If headache pain is a frequent problem for you, there are ways to help prevent them. Many headache sufferers have reported success with natural, homeopathic products, relaxation techniques, and the use of aromatherapy essential oils.

Aromatherapy may seem a little “out there” but think of how the human brain works with the olfactory senses, more commonly known as the sense of smell. It’s logical to trust that if a smell can touch off a headache, it may then also be quite effective in their prevention. There are specific aromas which are quite effective for calming nerves and reducing tension. The delicate scents of vanilla and lavender are calming to the mind and brain. They’re found in numerous bath products labeled for use in soothing and calming both tension and stress.

Peppermint oil also demonstrates potential in producing good results for preventing headache pain. Vicks Salve applied to the forehead was a tried-and-true method of addressing severe headaches for many people in years past and is still a good remedy to try for that stubborn, painful throbbing.

Medical acupuncture is undergoing a popularity surge for its ability to control various types of physical pain, including headaches. Scientific research has shown that it is a legitimate therapy for treating both headache and migraine pain. Dental pain and nausea have also been shown to respond favorably to acupuncture treatment. More research and medical studies are needed to prove this is the perfect treatment for headache pain.

Physical exercise is underestimated as it pertains to prevention of headaches. Headaches are frequently induced by tension and stress and therefore physical exercise is a terrific way to relieve those problems before the pain begins. Prior to starting any form of exercise, it is best to contact your doctor or medical professional to choose the right exercise program for you and your health situation.

Begin slowly on any exercise regimen if you do not already exercise regularly. Take a brisk walk around the block, spend several minutes on the treadmill, or do some simple stretching routines. You shouldn’t exercise to the point of exhaustion or pain. Always pay attention to what your body is telling you – it knows when it’s had enough and needs to rest.

Studies show that some headache patients who undergo chiropractic manipulation have had good results in preventing their headaches. Complications, although rare, can arise as a result of chiropractic manipulation and may include the possibility of stroke from the manipulation of the neck. To be safe, consult your doctor before undergoing chiropractic manipulation, especially if you have high risk factors for stroke.

Herbal and nutritional remedies such as vitamin B12 and magnesium are also quite effective in headache prevention for some people. Normally, results are not seen until a person has taken the supplements for at least three months.

Food and drinks which are high in caffeine should be avoided by anyone who experiences frequent headache pain. Switching to caffeine-free soda, coffee, or tea may diminish the frequency of headaches. Keeping a food and headache diary can be crucial in determining your personal headache triggers. This diary will help you identify specific food and drink triggers, as well as environmental and stress causes, so you can avoid those in order to help prevent recurrence of headache pain.

The prevention of headaches may prove to be easier than treating them once they have begun. Exercise at least three days a week, keep your diary, and watch your diet. Steer clear of foods which trigger headaches and take steps to help reduce the stress and tension in your life.

Spend a little extra time and take a relaxing bath with sweet-smelling bubble bath, calming essential oils such as lavender and/or chamomile, or bath salts. Light a candle with a soothing scent and lay back for a few moments with your eyes closed. Relax!

Article by Jake Rhodes

A study in 2007 found that during the course of a year 90% of people will suffer from a headache at least once. Besides the obvious pain in the head and neck region, headaches can also cause nausea, dizziness, blurred vision and loss of balance. Fortunately the vast majority of headaches aren’t symptoms of a more serious problem. Only 1% of people who visit ER suffering from headaches actually have a deeper seated health concern.

There are many well known cures and remedies for headaches but one that is not so commonly known is hypnosis. Historical evidence shows that people as far back as those of Ancient Egypt used hypnosis as an effective form of pain relief and it is still being used to this very day.

More recent scientific research has confirmed that hypnosis does indeed work as a “pain blocker”. Brain scans were taken of volunteers who had been hypnotized (as well as a control group who had not) and then made to suffer pain from a source of heat. Those who had been hypnotized had less activity in the pain sensors of the brain. This means that hypnosis actually blocks pain signals from reaching the brain. In the last few years people have even been using hypnosis as an anesthetic in surgeries with great success.

Now I’m sure that you can already imagine how hypnosis can be used to cure a headache but there is also another reason why it is so powerful at alleviating the pain. The majority of headaches are caused by stress and tension, particularly around the neck and shoulders. You may have rolled your neck around to help release some of the pain of a headache, if so you know this to be true. Well hypnosis is also a remarkably great way to relax and loosen muscles.

