If headache pain is a frequent problem for you, there are ways to help prevent them. Many headache sufferers have reported success with natural, homeopathic products, relaxation techniques, and the use of aromatherapy essential oils.

Aromatherapy may seem a little “out there” but think of how the human brain works with the olfactory senses, more commonly known as the sense of smell. It’s logical to trust that if a smell can touch off a headache, it may then also be quite effective in their prevention. There are specific aromas which are quite effective for calming nerves and reducing tension. The delicate scents of vanilla and lavender are calming to the mind and brain. They’re found in numerous bath products labeled for use in soothing and calming both tension and stress.

Peppermint oil also demonstrates potential in producing good results for preventing headache pain. Vicks Salve applied to the forehead was a tried-and-true method of addressing severe headaches for many people in years past and is still a good remedy to try for that stubborn, painful throbbing.

Medical acupuncture is undergoing a popularity surge for its ability to control various types of physical pain, including headaches. Scientific research has shown that it is a legitimate therapy for treating both headache and migraine pain. Dental pain and nausea have also been shown to respond favorably to acupuncture treatment. More research and medical studies are needed to prove this is the perfect treatment for headache pain.

Physical exercise is underestimated as it pertains to prevention of headaches. Headaches are frequently induced by tension and stress and therefore physical exercise is a terrific way to relieve those problems before the pain begins. Prior to starting any form of exercise, it is best to contact your doctor or medical professional to choose the right exercise program for you and your health situation.

Begin slowly on any exercise regimen if you do not already exercise regularly. Take a brisk walk around the block, spend several minutes on the treadmill, or do some simple stretching routines. You shouldn’t exercise to the point of exhaustion or pain. Always pay attention to what your body is telling you – it knows when it’s had enough and needs to rest.

Studies show that some headache patients who undergo chiropractic manipulation have had good results in preventing their headaches. Complications, although rare, can arise as a result of chiropractic manipulation and may include the possibility of stroke from the manipulation of the neck. To be safe, consult your doctor before undergoing chiropractic manipulation, especially if you have high risk factors for stroke.

Herbal and nutritional remedies such as vitamin B12 and magnesium are also quite effective in headache prevention for some people. Normally, results are not seen until a person has taken the supplements for at least three months.

Food and drinks which are high in caffeine should be avoided by anyone who experiences frequent headache pain. Switching to caffeine-free soda, coffee, or tea may diminish the frequency of headaches. Keeping a food and headache diary can be crucial in determining your personal headache triggers. This diary will help you identify specific food and drink triggers, as well as environmental and stress causes, so you can avoid those in order to help prevent recurrence of headache pain.

The prevention of headaches may prove to be easier than treating them once they have begun. Exercise at least three days a week, keep your diary, and watch your diet. Steer clear of foods which trigger headaches and take steps to help reduce the stress and tension in your life.

Spend a little extra time and take a relaxing bath with sweet-smelling bubble bath, calming essential oils such as lavender and/or chamomile, or bath salts. Light a candle with a soothing scent and lay back for a few moments with your eyes closed. Relax!

