light-zvukoboyazn);* Duration of attack from 4 to 72 hours;* At least five attacks in history, meet the above criteria.

For migraine with aura but these signs are mandatory following provisions: no aura symptom should last more than 60 minutes, complete reversibility of one or more symptoms of the aura, evidence of focal cerebral dysfunction, the duration of the “bright” period between the aura and the onset of headache should not be exceed 60 minutes.

During attacks of migraine without aura consists of three phases.

The first phase of the prodrome as a change in mood (anxiety, restlessness, depression, less euphoria), irritability, tearfulness, decreased performance, drowsiness, yawning, changes in appetite, thirst, the appearance of local edema.

The duration of this phase – a few hours, often with migraine without aura, it is absent.

The second phase – the emergence of pain. Attack may start at any time, while according to our observations, night attacks (ie attacks that occur during sleep) have a more severe course, often accompanied by swelling, worse cropped.

At the beginning of the attack pain is usually localized in the fronto-temporal region, the eyeball, preferably with one hand (according to our data, most often on the right – up to 50% on the left – up to 30%), double-sided – 20%.Nature of the pain throbbing, at least – lomyaschy, Straining;the intensity of pain increases over 2-5 hours.

The pain is accompanied by a decrease in threshold of excitability of the sense organs that manifest increased pain from bright lights, loud noises, strong smells. Any touching of the body can become unbearable. Each stroke of the pulse, according to patients’ felt in the head like a hammer blow, “is very characteristic behavior of migraine sufferers during the attack: the patient tries to retire, go to bed, dim room, close the bag ears, wrapped with a blanket.

In some patients, defined swollen temporal artery, sometimes visible to its pulsation. Patients are often greatly compress the artery, so as to cease blood flow can reduce the throbbing pain. On the side of pain vessels of the conjunctiva injected, the eye tears, okoloorbitalnye tissue and temporal area swollen. As a result of swelling of soft tissues of the face is compressed capillary network, face pale, the skin around the eyes cyanosed. During the attack, the headache may spread to the entire half of the head or at least the whole head, while the throbbing pain is replaced by a feeling of fullness, “cracked”, squeezing, nausea, in some cases, repeated vomiting, which sometimes weakens further manifestation of the attack, cold distal extremities and chills. Average length – from 8 to 20 hours.

The third phase – a gradual decrease, “attenuation” of pain, weakness, drowsiness, fatigue (from several hours to days).

The frequency of attacks varies, the frequency of their individuality.

Migraine with aura may also be prodrome phase, but more often the first phase – is the aura, the clinic depends on the localization of the pathologic process, then the phase of pain and postpristupnaya phase.

In the group of migraine with aura is most often encountered (up to 27,8%), ophthalmic (or classical, typical) form, which is characterized by a variety of visual disturbances. The latter, in most cases appear scintillating scotoma (described first outstanding French neurologist JM Charcot in 1887, the patient sees flashing zigzags, dots, balls, fire shapes, molniepodobnye flashes, broken lines, resembling the teeth of the wall, and so n. and then develops headache).

Sparkling fotopsii can be replaced by deposition of individual sections of the visual fields or shedding half of the field of view (gemionopsiya).

If visual impairment occur in the right half of the field of view, the headache is localized to the left, and vice versa. Only 10-15% of patients pain occurs on the same side. Auras usually stereotyped for each patient. Some prior headaches arise visual illusions: all people, things, objects appear elongated (“Alice’s syndrome”, which received its name from the description of this phenomenon in the book of L. Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland”), or reduced in size, sometimes with a change staining. Such violations of vision are more common in migraine in childhood.

In the neurological status of patients with migraine without aura and migraine with aura in the interictal period, as a rule, the deviations are not observed. According to our data, 14-16% of cases were neuroendocrine manifestations of hypothalamic origin (cerebral obesity, menstrual irregularities, hirsutism, etc.), as presented in patients with panic migraine.

In the somatic status of B11-20% of the cases pathology of the gastrointestinal tract, the more clearly represented in men. They also found a tendency to hypertension.

Personality characteristics and mental sphere of migraine patients has been widely discussed. In the literature, the names of many prominent people who suffer from migraines. Among them, Caius Julius Caesar, Poe, G. Heine, G. Maupassant, R. Wagner, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Charles Darwin, 3. Freud.

Several authors believe that there is a special migraine personality, characterized by increased irritability, resentment, conscientiousness, behavioral activity, high levels of claims, intolerance of others’ mistakes. “Lover of perfection” – a common definition of persons suffering from migraine. However, many authors do not acknowledge the existence of a special type of individual migraine patients.

Today we can only say that those suffering from migraine, characterized by a particular sensitivity to distress: low stress resistance, propensity for anxiety and depressive reactions, behavioral, emotional lability, which, combined with severe autonomic dysfunction in these patients allows us to treat them as patients with psycho-vegetative syndrome.

Essential in the diagnosis of migraine tsefalgy has the disease: the changing nature and / or intensity of seizures during long-term “migraine” history, a late debut (50 years and older), the appearance of neurological symptoms, previously absent accompanying symptoms such as vomiting, and so n. They are the “danger signals” and require careful evaluation of patients with the use of neuroimaging techniques to exclude symptomatic forms of migraine, which is the fa

I’m 15 and a male. I stayed over at a friends house and when I went home I started having all of a suddent headaches. Not only are they frequent but they are in the same place over and over again. I reall want to know what’s going on, so please help. But also I am on Christmas Break so could it be from lack of sleep, and if it is then why is it in the same place over and over again.