Although there are some differences, hypnosis is very similar to a deep state of relaxation. Typically you are lead or sat down, while the hypnotherapists guides you through a hypnotic induction. This induction often comes in the form of deep breathing exercises or progressive muscle relaxation. After this comes a deepener (just to make sure the client is properly hypnotized) and then a series of hypnotic suggestions. These suggestions can be about whatever you want, the hypnotherapist will cater for your needs. You may just simply want to relax and unwind, or perhaps you’d like to take part in a creative visualization exercise such as swimming with dolphins.

Hypnosis is actually quite an inexpensive headache remedy too. You may think that hiring a hypnotherapist every time you have a headache would be expensive…and you’d be right. However now you can find hypnosis sessions on MP3s at a fraction of the cost, these also hold the advantage that once you have paid once you can listen to the session over and over again at no extra cost. In the long run this will actually be cheaper than buying bottles of aspirin!

So next time you feel a headache coming on don’t reach for a bottle of pills. Try hypnosis, the natural remedy for headache relief.

Menopause symptoms are caused by fluctuating hormone levels in the female reproductive system and these can be very irritating however 70% of women bear these symptoms while approaching menopause but their effect can be reduced if not completely avoided by using natural remedies. Generally menopause symptoms start to show up in the age around 40, this stage is called pre-menopause and gradually these symptoms get more and more intense as woman gets closer to menopause.

Some common symptoms of menopause are hot and cold flashes, these are sudden and passing waves of heat or warmth experienced in the body and in some cases may even cause redness on face and upper body. Night sweating is also experienced by most of the women in which woman perspires heavily in the night while asleep. These two symptoms generally accompany each other. Vaginal dryness is another symptom associated with menopause causing atrophy of female genitals making it rough and thin. This can also make genitals prone to yeast and bacterial infections.

Irregular menstrual cycle is common symptom of menopause where a female sometimes have very short period of bleeding and on another cycle may have heavy bleeding. In some cases woman skip periods and do not have any bleeding on date. Mood swings are also evident as a woman approaches menopause these mood swings are temporary but make the behavior of the woman very unstable.

Hair loss, loss of concentration, memory lapses can happen to any person but if accompanied by other symptoms of menopause are caused due to hormonal fluctuations in the body of female. Fatigue, dizziness, weight gain, incontinence and brittle nails can be symptoms of many medical conditions and they can be evident in woman approaching menopause too. Some other related symptoms of menopause are change in body odor, more severe headaches, breast pain or softness, aching joints etc but these symptoms alone are not clear evidence of menopause unless accompanied by other symptoms too.

These are the most common natural menopause remedies:

Black Cohosh

Black cohosh is a herb that can effectively treat menopause symptoms such as hot flashes, inability to sleep (insomnia) and anxiety. It is considered as one of the most effective menopause remedies and can be taken by boiling its roots and making a tea out of it. Most commonly, it is taken as an oral supplement because finding a Black Cohosh would be difficult.

Ginseng

Apart from being known to be effective in treating and preventing other known diseases, ginseng has also been known to treat menopausal symptoms such as headaches and insomnia. It can be taken as a beverage (tea) or can be taken in capsule forms. It is one of the known effective menopause remedies that’s why it is most often used even as an alternative to coffee and other common beverages, or included as an ingredient in many beverages nowadays.

St. John’s Wort

Pharmacologically, St. John’s Wort is used to treat depression. Since menopause can also contribute to emotional instabilities, it may lead to a person being depressed. In this light, St. John’s Wort is also used to treat menopause related depression and mood swings.

Red Clover

Red Clover is known as a popular menopause remedy because it mimics the actions of estrogen, the hormone of women. Estrogen, as we all know, is responsible for the woman’s secondary sex characteristics. This hormone also falls short when menopause happens. Since red clove contains phytoestrogens, it lets the body adapt to the decline of the said hormone and relieves headaches, night sweats and the like. It also lessens the possibility of having breast cancer.

Vitamins and Minerals

Since the body’s essential hormones start to decline with the onset of menopause, some menopause remedies may come in the form of vitamins and minerals like Vitamin A, C and E to keep our skin healthy and most importantly Calcium since Calcium and Estrogen have similar actions. This is also one reason why women who are already in the menopausal stage are prone to developing osteoporosis.

There are many different causes of headaches, but the two main types are tension and migraine. The triggers and treatments of the two share some characteristics, but are not alike.