Migraine headaches are the commonest style of headache when you’re talking about headaches whose intensity level is moderate to severe. Tension-type headaches, also known as stress headaches, are experienced more frequently, but are generally not as brutal in intensity. Along with the headache pain, an episode of migraine can present additional signs or symptoms that may emerge previous to, during, or later than the headache. About 60% of all migraine victims will face signs or symptoms prior to the onset of headache. These signs and symptoms can consist of mood changes, queasiness, throwing up, depression, lack of appetite, light sensitivity, and a great number of others.Previous to the head pain a lot of individuals may develop auras, which classically appear from 10 minutes to 30 minutes before the actual headache. Auras will most likely include visual, hearing, or olfactory disorders. In other words, migraineurs might experience signs or symptoms ahead of the headache pain that can include photophobia, dazzling zigzagging light flashes, blind spots, hallucinations, sensitivity to loud noises, and increased sensitivity to odors. Other symptoms that can occur with auras can involve upper extremity or facial numbness or tingling, speaking problems, touchiness, mood swings, a reduction of color in the face, less warmth in the hands, diarrhea, a decrease in energy, in addition to a lot of others. As soon as somebody starts to feel these types of symptoms it will alert them to a soon-to-take-place migraine attack. This is generally advantageous since treatment can begin early and a full-blown migraine attack may well be averted. Although this will merely provide migraine headache relief, you can find some other treatment methods that may perhaps produce a migraine headache cure.Typical migraine headaches include an intense throbbing pain that happens on a single side of the head, but will be experienced on two sides roughly one third of the time. With unilateral migraines they will typically switch sides from headache to headache. This means the stabbing headaches will most likely appear on the left side a time or two and then switch to the other side the next couple of times. If the pounding pain is constantly seen on the same side it could suggest a tumor or other dangerous health problem. When high-intensity headache pain show up constantly on the same side it could be caused by a dangerous health problem and specialized health assistance should be sought.Doing vigorous activities or physical exercises including running or biking will frequently result in an increase of the headache pain. For that reason, vigorous activities ought to be avoided while experiencing a migraine headache. On the other hand, exercising on a repeated basis can help decrease the amount and intensity of migraine headaches. Around 75% of migraine symptoms are felt by women and are sometimes related to their menstrual cycle. In the bulk of migraine victims the symptoms are ordinarily first experienced between puberty and young adulthood. The headache episodes will customarily decline at the age of about 50 or 55. Migraine headache symptoms ordinarily occur as much as a couple of times every week or as little as one time every few months or longer. Unfortunately, they will occasionally turn out to be chronic, meaning they will develop at least half the days of the month.

Article by James S Pendergraft

It is very difficult to identify as to which kind of headache a person is suffering from. The five kinds of headaches are sinus headache, tension headache, rebound tension, migraine headache or cluster headache. If one could identify what kind of headache he or she is going through then the right treatment could be prescribed.

In one of the study of 2004, eighty percent of the patients with the current history regarding doctor diagnosed or self described sinus headache were noted, however not even one signs of the sinus infection was seen, generally it matched to criteria for the migraine. And about 2/3rd of these victims expressed their dissatisfaction regarding the medications which were prescribed to them.

The most usual kind of headache is tension headache, here you feel a continuous pressure or ache around your head, particularly at the back and temples of the neck and head. But it is not as severe like the migraines headache, they aren’t normally accompanied by vomiting and nausea and they hardly prohibit anyone from doing their normal activities. Without a prescription medications, like acetaminophen (Tylenol), aspirin or ibuprofen are normally sufficient enough to treat your tension headaches, and the experts believe that this might have been caused due to the contraction of scalp muscles and neck and probably alteration in the brain chemicals.

The next kind of headache is cluster headache which affects men more frequent than women, is returning headache which occur in cycles or group. These headaches occur suddenly and are considered as incapacitating and serious pain and it occurs on 1 side of head and is frequently accompanied by nasal congestion and watery eye and might have running nose as well. When you suffer from this headache, you are frequently restless as well as are uncomfortable. As to why the cluster headache is caused is still not known.

There’s no cure, however treatments could decline the duration and frequency of the attacks.

The third kind is sinus headache. When the sinus turns to be inflamed, normally through the infection, then it could cause pain. It generally comes with the fever and if necessary, could be diagnosed with the help of CT scan or MRI scan. This type of headache which is caused because of sinus problem could be treated with the help of antibiotics and decongestants or antihistamines.

The fourth one is migraine headache. This arises because of neurological disorder which could run in your families. This is one of the worst headaches that anyone would have come across. Migraines could immobilize people for some days and also for weeks. In short, it means that the migraine patients undergo a non productivity period as for intense pain as well as sharp sensitivity to the light.

The last is rebound headache. Due to the over utilization of the painkillers because of headaches could paradoxically lead to the rebound headache. The culprits include without a prescription treatments such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen or aspirin.

