Question by : i am having trouble sleeping and frequent headaches, should i see a doctor?
I’ve had trouble sleeping for a couple months now. I cannot sleep at night, I just toss and turn for hours on end and then I feel tired all day and now recently, I’ve been having frequent mild headaches too. Is this a sleeping disorder? Why am I getting headaches?

Best answer:

Answer by mogroovee
Common causes of trouble sleeping are:

long hours in front of a computer
not enough exercise during the day
too much caffeine during the day or in the evening
type of pillow or bedding not comfortable or allergies to bedding
room temperature too hot
having more than 1-2 alcoholic drinks nightly
high levels of stress during the day
watching or listening to something that causes your body stress before bed
unhealthy diet that shifts your hormones and disrupts melatonin production

These are just a few reasons why you could be having trouble sleeping. It can help to keep a journal of what you do throughout the day for maybe a week or two and then look for patterns.

Also the reason for the headaches during the day is sleep deprivation. Your body can only cope so long without proper sleep so headaches is one of the first things you’ll experience. It’s your body’s way of saying hey you need to fix this issue or it’s going to get worst.

Check out the article below for some really helpful tips. Whenever I have trouble sleeping it’s usually because I’m spending too many hours in front of a computer during the day and stressing too much about work. If I cut back my workload a bit and do some yoga before bed it makes a huge difference.

If you try a few of the solutions in the article and continue to have trouble sleeping definitely see a doctor about it.

Question by : Why am I all of a sudden having frequent headaches?
I’m 15 and a male. I stayed over at a friends house and when I went home I started having all of a suddent headaches. Not only are they frequent but they are in the same place over and over again. I reall want to know what’s going on, so please help. But also I am on Christmas Break so could it be from lack of sleep, and if it is then why is it in the same place over and over again.

Best answer:

Answer by pelican
It is probably a tension headache, which could be caused by lack of sleep. It would not be uncommon for them to always be in the same place.

They are so bad that not even Excedrin Migraine will help. They intensify when I lay on my stomach, blood rushes and they throb. Sometimes I can give myself relief by pressing firmly on my head or keeping my neck in a certain position. Just wondering if anyone knows what might be causing them?

-It’s not my period. My period doesn’t come for another 2 weeks.
Also, sometimes for a few seconds, my vision gets a bit fuzzy.
I usually get headaches about a week before my period, but never hot flashes.

and i KNOW ITS NOT MENOPAUSE!
My breathing has been more rapid. It’s almost like I seem like i’m out of breath.

Headaches are often unbearable and if you suffer from frequent and long lasting tension headaches or migraine headaches, you may have condition called TMJ disorder. Other common symptoms experienced in suffers of TMJ syndrome are headaches, jaw, ear or facial pain and even decreased hearing. Clicking or popping of the jaw and neck, as well as shoulder pain, are the frequent effects of TMJ disorder. Even though TMJ is a common disorder, many people are unaware that they have this condition and continue enduring the pain.

There are a number of things that cause TMJ with the majority of cases resulting in an incorrect bite, tooth grinding and malocclusion. Malocclusion means that your upper and lower teeth do not close together in the correct way and are misaligned, causing trauma. Fortunately there is a treatment for the headache caused by TMJ syndrome that will remove the symptoms permanently. The procedure involves patients having a bite assessment, identifying the ideal bite and subsequently achieving the ideal bite through Orthotic Therapy. Orthotic therapy requires you to wear an unobtrusive oral TMJ splint during the day and in the evenings. The TMJ splint is designed to replicate your natural teeth and will not obstruct functionality.

TMJ splint is an effective headache cure and most people find their symptoms are resolved instantly. Every person responds differently to orthotic therapy, however the vast majority will experience an improvement in their TMJ symptoms. To combat those unbearable tension headaches or more severe migraines caused by TMJ dysfunction, it is worth investigating the benefits of orthotic therapy.

There are different types of migraines that one may experience and there are also different approaches that one might take for migraine headache relief. The best option for you is to go to a doctor to get a migraine headache cure for your headache. This is because you will need to diagnose the type of migraine headache you are experiencing. Self diagnosing is not an option neither is self medicating without a doctors advice. This is because you can not afford the consequences if things go wrong.

There are many that think that they can get any kind of migraine headache relief for any headache by themselves. This is not true in all cases. There is a certain way that migraines are treated and diagnosed. This should be done by a general practitioner in order for you to get the correct cure for your symptoms. If you go to a doctor you may also learn what the triggers could be and you will be able to avoid them. This can be more useful that taking any pain killer since prevention is better than cure.

A doctor will prescribe to you the correct treatment and the instructions of how to take the migraine headache relief medication in the right doses. This is very important because there could be bad consequences if you take the medication when you are not supposing to. There are some types of migraines that are so server that the patient needs to be hospitalised. Once they are under the care of professional doctors they will be given the correct migraine headache relief.