Tension headaches usually result from tension in the muscles of the face, scalp, neck or shoulders in response to anxiety or stress. The muscles squeeze the nerves and constrict the blood supply which causes pain and pressure.

Tension can be triggered by eyestrain, grinding of teeth, too much light or noise, poor posture, stress, among other things. The pain is usually dull and steady… feels as if there is a band squeezing the head, and usually accompanied with tension in the neck and shoulders.

Migraine headaches throb when blood vessels in the head expand more than normal, usually in response to food allergies, hormonal changes, stress, among other things.

Migraines are typically characterized by pounding, throbbing, debilitating pain on one side of the head, with or without visual disturbances and sometimes accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Migraine pain can last for hours or days.

Natural Remedies For Tension Headaches

1. Self massage and acupressure can help. There are two key points for reducing the pain. The first being the web between the forefinger and thumb. Squeeze there until you feel pain. The second point is under the bony ridges at the back of the neck. Using both thumbs apply pressure.

2. Sleeping on your stomach or in an awkward position can cause the muscles in your neck to contract and trigger a headache. Sleeping on your back with a rolled towel under your neck helps.

3. Give your face and scalp a workout. Make intense faces by raising your eyebrows, squinting your eyes, frowning, yawning and wrinkling your nose. Squeeze quickly, hold briefly, then relax.

4. Soon as you feel the tension in your temples, sip on a cup of herbal white willow bark tea. It contains the active ingredient in aspirin – salicylic acid. Using one teaspoon of dried willow bark to one cup of boiling water, let steep for five to ten minutes, strain and sip while it is warm.

5. For fast relief, simply rub a 10% peppermint oil solution into the temples and forehead along with a dose of acetaminophen. The combination of the two will bring relief faster.

6. Relaxation of the neck and shoulder muscles is the best way to relieve tension headaches. Learning to relax the trapezius muscles reduces the intensity and duration of a headache by half.

7. If you rely on over the counter medicine you can cause headache rhythms that can only be controlled by increasing the doses. Long term use of these medicines on a regular basis makes you vulnerable to “rebound” potential. Not to mention that they may cause nausea and other side effects that may be worse than the headache.

8. Evening primrose oil helps to dilate the blood vessels easing tension headaches. Take 500 milligram capsules two to three times a day.

9. Skullcap helps ease tension headaches. Drink up to 3 cups of tea daily OR use commercial supplements following package directions. Skullcap is best taken after a meal.

Natural Remedies For Migraine Headaches

1. Tying a cloth around your head (headband style) will decrease blood flow to the scalp and lessen the throbbing and pounding of a migraine.

2. Many migraine and tension headaches stem from a slight deficiency of magnesium. If this is your cause, magnesium oxide supplements should bring relief. Take 250 to 400 milligram doses, three times a day. Start low and increase as needed. **NOTE** Magnesium supplements should not be taken by anyone with kidney trouble.

3. Feverfew may reduce frequency and intensity of headaches. Take 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of fluid extract three times daily -OR- take tablets or capsules following package directions.

4. Ginger is an anti-inflammatory agent that can be effective for treating a migraine. Take 500 milligram capsules 4 times a day -OR- 100 to 200 milligrams of standardized extract 3 times a day for prevention or every two hours (no more than 6 times a day) to treat acute migraines.

5. Valerian reduces stress and eases headache pain. Make a decoction using 2 teaspoons dried root in 8 ounces of boiling water. Simmer for 10 minutes. Drink 1 cup daily as needed.

6. SAMe may help in the prevention of a migraine, however, long term treatment is required for significant benefits. Use a commercial product following package directions. Be patient, it may take up to six weeks before results are apparent.

7. 5-HTP raises serotonin levels and helps relieve headaches. Several studies have shown excellent results with 5-HTP in the treatment of both tension and migraine headaches. Take 100 to 200 milligrams three times daily.

When To Get Help

Headaches can be warning signs of serious health problems; such as, meningitis, encephalitis or brain abnormalities.

If a headache follows a head injury or immediately after a sudden cough or sneeze, occurs each morning along with nausea or accompanied by fever, stiff neck, lethargy or vomiting, call the doctor.

Also call the doctor if headaches become more severe over time or occur once a week or more, have changed location or are accompanied by neurological symptoms such as numbness, dizziness, blurred vision or memory loss.