Best answer:

Answer by pelican
It is probably a tension headache, which could be caused by lack of sleep. It would not be uncommon for them to always be in the same place.

He has a fairly balanced diet and rarely eats fried foods. He has been getting sick more often than he did last semester.
Any thoughts as to what might be causing these headaches? I think it might be because of stress, but b/c they happen so often and so severely, I just want to be sure.

When you think about the numerous different types of headaches and sufferers it should not be surprising that the causes of headaches are just as diverse. There are countless possible causes for headaches including underlying medical problems like the thankfully rare instances of cerebral aneurysms and brain tumors. However the most commonly experienced headaches have common causes.

In all too many instances simple eyestrain such as that seen when working too long at the computer can lead to a headache. At other times, infected sinuses resulting from a head cold or allergy can be the cause. Taking certain prescription medicines can also result in a headache.

Despite the fact that the exact cause is not known in every instance, constriction of the blood vessels is thought to be the culprit in a range of cases. Nerve fibers in the head which are sensitive to pain line the walls of the blood vessels and when they contract the nerves send signals to the brain. paradoxically, the brain itself cannot feel pain because it has no pain sensitive nerve cells within it and tension-type or cluster headaches are the result.

However your blood vessels can dilate as well as contract and when they do so one theory at least holds that cluster headaches and migraines can result. Present research proposes that there are also other more important factors involved when it comes to migraine headaches.

Tension or more accurately tension-type headaches can result from other sources like tension in the muscles of the neck, shoulder and even the jaw. Individuals who have suffered from TMJ disorder which is a disorder resulting from tension of the temporomandibular joint causing the jaw to tighten against the skull will be all too familiar with this.

In serious cases headaches are the result of some underlying disease and these are usually referred to as ‘secondary headaches’. The catalogue of underlying diseases that can cause headaches is lengthy and will include everything from scarlet fever to irritable bowel syndrome.

Frequently environmental factors also play a significant role. Carbon monoxide poisoning such as that resulting from the gas produced by an automobile exhaust or many water heaters can lead to very severe headaches and in fact a headache is one of the main symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. Other causes include allergies, lead poisoning and food poisoning.

Even when food is not itself toxic as would be the case where food is carrying a bacterial infection certain individuals will be sensitive to foods which will not affect people in general. Such everyday foods as cheese and chocolate will cause a headache in some individuals as will certain preservatives, caffeine and red wine.

However position, posture and several other controllable factors can also be some of the most common causes. As an increasing number of people are working with computers every day so we are seeing more neck tension, jaw stress and eyestrain.

Roughly 85% to 90% of headaches are common tension headaches which are generally the result of one or more of the factors detailed here. This means that in the overwhelming majority of cases the cure is easy and within your control.

I get headaches almost four times a week, during the school year but not so often during the summer. Sometimes I wake up with a headache, but it feels different. It doesn’t feel like the other headaches. When I’m washing my hair sometimes, I notice spots on my head that hurt to the touch. They usually go away after a few days. Sometimes it hurts to chew and I’d rather not eat. What could be causing this? I feel like I can’t get anything done because of this.
It doesn’t hurt my teeth or anything in my mouth when I chew, it hurts an area near my temples.

Consistency to urinate frequently with less gap of time after each pass leads to frequency, which is the other name of frequent urination. Frequency leads to discomfort in one’s healthy physical being. Persons suffering from diabetes (blood sugar), hematurai and certain other bacterial problem like the urinary tract infection (UTI) are responsible for frequency. In this aspect, changes in the women’s menstrual cycle are also an important factor responsible for frequency. Menopause is thus a factor of this. But what exactly is menopause and how does it lead to frequent urination? This is a question the answer of which many women would like to seek.

Clinically, menopause is defined as the cessation of menstruation for 1 year or more. Generally when women reach their early forties experiences menopause. Perimenopause is referred to as a period of time prior to cessation of menstruation when a lady experiences bulk of symptoms and frequent urination is one of them. Menopause cannot be considered as a disease. It is only a natural transition process for women who are similar to adolescence, but it leads women away from the child bearing aspects.

Menopause as it is a factor responsible for frequency, it entitles women to make frequent urinal passes. It may create discomfort at the early phase of the menopause period. This factor may be temporary but when it occurs in a women’s life, it creates various signs of discomfort, both physical and mental, depressions, mood swings, decrease in the sexual drive, anxiety, insomnia, headaches, vaginal dryness, loss of hair etc.

Menopause is basically the result of failure of the ovaries. It may sound ominous, but is actually a normal part of aging. Eventually, the ovaries steadily lose the ability to produce the hormones (estrogen and progesterone), that govern the menstrual cycle thereby leading to the gradual decline of the production of the women sexual hormones.

Thus as menopause hits a women, they very often find themselves rushing to the bathroom at the most inconvenient times. Frequency when accompanied with menopause creates a continual urge to go to the bathroom or a feeling of fullness in the bladder. More than 40% of menopausal women suffer from frequent urination which is considered as one among the various menopause symptoms.

Frequency or frequent urination is an important and a very common symptom of menopause.

I had been drinking diet mountain dew for about thepast year or so. Recently I had been getting a pain and having to pee more often. My boyfriend suggested I may be getting a kidney infection, so I dropped the mountain dew and now I drink nothing but water and sometimes juice. Everything went back to normal except now I get headaches everyday. I assume its because I am not getting any caffeine now.
I have been taking Excedrin which contains caffeine, and my headaches seem to go away quickly. I don’t want to have to keep taking them though. How long til I get through this detox period?