Getting a migraine headache has become all-too-natural for people who live hectic, hurried lives in the city. It is no wonder that every urbanite’s cupboard or medicine cabinet is often stocked with pain relief medications. When the migraine headache comes back, we simply repeat the practice. While it seems harmless to take migraine headache pills for a day or two, overusing it can have unexpected and serious consequences.

Overusing pain relief medications can become a cycle. It can make migraine headaches return as soon as the effect of the medication wears off. Once the pain returns, the tendency is to take more medications until it becomes a worse cycle. Medication overuse headaches are also known as rebound headaches. Rebound headaches are caused by medication taken to relieve regular headaches. In the case of problem headaches, such medication can be a lifesaver. However, the overuse of certain pain relief medications can cause headaches to occur more often and become more severe. People should learn to understand this problem and develop ways to deal with it in order to take control of frequent headaches.

Rebound migraine headaches occur when pain relief medication is taken too frequently to relieve migraine headache pain. It’s not easy to diagnose rebound migraine headaches. Overuse is determined by asking patients if their migraine headaches assumed a new pattern or became more severe after taking medications excessively. More than three times a week is generally considered excessive medication. However, to make a sure diagnosis of rebound headache, the patient must be withdrawn from medication anywhere up to 6 times.

Breaking this cycle means discontinuing the use of the medication. Bear in mind that such withdrawal will actually heighten the headache for the first few weeks. Withdrawal may not be easy. It may take days, weeks, or even months of agonizing withdrawal symptoms, which include headaches and fatigue. Usually, It requires another medication, and sometimes, even hospitalization just to overcome the withdrawal process. The headaches will then gradually recede afterwards. Consult a physician before you revert to the use of medication.

According to Timothy R. Smith, the medical director of the Ryan Headache Center in St. Louis, many experts still don’t know exactly what causes rebound migraine headaches, though the regular overuse of pain relief medication can cause physiological changes. The use of too much pain relievers can lower a person’s pain threshold so that they begin to require more painkillers just to feel “normal” again.

Pain reliever overuse can actually lower the level of serotonin, a hormone that acts as a chemical messenger which transmits nerve signals between nerve cells and causes blood vessels to narrow. Changes in the serotonin levels in the brain can alter the mood as well as pain perception.

The problem with rebound migraine headaches is that they can be difficult to identify. People with rebound migraine headaches usually had chronic migraine headaches to begin with, which is precisely the reason why they started to take medication in the first place. It would be difficult for both the doctor and the patient to notice the shift from a migraine headache to a rebound migraine headache.

Symptoms, however, can vary from person to person. The nausea and sensitivity to light that are typically present with migraine headaches are usually absent in rebound migraine headaches, and the pain can felt in different parts of the head. Patients with rebound migraine headaches will usually complain of daily headaches with pain that escalate to a point where it’s interfering with normal lifestyle, causing anxiety and depression to the individual. According to experts, any pain relief medication is capable of causing rebound headaches when taken frequently and in more than enough dosage. Even over-the-counter medications that contain aspirin, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen can also cause rebound headaches. It is important to note that combining these medications with caffeine can cause a more serious problem.

Many menopausal women experience symptoms of joint pain. Medical experts have investigated the connection between hormonal changes and this type of pain.

Some women experience pain in joints and muscles, mouth discomfort, headaches and some even report heart palpitations. Interestingly, women who suffer from tension headaches, abdominal pain or facial pain symptoms are decreased after menopause. Scientists feel now may indeed be a link between estrogen, hormone levels and their fluctuations, and this phenomenon

Menopause and Joint Pain: Symptoms of Menopause

Menopause occurs when a woman stops ovulating and menstruation ceases. Most women reach menopause between 45 and 55, with an average age of about 50. However, about 1% reaches it before the age of 40 years, known as premature menopause or premature ovarian failure.