Headaches have got to be hands down one of the most frustrating, irritating, and aggravating things to go through. Almost everyone has them, and almost no one knows how to get rid of them. A big part of this is that headaches are almost always a symptom of a more complex underlying problem, which can be difficult to diagnose and treat. Because of this, it is extremely difficult (but possible) to permanently heal your headaches. Here are a few incredibly simple, but super effective headache healing remedies you can use to quickly get rid of your pain.

Headache Healing Remedies…

1. Turn down the light – especially if your headaches are more serious migraines, it is extremely likely that they are light sensitive. This simply means that bright lights make your headaches worse, like when you have a hangover. While this may seem simple, turning down the lights will prevent your headache from getting worse. It will also allow you to relax a little bit and prevent a tension headache from forming. Even if your headaches are not light sensitive it will at least allow you to relax a little bit and concentrate on something else.

2. Switch to decaf- even if you only have a small amount of caffeine daily your body can become chemically depended on it. This simply means that your body will expect the same amount of caffeine at the same time or you will experience withdrawal symptoms. This type of headache, commonly called a caffeine headache is almost impossible to correct, and if the headache is a caffeine headache the only way to heal it is to have more caffeine. Obviously, if you stop drinking caffeine your body will no longer be addicted to it. However, you will have to suffer through two or three days of these headaches before you are rid of them for good.

3. Don’t eat late at night – I’m guilty of this one at least 4 times a week, I’ll admit it. However, if you get headaches (or have trouble sleeping), eating late at night is a terrible idea. This is because when you eat late at night, your body tries to digest the food while you are trying to sleep. Energy that is usually directed into recuperating your brain and your body during your sleep is instead used to digest your food. Because of this, you don’t sleep as well and you don’t feel as rested when you wake up. So, cut out the late night snacks and see if it helps your morning headaches.

These are just a few of the literally hundreds of ways how to heal your headaches. I prefer these particular headache healing remedies because they are simple, free, and quickly show results. Try one at a time and see how much your headaches fade, I think that you will be pleasantly surprised. After you implement all 3, I think that you’ll find that you are a much more rested and alert person during the day. Worst case scenario you get a little bit healthier, so don’t waste any more time. Start implementing these remedies and get rid of those annoying headaches for good!

Chronic headache, or chronic daily headache (CDH) are defined as headaches that occur more than 15 days per month for longer than 3 months. Chronic daily headache is not a diagnosis but a category that contains many disorders representing primary and secondary headaches. The primary headaches include migraine, tension-type, and cluster headaches. The prolonged or very frequent headaches are usually known as the chronic headaches. Secondary headaches are caused by medical conditions, such as infection or increased pressure in the skull due to a growing tumor. These account for a very small percentage of all headaches.

Many treatments and technique are available, both to relieve and prevent these headaches pain. All these treatments depending on which type of headache you have. The medications known to play a role in treatment headches such as analgesics, Beta blockers, antidepressant and Injections of anesthetics. These medications do not cure headaches completely and just give the timely relief. There are numerous side effects with these medications and if you use these medications in a frequent manner and for a longer period of time, they will lose their necessary effect. To be on the safe side, there are many natural alternatives for pain relief which are quite effective:

1. Stress management and relaxation techniques: Meditation, Hypnosis, Biofeedback, and Yoga. Some people get relief by reaching a state of near hypnosis using meditation or what some people call self-hypnosis. Biofeedback can be learned in a few easy sessions. Practitioners of Yoga know a few positions that can relieve a variety of headaches.

2. Drinking plenty of water. Headaches happen to be one of the best indicators of dehydration. You need to drink at least eight glasses of water to help keep you in optimum health and lessen the onset of some headaches.

3. Massage. Firm massage of the forehead, neck, and scalp has been reported to help relieve a headache. Massage is a great weapon to relieve stress.

4. Acupuncture. Acupuncture is based in part on the premise that blood and energy termed Qi (pronounced chee) circulate in a cyclical fashion through these meridians. This energy flow is required for good health. may relieve some of the symptoms of your tension-type headache by helping to reduce tension in your muscles.

5. Apply an ice pack. Wrap an ice pack in a dry towel, and apply the cloth to your forehead in 10- to 20-minute intervals. Cold therapy reduces inflammation and relaxes tense muscles.

6. Diet

Changing your diet is probably the easiest way to avoid and remedy headaches, as it only takes simple changes and is primarily in your control.

