Article by Ron King

Most of the common sinus headache symptoms will be evident long before the actual headache has become painful. Sinus headaches occur when pressure builds up within the sinus canals, which run between your ears, nose and throat. Sinus symptoms generally begin with a stuffy nose, which can progress into more serious congestion in the upper nasal cavities.

The majority of sinus headache sufferers will also have postnasal drip. Which is a symptom that is as unpleasant as it sounds – the blocked sinuses will release that build up of mucus; which then runs down the back of the throat. Untreated, in time, these symptoms will often lead to that excruciating and throbbing pain, known as a sinus headache.

Sinus headache symptoms should never be ignored. These headaches may indicate that you have a sinus infection which will need to be treated by a physician. Sinus headaches will usually include severe pain around the eyes. That pain will not always remain localized, often spreading down the face. On occasion, some sinus headache sufferers will even experience that same obtrusive pain in their teeth. Sinus headaches are similar in some ways to migraine headache symptoms, in that the sufferer will often experience actual physical tenderness in the areas most affected.

Congestion is usually the first sinus headache symptom to occur, because a sinus headache is a direct result of the pressure placed upon the sinuses when they are overly congested. Therefore, relieving the congestion will often relieve the pain. Sinus headache symptoms are not located in the top or back of the head – as is common for migraines. Maybe sinus headaches ought to be called “face-aches”, because that is actually where most of the pain is felt. The sinus cavities run along the cheekbones and forehead, as well as behind the eyes and down the nose. That is why pain might be experienced in any or all of these facial areas. One of the most debilitating sinus headache symptoms for most is experienced behind the eyes – this pain sometimes accompanied by swelling of the eyes.

Sinus headaches symptoms can render a person unable to function – the pressure that builds around the eyes, nose, and cheeks can be extremely painful, and just too much for most people. Even so… The best way to treat a sinus headache is not actually to take an aspirin or lie down – although this may take away the pain for the time, it does not solve the sinus problem.

In this case particularly, prevention is better than cure. So the best thing to do is cut off the headaches at their source. Sometimes, this can be achieved by the use of a good decongestant or steam treatment. However, regular sinus headache symptoms signal that the sinuses are regularly under attack… and the best way to get relief is to get rid of the attacker!

Question by clarinet123: How do you know when it’s the end of your tension headache?
For those of you who get tension headaches, can you please help! I can’t take this anymore! The headache isnt painful, and I’m very thankful for it but it is uncomfortable after a while! I’m not talking about normal headaches, I’m talking about a TENSION headache! Where everything in your head feels tight (it’s kind of hard to explain) but anyways, How do I know when it’s almost the end? I’ve had it for almost a week and a half and I’m just ready for it to be over! Also, if anyone knows any helpful relief tips please help! I’m 17 years old and just graduated from high school, I don’t want to be celebrating like this! Thanks in advance!

Also, I can’t afford to go to the doctor so if it doesnt need to be checked by the doctor then I want to keep it that way! But if you all think a trip to the doctor is needed then I’ll go but I’m sure it’s a tension headache! I awaken with it, my head feels tight, it kind of feels better in the shower, and it’s at it’s worse when I’m thinking about it! But it is kind of hard not to think about it!

Best answer:

Answer by Bruce
Tension headaches don’t last a week and a half. See a doctor.

Acne is an unpleasant condition that affects the majority of people in the world at some time or other in their lives (usually during their teenage years). It is caused by overactive sebaceous glands producing too much sebum (skin oils).Do you suffer from GERD or acid and reflux disease? A good healthy diet for GERD can often cure GERD rather than just suppressing it with medication. Doctors often prescribe medication to prevent the effects of acid and reflux or GERD but the fact is that this medication really doesn’t do anything to cure these problems.

acid and reflux or gastric reflux disease is damage to the esophagus caused by stomach acid moving upward into the esophagus. The most typical symptom is heartburn.

Heartburn is the acid and reflux symptom most people recognize. This painful burning sensation occurs in your chest after you eat a big meal or if you lie down after one. Heartburn is the result of stomach acid literally burning its way through your esophagus.

Jeff Martin – certified nutritionist and former heartburn sufferer teaches you his acid reflux freedom step by step success system jam-packed with a valuable information on how to naturally and permanently eliminate your heartburn from the ROOT and achieve LASTING freedom from digestive disorders.

80 percent of heartburn sufferers report symptoms at night. 75 percent of heartburn sufferers say nighttime heartburn awakens them during the night or prevents them from sleeping. 40 percent say that their nighttime heartburn symptoms affects their ability to work the next day.