Some women (the luckiest of the lot) may experience some symptoms, while others complain of mild to severe. However, the reassuring part is that the variation is normal. Women who experience pelvic pain or cramps during menopause can remember who have the same right before or during menstruation and this can have a link to your hormonal cycle.

A common phenomenon during menstruation, pelvic pain is known as dysmenorrhea. However, if these stomach cramps occur during menopause and are severe enough to interfere with daily activities, then it could be an underlying condition and should be checked by a doctor.

The list of symptoms of menopause is really comprehensive to be listed in full, however, most commonly observed symptoms include hot flashes, joint pain, hair loss, dry skin, unexplained headache, vaginal dryness etc. Before reaching menopause completely independent of these symptoms, the woman may have irregular periods may be heavy or light in flow. The irregularity of menstruation is in fact one of the “symptoms of menopause” first fires his approach to menopause.

It should be emphasized here that menopause is a natural phenomenon of the female body and not a disease or illness. The distress ratio is the only aspect that differs from one individual to another. So to get relief from pain or discomfort, the patient may have to seek medical advice. The Internet also has a variety of information on measures and alleviation of menopause.

Allergic symptoms during menopause can cause acne, rosacea, psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis. Some aid donors are different topical medications for the problem. Certain types of seborrhea responds well to antifungal drugs like ketoconazole cream, others respond well to sulfa-based compounds. Some need occasional short courses of cortisone cream. Menopausal women should be careful not to exaggerate the cortisone. This can have harmful side effects if used over an extended period, or if the drug used in the thin skin is too powerful.

Menopause and other allergy problems ranging unexplained episodes of anaphylaxis due to an abnormal response to progesterone which tend to be pre-menopausal, but can occur at any time. The pathogenesis of this disorder is unknown, but laboratory studies suggest that progesterone can induce or basophil histamine release directly or make mast cells more sensitive to other degranulators mast cells.

If you’re someone who suffers from chronic headaches, you know how the pain can sometimes immobilize you and keep you from completing your daily tasks and responsibilities. Since many headaches are caused by built-up tension that we hold in our neck due to our inability to deal with the stress and chaos of our everyday lives, finding a way to deal with the stress that may be causing the headaches is a smart way to deal with them and possibly even prevent future headaches. What is Meditation? – Meditation is an age-old practice of simply quieting the mind of the buzzing thoughts that swirl around throughout the day to find a state of calm serenity. Some people quickly respond, “Meditation doesn’t work for me.” They may feel frustrated because they have not been able to successfully get rid of the swirling thought patterns and instead of finding calm they feel like they are simply chasing their thoughts around. For those people, a more active form of meditation might be in order, such as listening to a guided meditation where the speaker’s voice gently guides your meditation journey, or a walking meditation where you focus on your breath and your steps. But the main goal of meditation is to remove your focus from thought and instead move it inward to focus on the peace and silence within. How Does Meditation Relieve Headaches? – Because meditation brings the body into a thoroughly relaxed state of awareness, it can relieve that excited, adrenaline-fueled pain response, taking the mind off of the pain on a physical, mental and emotional level. Meditation also reduces the anxiety and elevated blood pressure associated with pain. As an efficient way to handle the stress of daily life, cultivating a daily meditation practice can prevent headaches by maintaining your overall well-being, a sense of calm and the ability to keep all of your priorities in perspective. How Do I Get Started With Meditation? – You’ll want to find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed for a while. Wear soft, loose, comfortable clothing. You can meditate either laying flat on your back with your spine straight, or sitting up with your legs folded in front of you. If you are not accustomed to sitting in this position, you might want to use a meditation cushion to support your bottom. Light a candle and play soft music unless you are listening to a guided meditation. Do not go into the experience with any expectations. No matter the outcome, you cannot fail at meditation! Where Can I Find Meditation Resources? – You can find lots of free meditation resources if you do a search at your favorite search engine. You can download free meditation music and guided meditation audios. Visit your favorite bookstore or your local library to find books and CDs on meditation if you’d like to develop a regular meditation practice. In addition to relieving the pain of headaches, meditation can improve your overall sense of wellness and better equip you to handle the pressure of life.