-Avoid Caffeine. Caffeine is a widely used substance that comes not only in coffee, but also tea, chocolate, certain medications and soft drinks. When used regularly, a caffeine dependency can form and withdrawing the substance may lead to severe headaches.

- Avoid tyramine. Tyramine is a substance in certain foods that appears after the breakdown of protein. Sensitivity to tyramine may cause acute headaches. Foods high in tyramine include aged cheese, Vinegar (relish, salad dressings, sauces, catsup), Organ meats (kidney liver), alcoholic beverages (especially red wine), Sour Cream, Soy sauce, Yogurt, some processed meats, Yeast extracts pickles, onions, olives, fava beans, raisins, nuts, avocados, canned soups.

- Avoid Food preservatives or additives. Food preservatives (or additives) contained in certain foods can trigger headaches. Many foods contain certain additives like artificial flavors, colors, or sweeteners, which may be the culprits behind nasty headaches. These additives may change the amount of blood flow to the brain and trigger a headache. Certain food additives, including Monosodium Glutamatem, aspartame, saccharin, nuts, hot dogs, ham, sausage, bacon, luncheon meats, chinese foods, soups, dressings, mayonnaise, frozen foods or potato chips.

- Reduce your salt intake. too much salt can and does cause headaches.

7. Try some Aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is an ancient healing art that has been used to treat and cure stress headaches for ages. It works well whether you are using massage oils or inhaling the different herbal oils. Using aromatherapy to treat headaches is nothing new as this method of healing has been around for centuries.

8. Reflexology. Reflexology is touted as a treatment for all sorts of ailments, and clinical studies seem to confirm its effectiveness for some, including headaches. Use the thumb and index finger of one hand to apply pressure to the fleshy area between the thumb and index finger of the other hand. Hold this for a minute or two. This doesn’t seem to work for everyone, but for some people, this provides immediate relief. The relief may be temporary, or you may get rid of your headache entirely.

9. Remove yourself from the trigger. If you think you know what triggered your headache or, alternately, what’s aggravating it, avoid that thing. If it’s stress, for example, remove yourself from the stressful situation and try to relax. If the sun’s bright light is aggravating your headache, go inside or put on some sunglasses. You can’t get away from some triggers, such as a food that you already ate, but you can avoid them in the future.

10. Consult your doctor or chiropractor if you get frequent, long-lasting, or very severe headaches. Most tension headaches cause mild to moderate pain and go away on their own fairly quickly, even in the absence of treatment. These are known as episodic tension headaches. Chronic tension headaches, on the other hand, can last for days, weeks, or even longer. These often require special treatment and, sometimes, prescription medications. Other types of headaches, including migraine headaches and cluster headaches, can also be longer-lasting and can cause excruciating pain.

Finally, it’s important to note that frequent or severe headaches may be symptoms of another illness or disorder. If you experience frequent or severe headaches, or headaches that are accompanied by other symptoms, such as nausea, vision problems, or dizziness, you might want to make an appointment with your doctor to get an accurate diagnosis and effective treatments. Headaches can be a sign of many different things, always consult your health care provider for any health care concerns you may have.

Headache (cephalalgia in medical terminology) is a condition of pain in the head; sometimes neck or upper back pain may also be interpreted as a headache. Headaches are benign and self-limiting. Common causes are tension, migraine, eye strain, dehydration and sinusitis. Much rarer are headaches due to life-threatening conditions such as meningitis, encephalitis, cerebral aneurysms, and brain tumors. Headache, like chest pain or dizziness, has many causes. There are five types of headache: vascular, myogenic (muscle tension), cervicogenic, traction, and inflammatory. Vascular headache is migraine. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head, an upset stomach, and, for some people, disturbed vision. It is more common in women. While vascular changes are evident during a migraine, the cause of the headache is neurologic, not vascular. After migraine, the most common type of vascular headache is the “toxic” headache produced by fever.

Cluster headaches, which cause repeated episodes of intense pain, and headaches resulting from high blood pressure (rare). Muscular/myogenic headaches appear to involve the tightening or tensing of facial and neck muscles; they may radiate to the forehead. Tension headache is the most common form of myogenic headache. Cervicogenic headaches originate from disorders of the neck, including the anatomical structures innervated by the cervical roots C1–C3. Cervical headache is often precipitated by neck movement and/or sustained awkward head positioning. Tension headaches tend to be on both sides of your head. They often start at the back of your head and spread forward. The pain may feel dull or squeezing, like a tight band or vice. Your shoulders, neck, or jaw may feel tight and sore.