When food is swallowed it enters a foot long tube that connects your throat to your stomach. This is called the esophagus. A ring of muscles known as the lower esophagal sphincter is located at the bottom of the esophagus.

People frequently refer to acid and reflux disease as heartburn. The word is a misnomer. The acid and reflux condition has nothing to do with the heart we only mistake it as a burning of the heart area because of the proximity of the esophagus to the heart. If this condition occurs too often you should consult a doctor for guidance.

There are all sorts of different ways to treat cure and remedy heartburn. You can do it with medication or you can do it the natural way. This article is going to take a look at a number of different options that you have to help deal with your condition.

The stomach is the organ that digest the food you eat. The digestion process uses acids to decompose the food into proteins and aminoacids. These acids are very strong but the inner stomach walls are protected by a membrane

Question by proud mommy of Adriana and Chloe!!: another question for my severe headache during pregnancy question?
i posted about having severe headaches during my pregnancy. They have been nonstop for about a week now, nothing seems to help… some of you answered to see the doctor about it, and i really appreciate the feedback.
I have a check up appointment on Thursday, i was wondering if i should wait to talk to the doctor about them then, or go ahead and make an appointment sooner?
this is my second pregnancy, and i didn’t experience this with my first, so im not sure if its something that i should be really concerned about, or something that could wait a few more days?

Best answer:

Answer by Ellen
Not only should it not wait until Thursday, I think you should call today. This could be something really serious (I hope it is nothing) and should be checked sooner rather than later.

Question by ACJ Mom: Migraines or Sinus headache in pregnancy, which one?
I’m currently 38w3d’s pregnant and having terrible headaches for past couple of days. Mainly it’s on the right side of my head that hurts. It feels like someone is poking my brain, like it will burst at any time. To try to ease the pain, I’ll rub my temples but that doesn’t help that much. Does this sound like a migraine or a sinus headache? What are the best remedies for it to go away? Thanks in advance!
My blood pressure has been checked and it’s not high at all. Also I’m not seeing bright spots or black outs. Just to add if I inhale (like take a deep breath), I can feel it start to throb a bit. Also I have doctor’s appt tomorrow, so well see but just wanted some advice beforehand.

Best answer:

Answer by DAWK1723
That close to the end of pregnancy, I’d talk to the doctor about it. You really don’t need migraines or anything when you’re trying to have your baby. They can prescribe something to help relieve the pain. Being a localized, stabbing pain, it sounds like a migraine to me.

Question by Sloanfesta: Is there such a thing as chronic tension headache?
I have constant tension headache since I was a teenager. I am 34 now. There’s no serious pain, but it feels like a tight band is wrap around my head. I also feel like there is compression on the surface of my brain. It’s there all the time.

I’ve been to the doctor. Had an MRI. Came out normal. Was given muscle relaxants and other sedatives. Nothing worked.

I try researching this condition and there is no such condition. Even the headache medications are meant for temporary relief when a headache episode comes on. But there doesn’t seem to be a type of tension headache that is constant and chronic like mine.

I remember 9 years ago, for one day the headache subsided (for some strange reason) and for that one day, it felt like heaven.

It seems I have to learn to live with this. Has anyone heard of such a condition?

Best answer:

Answer by Olivia
ok finally somebody who is going through the same thing me and my mother are going through. my mother has had these headaches for about 3 yrs now and mine have been for the past year and a half. well all of my MRI’s came out normal. my nerve tests came out normal. They do not know what is causing either of our migranes and not only that, my mother had surgery back in may for them. they burned her occipital nerve in her head (thats the pain nerve) and that surgery failed. so i do believe that you can get chronic tension headaches. i am a firm believer of them even though the doctors may disagree

If headache pain is a frequent problem for you, there are ways to help prevent them. Many headache sufferers have reported success with natural, homeopathic products, relaxation techniques, and the use of aromatherapy essential oils.

Aromatherapy may seem a little “out there” but think of how the human brain works with the olfactory senses, more commonly known as the sense of smell. It’s logical to trust that if a smell can touch off a headache, it may then also be quite effective in their prevention. There are specific aromas which are quite effective for calming nerves and reducing tension. The delicate scents of vanilla and lavender are calming to the mind and brain. They’re found in numerous bath products labeled for use in soothing and calming both tension and stress.

Peppermint oil also demonstrates potential in producing good results for preventing headache pain. Vicks Salve applied to the forehead was a tried-and-true method of addressing severe headaches for many people in years past and is still a good remedy to try for that stubborn, painful throbbing.