Relief Options

There are also different types of treatment that you can be given for migraine headache relief. This is done once you are diagnosed and your medical history is evaluated. Preventive medication may be prescribed to you. Studies have shown that there a number of patients that can benefit prom using preventive medication. The first approach to migraine headache relief is using one medication. In some cases a mixture of medication may be required and some of these medications produce adverse side effects.

Beta blockers are the more preferred medications. These have an effect on the heart rate. This medication must always be used with caution and they should not be taken by people with asthma. If you find that these medications do not work for you or if you can not handle the side effects. You should consider using natural migraine headache relief options and this could be better for you’re over all health.

I’m a 35 yr. old mother of 2 little boys and just recently (5 months ago)started having chronic daily headaches along with intense neck/shoulder muscle tightening and pain. Initially it was just headaches and my PCP put me on Topamax 50 mg twice a day which seemed to help at first. I started the Topamax at Christmas time. Since then the headaches have returned along with the intense muscle tightening and pain in my neck and upper back/shoulders. I’ve tried the chiropractor which seems to have done nothing. My PCP wants to do a cervical spince x-ray, but since my husband does MRI’s for a living he did one on me today and didn’t seem to see anything out of the ordindary. I just don’t know where to go next. I don’t want to have to be dependent on a lot of different drugs. I’m wondering if I have fibromyalgia or something else wierd or if all this could just be from stress and tension. If anyone has any suggestions that would help I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

Migraine headaches are severe headaches that often begin in one area of the head and then spread to other ears. When a migraine strikes, it may seem like the worst pain in the world and you would do anything to stop it. The good thing regarding a migraine is that it is transient, that is the pain will go away after sometime.

A variety of headache closely related to the migraine is the cluster headache. The truth is almost everyone has had a headache at one point in his or her life. How bad are your headaches? Is it just a normal headache or it is a migraine headache? Read on to find out more.

The most important symptom you will probably have with your migraine headache is pain, and as you know, the pain can be very severe and last many hours. The exact cycle of events taking place in our brains during a migraine attack is still not fully understood. Approximately 25% of women and 8% of men suffer from migraine at some time in their lives. A migraine may remain at a “static” level that is tolerable, as long as the patient is not physically active, such as sitting at the office, or reading at home.

Migraine triggers are numerous and varied and occur in combinations peculiar to a individual. Triggers can be divided into different groups, including emotional triggers, stress, environmental, chemical, food and beverage. Migraine headache resulted from the expansion (or dilation) of blood vessels in the brain and scalp. Insufficient sleep, anxiety, problems, and worries give rise to the migraine headache. Staying up late or drinking too much coffee will bring on a headache every time. There are many possible triggers for migraines and they differ from one migraine sufferer to another. Stress, insomnia, over sleeping, and hunger may also trigger migraines.

What causes migraines is still somewhat of a mystery. Some even go to say that a migraine maybe caused by the end of a stressful situation. You may find it hard to avoid them, but for some people, environmental changes can trigger a migraine. Although the cause of migraine headaches is often undetermined, we do know that they present in different ways, and may involve different areas of the head and/or neck area.

Treatments of Migraine Headache

There are a lot of things you can do for yourself to help treat each of your migraine headaches. Some people find that by falling asleep, they can actually reduce the attack. Before you consider any treatment for your headaches, it is important that you make sure your diagnosis is indeed migraine

Crucial to the appropriate treatment of headache is the proper diagnosis of its type, and migraine headache is a particularly common form of recurring headache. Individuals with mild and infrequent migraine headaches that do not cause disability may require only OTC analgesics. Knowing what triggers attacks is a major step towards preventing them. People can avoid exacerbating aspects of Migraine by paying more attention to the triggering cause of the pain.

One of the most important aspects of headache treatment is your own control over your headache, and control starts with identifying your own triggers, and learning to avoid them. How migraine headaches are treated is usually determined by the frequency of the headaches. If the pain is severe, which it frequently is during a full-blown migraine attack, then you may need medication. Virtually all migraine therapies are designed to eliminate, or at least reduce, pain.

There are other alternative treatment options for migraine headaches. Some people put fingertip pressure on one of your temporal arteries, which are arteries you can feel on either side of your head near your temples. Other non-medication treatments include relaxation training; thermal or electromyographic (EMG) biofeedback, which is electrical activity recorded from small sensors attached to the scalp, mixed with relaxation training; and cognitive-behavioral treatments. Try putting a cold damp cloth on your forehead or temple (on the side that is painful), or deploy a frozen bag of peas wrapped in a small towel, as cold compresses can sometimes help with the pain.

Given so much options of treatments, there is no need to endure the pain. The good thing about a migraine is that it usually stops as people get older.

My 9 1/2 year old daughter is having what appears to me, quite frequent headaches. I am starting to worry, maybe I shouldn’t be. I have asked her if her eyesight is ok and she said it is so I don’t know what else it could be. I give her Advil or Tylenol and it goes away. Is this maybe related to puberty? Is this worth a doctor visit or am I just over reacting here?! Thanks!