It is often accompanied by restricted cervical range of motion, ipsilateral neck, shoulder, or arm pain of a rather vague non-radicular nature or, occasionally, arm pain of a radicular nature. Traction and inflammatory headaches are symptoms of other disorders, ranging from stroke to sinus infection. Mostly causing secondary headaches including is Tumors in the brain, including tumors that have spread (metastasized) to the brain from another organ such as the lung or breast.Subdural hematomas, which are collections of blood underneath the dura (the covering of the brain) due to bleeding from ruptured veins. Subdural hematomas typically occur in elderly individuals after a fall or other trauma to the head. Sometimes the fall can precede the visit to the doctor by weeks, and the elderly patients may not even recall the fall.

Symptoms of subdural hematomas include chronic headaches, change in personality, and weakness of the extremities. Epidural hematomas, which are rapid collections of blood due to the rupture of arteries that run on the inner surface of the skull. Epidural hematomas usually are the result of skull fractures. The typical story is a head injury that causes a concussion with loss of consciousness and a skull fracture. The return of consciousness is followed by the sudden development of coma caused by an expanding hematoma.Infections such as meningitis caused by bacteria (meningococcus and pneumococcus). Hypothyroidism, a condition in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. Medications such as indomethacin, estrogen, progestins, calcium channel blockers (commonly used for treating high blood pressure), and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (commonly used to treat depression)

Most of us get the occasional headache and it’s no big deal. A bit uncomfortable, but a couple of aspirin will fix you up. Migraine headaches are another story. If you’ve ever had one, you know you never want to have another. The trouble is, some people are afflicted with frequent migraines, and nothing seems to help. Well, here’s some good news for those of you who suffer from migraines. There are a number of herbs, singly and in combinations that provide you with effective and, in some cases, preventative migraine headache remedies. Take a look at some of the best.

One of the most reliable and well researched migraine headache remedies is feverfew, a herb with a proven clinical track record and widely used in Europe as a preventative for migraine attacks. The active constituent is effective against chemicals in the brain which dilate blood vessels and which cause migraines. Feverfew, like many herbs, are slow to act, and must be used for a couple of months before the effects are felt. Please note that feverfew is a preventative, but won’t help relieve pain once an attack is already underway.

Many independent clinical studies have concluded that daily use of feverfew as a migraine headache remedy does indeed prevent migraine attacks. Included in the double-blind studies were patients who had used feverfew as a preventative for years. Those who were given a placebo in place of their regular dose of feverfew experienced a resurgence of migraine attacks, suffering frequent and severe migraines. Those provided with the regular dose of feverfew remained migraine free for the six month period of testing.

Feverfew is not recommended for pregnant or nursing mothers.

Another of the natural migraine headache remedies is ginger tea, particularly suited to ongoing migraines situated in the front of the head. Taken at the onset of an attack, ginger tea will provide relief in as little as 30 minutes. Continued use of ginger tea, consumed six times each day results in fewer and less severe attacks. Ginger tea is also fragrant and tasty!

Other effective migraine headache remedies you may want to try include the following:

Kava Kava, native to the South Pacific, has been used for centuries for its relaxing properties, useful in cases of stress related migraines.

Valerian root is another of the migraine headache remedies useful in stress induced headaches. Valerian may act as a preventative if your migraines are stress related. Valerian root is a powerful relaxant, so use discretion when driving or operating machinery.

If your migraines are characterized by insomnia or irregular menstrual cycles, Jamaican dogwood may be one of your migraine headache remedies of choice.

Chamomile tea is a good preventative among the better migraine headache remedies.

Lavender oil, rubbed across the forehead and temples, eases pain and spasms.

If you suffer from migraines, try some of these natural headache remedies. A knowledgeable herbalist may have other headache remedies not discussed here which will bring you the relief you need.

Headaches can afflict almost everyone at some time or the other. Headaches are caused by temporary upsets, and are not related to any organic changes in the brain. The most common symptoms of headache are aches and tightness around head, behind the eyes, and neck, depression or excitation and blurring of visions.

There are two general types of headache: primary and secondary. Primary headaches include tension, migraine, and cluster headaches, which are not caused by any underlying medical condition. Nearly 90% of all headaches that occur are primary. Secondary headaches usually occur because of an underlying disease or illness like brain tumor. These account for a very small percentage of all headaches.