Medical acupuncture is undergoing a popularity surge for its ability to control various types of physical pain, including headaches. Scientific research has shown that it is a legitimate therapy for treating both headache and migraine pain. Dental pain and nausea have also been shown to respond favorably to acupuncture treatment. More research and medical studies are needed to prove this is the perfect treatment for headache pain.

Physical exercise is underestimated as it pertains to prevention of headaches. Headaches are frequently induced by tension and stress and therefore physical exercise is a terrific way to relieve those problems before the pain begins. Prior to starting any form of exercise, it is best to contact your doctor or medical professional to choose the right exercise program for you and your health situation.

Begin slowly on any exercise regimen if you do not already exercise regularly. Take a brisk walk around the block, spend several minutes on the treadmill, or do some simple stretching routines. You shouldn’t exercise to the point of exhaustion or pain. Always pay attention to what your body is telling you – it knows when it’s had enough and needs to rest.

Studies show that some headache patients who undergo chiropractic manipulation have had good results in preventing their headaches. Complications, although rare, can arise as a result of chiropractic manipulation and may include the possibility of stroke from the manipulation of the neck. To be safe, consult your doctor before undergoing chiropractic manipulation, especially if you have high risk factors for stroke.

Herbal and nutritional remedies such as vitamin B12 and magnesium are also quite effective in headache prevention for some people. Normally, results are not seen until a person has taken the supplements for at least three months.

Food and drinks which are high in caffeine should be avoided by anyone who experiences frequent headache pain. Switching to caffeine-free soda, coffee, or tea may diminish the frequency of headaches. Keeping a food and headache diary can be crucial in determining your personal headache triggers. This diary will help you identify specific food and drink triggers, as well as environmental and stress causes, so you can avoid those in order to help prevent recurrence of headache pain.

The prevention of headaches may prove to be easier than treating them once they have begun. Exercise at least three days a week, keep your diary, and watch your diet. Steer clear of foods which trigger headaches and take steps to help reduce the stress and tension in your life.

Spend a little extra time and take a relaxing bath with sweet-smelling bubble bath, calming essential oils such as lavender and/or chamomile, or bath salts. Light a candle with a soothing scent and lay back for a few moments with your eyes closed. Relax!

Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a brain disorder in which clusters of nerve cells, or neurons, in the brain sometimes signal abnormally. Neurons usually generate electrochemical impulses that act on other neurons, glands, and muscles to produce human thoughts, feelings, and actions. In epilepsy, the normal pattern of neuronal activity becomes disturbed, causing strange sensations, emotions, and behavior, or sometimes convulsions, muscle spasms, and loss of consciousness. During a seizure, neurons may fire as many as 500 times a second, much faster than normal. In some people, this happens only occasionally; for others, it may happen up to hundreds of times a day. Epilepsy is not contagious and is not caused by mental illness or mental retardation. a number of people with mental retardation may experience seizures, but seizures do not necessarily mean the person has or will develop mental impairment. Many people with epilepsy have normal or above-average intelligence.

Headache

A tension headache is pain or discomfort in the head, scalp, or neck, usually associated with muscle tightness in these areas. Tension headaches are one of the most common forms of headaches. It may occur at any age, but are most common in adults and adolescents. Tension headaches occur when neck and scalp muscles become tense, or contract. The muscle contractions can be a response to stress, depression, a head injury, or anxiety. If a headache occurs two or more times a week for several months or longer, the condition is considered chronic. Chronic daily headaches can result from the under or over treatment of a primary headache. For example, patients who take pain medication more than 3 days a week on a regular basis can develop rebound headaches.Any activity that causes the head to be held in one position for a long time without moving may cause a headache. Such activities include typing or other computer work, fine work with the hands, and using a microscope. Sleeping in a cold room or sleeping with the neck in an abnormal position may also trigger a tension headache.

Movement disorder

Imagine if you could not walk normally or get up from a chair, or if parts of your body moved when you did not want them to. If you have a movement disorder, you experience these kinds of impaired movement. Movement disorders are neurological conditions which affect the speed, fluency, quality, and ease of movement. Abnormal fluency or speed of movement (dyskinesia) may involve excessive or involuntary movement (hyperkinesia) or slowed or absent voluntary movement (hypokinesia).