Those that suffer from a constant barrage of headaches (the tension headache being the most common form of headache), as well as those that suffer from the less common migraine headache (which can be very debilitating) know all to well how much of a negative impact the headache pain can have on your quality of life.

What Causes Headaches

The medical establishment believes that headaches are caused by the inflammation of the blood vessels that lie on the brain which leads to a painful pulsation of the blood vessels. The pain can also be accompanied by tightness or pressure around the head and neck.

Though the causes of headaches is not well understood what is understood is that headaches do not occur in a vacuum, but are a result of certain triggers. These triggers bring on the headache and depending on your state of being the severity of a headache can be mild or quite severe.

Some of the most common headache triggers are sensitivity to certain foods, that contain caffeine, dairy products, chocolate, food preservatives… There are also many household products in common use that can trigger a headache or migraine episode. One of the biggest headache triggers though is plain old stress; and when our bodies reach a certain stress level a headache takes shape.

Now stress manifest itself in many different forms. As an example let’s say you work at a computer which is not uncommon for many people in our modern technological society. If you are not setting correctly at your computer or your computer workstation is not ergonomically set up after several hours of working in a stressful position due to poor posture, eyestrain or poor keyboard placement a headache can result.

Often we don’t consider this since it’s something we do everyday, but if you look back and analyze just how many headaches your getting due to how you work or on what you eat you can begin to track what is triggering your headaches or migraines.

Other things that can effect you getting headaches are poor lighting conditions, lack of proper oxygen intake, for instance I once worked in the service department of a auto-dealership and when a mechanic failed to properly vent the exhaust from a car he was working on I would get a massive splitting headache that would just lay me out. Needless to say it got to point in which I just had to quit the job, because carbon monoxide was my trigger.

Other triggers that can bring on a headache and migraine are lack of eating. How many times have you put off eating something because you just wanted to finish what you were doing or just get that all important job done and found yourself after a hard days work with a headache as your reward.

Do you over medicate? Some time we over due it with over-the-counter medications and this can be bad for you sometimes very bad. In certain situations is known that over medicating can lead to the occurrence of headaches.

Also it has been noted by medical professional that lack of physical fitness is itself a cause for getting more headaches than the general population may get. So the better your physical conditioning the less headaches your bound to get if your headaches or migraines are not of a result an underlying disease.

Headache Pain Relief

So the question your probably asking is how due I get headache pain relief when I get a headache. Though this is an important and vital question what you should be asking is what I can due to prevent in getting a headache or migraine in the first place. From the above discussion you should:

Determine if your headaches or migraines are being caused by foods your are eating.

Chemicals that you may be exposed to at home and at work.

If working for long hours, are you working comfortably. Are breaking up that rigid routine.

Consider if your working on optimum conditions or poor conditions.

Are you exercising to be as fit as you possible can.

Are you minimizing the stress you have in your daily routine as much as possible

Are you eating a well balanced meal.

Are you resting sufficiently – As lack of sleep is also a headache or migraine trigger.

Now once you get a headache theirs very little you can do to get rid except take other-counter-medications like aspirin, ibuprofen… or take one of several herbal formulations such as Henna, Cinnamon, Marjoram or Rosemary that are available for such things.

The drawback here is that you if you don’t have pain relievers available your out of luck, while access to herbal remedies need to be prepared and applied properly for them to be beneficial.

You can also try using acupressure, of course this requires that you learn how to acupressure and how and when to apply such techniques.

You can try to relax, take a break from what your doing for a while. You can try neck and temple message. If possible take a few minutes in a relaxed position with your eyes closed resting your head comfortably on a pillow.

The best way to deal with headaches is to think pro-actively and examine your lifestyle. But if you do get a headache and want to get rid of it fast this 30 Second Headache Pain Relief Technique may work for you.