Migraine headaches are the commonest style of headache when you’re talking about headaches whose intensity level is moderate to severe. Tension-type headaches, also known as stress headaches, are experienced more frequently, but are generally not as brutal in intensity. Along with the headache pain, an episode of migraine can present additional signs or symptoms that may emerge previous to, during, or later than the headache. About 60% of all migraine victims will face signs or symptoms prior to the onset of headache. These signs and symptoms can consist of mood changes, queasiness, throwing up, depression, lack of appetite, light sensitivity, and a great number of others.Previous to the head pain a lot of individuals may develop auras, which classically appear from 10 minutes to 30 minutes before the actual headache. Auras will most likely include visual, hearing, or olfactory disorders. In other words, migraineurs might experience signs or symptoms ahead of the headache pain that can include photophobia, dazzling zigzagging light flashes, blind spots, hallucinations, sensitivity to loud noises, and increased sensitivity to odors. Other symptoms that can occur with auras can involve upper extremity or facial numbness or tingling, speaking problems, touchiness, mood swings, a reduction of color in the face, less warmth in the hands, diarrhea, a decrease in energy, in addition to a lot of others. As soon as somebody starts to feel these types of symptoms it will alert them to a soon-to-take-place migraine attack. This is generally advantageous since treatment can begin early and a full-blown migraine attack may well be averted. Although this will merely provide migraine headache relief, you can find some other treatment methods that may perhaps produce a migraine headache cure.Typical migraine headaches include an intense throbbing pain that happens on a single side of the head, but will be experienced on two sides roughly one third of the time. With unilateral migraines they will typically switch sides from headache to headache. This means the stabbing headaches will most likely appear on the left side a time or two and then switch to the other side the next couple of times. If the pounding pain is constantly seen on the same side it could suggest a tumor or other dangerous health problem. When high-intensity headache pain show up constantly on the same side it could be caused by a dangerous health problem and specialized health assistance should be sought.Doing vigorous activities or physical exercises including running or biking will frequently result in an increase of the headache pain. For that reason, vigorous activities ought to be avoided while experiencing a migraine headache. On the other hand, exercising on a repeated basis can help decrease the amount and intensity of migraine headaches. Around 75% of migraine symptoms are felt by women and are sometimes related to their menstrual cycle. In the bulk of migraine victims the symptoms are ordinarily first experienced between puberty and young adulthood. The headache episodes will customarily decline at the age of about 50 or 55. Migraine headache symptoms ordinarily occur as much as a couple of times every week or as little as one time every few months or longer. Unfortunately, they will occasionally turn out to be chronic, meaning they will develop at least half the days of the month.

Migraines might be considered the worst of all head pains, but cluster headaches might not be far behind. Presenting with massive amounts of pain in and around a single eye, these headaches come on fast, hit hard, go away and then come back again in rapid succession. The fast-paced nature of these headaches gives rise to the name.

Cluster headaches are considered very dramatic occurrences and can strike their sufferers as much as eight times a day. The pain involved in an attack can be as short lived as five minutes or span out to cover three hours or more.

Cluster headache sufferers often describe the pain involved as explosive, excruciating and piercing. The best description is like the pain that might go along with having an ice pick jammed into a single eye. The pain, in fact, can be so severe that some sufferers are known to bang their heads on hard surfaces during attacks.

Fortunately, cluster headache problems are not very common, but for those who suffer from the condition that’s little comfort. In addition to the stabbing pain in the eye, a cluster headache can also come along with such symptoms nasal congestion, watery eyes, swollen eyelids and more. The patient’s heart beat may increase dramatically during an attack.

Those who ensure cluster headache symptoms for long periods of time sometimes develop other conditions as a result. Anxiety, or fear of another attack, and even depression can be very real side effects of the headache condition. Considering this, it’s a very good idea to seek assistance in getting the symptoms under control.

While there isn’t a 100 percent effective cure for cluster headache symptoms, there is some help available. There are some drugs available to help those who suffer from cluster headache symptoms. The typical treatments include those that help lessen the pain during attacks and other drugs that help prevent attacks from coming on in the first place. There are even some surgical procedures that can help with the condition.

One unusual feature that tends to go along with cluster headache attacks is the inherent intermittent nature of the condition. Attacks can come on for weeks on end and then stop for an extended duration. This in and of itself gives rise to the concerns about anxiety disorder setting in as a result of the headaches.

Cluster headaches are not as common as other forms of head pain, but they are one of the worst conditions that can arise. Coming on hard and fast, these headaches leave their sufferers feeling drained and feeling very afraid of another attack that might yet come. Since they do tend to bunch up, once one strikes, those who suffer are almost guaranteed a repeat, and unwanted, performance.