The side effects when taking the recommended standardized feverfew herbal remedy is minimal and there are no major problems associated with the remedy. Some of the more prominent and minor side effects can include problems with the gastrointestinal tract and sudden nervousness or irritability in the patient. Feverfew is not recommended during pregnancy or breast-feeding and should not be used by children under the age of two years.

9. Butterbur

Butterbur (Petasites hybridus) has been used to treat allergies, bronchial asthma, headache, pain, and muscle and urinary tract spasms.

Nowadays there is a huge amount of migraine headache treatment available to help you deal with the pain. Of course it’s a good thing in a certain way to know that there are a lot of options to help you with your situation. On the other hand it can get very frustrating and extremely confusing. With so many choices it’s difficult to know which ones are working and which ones are not even worth trying.

There are various factors you should be aware of before deciding which migraine treatment you are going to take. The most common of all and probably the most important is that you need to be aware of the fact that not all treatment work at the same degree on all people. This is crucial.

The Various Migraine headache treatments

When it comes to migraine or headache treatments, there are two main options for you to choose from. Of course each of those options contains a wide variety of treatments. You can either go naturally or more traditional, in other words natural treatment or pills. This is the first step you will need to take in your research for a good headache treatment.

If you decide to go the natural way you will then have to resort to natural ingredients only. In our case this means mostly herbs and spices. Of course there is a wide variety of headache home treatment that can help you with your migraines and headaches. One of the most commonly used would be the use of green tea.

If you decide to try the green tea solution, all you need to do is to prepare yourself a cup of green tea and drink it black. The antioxidant in the tea and of course the tea itself is very good to relieve the pain that is caused by headaches and migraines.

On the other hand if you choose to go the more traditional way for your migraine headache treatment then again you have many options. Basically here is the general principle for this kind of headache treatment. You will start with a lower dosage of medication or pills. If this dosage does not help you reduce the pain caused by the headaches then your doctor will most likely prescribe you something stronger.

Of course this process can get extremely frustrating and difficult for you. For some people it seems like whatever they try, the migraines and/or headaches just won’t go away. In those moments you should try to calm yourself and avoid getting frustrated. Just remember that there is a wide variety of migraine headache treatment out there to help you get rid of the pain. One day or another you will find the one that helps you.

Everybody has definitely experienced a headache once in his or her lifetime. Since it is one of the indispensable and common illnesses everyone experiences, people have learned to find ways to relieve the discomfort brought by headache.

REMEDYING HEADACHES

Headaches are usually caused by physical and emotional stress. If you are dying to find a solution to your persistent headache, try taking in over the counter remedies like aspirin, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen. But if you are not a big fan of prescribed or over the counter medications, try these home remedies for a change.

- Try using compresses or cold packs. For tension headaches-the most common form of headache-try applying a warm or cold compress to your forehead and the base of your neck to numb the pain.

- Try using heat. If cold compresses wouldn’t work out for you, try using a warm washcloth or a hot water bottle can ease pain.

- Develop a routine of deep breathing exercises. If you suffer from headaches very often, try sitting in a darkened room, take in deep breaths using your nose, and let it pass through your mouth.

- Experience the wonders of acupressure. By squeezing the web of skin between and the thumb through acupressure, it can reduce the pains and can help you relax.

- Try relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga, and biofeedback. By trying these relaxation techniques, the person who suffers from headache can feel the pain flowing out of the head. It can also help reduce stress.

- Relieve the affected area by applying ointment with heat. Ben-Gay or Icy Hot rubbed on forehead or on the base of the neck, can give a soothing warm feeling to your head.

- The power of music. Try listening to a relaxing music while lying down or resting.

- Exercise regularly. Physical activities like regular exercise can relieve stress because it can loosen up the knots and balls of pain in your head.

- Get enough sleep. Having six to eight hours of sleep can help you soothe your tired nerves. But, beware of sleeping more than 10 hours because it can cause major headache as well.

- If possible, use a neck pillow in bed. If you are prone to experiencing morning headaches, try using a neck pillow to your neck while you sleep.

- Totally eliminate caffeine, salt, MSG, and chocolate in your diet. Load up on lots of fruits, veggies, and water to keep your body well hydrated.

- If you can, avoid bright light because it leads to a major headache once your squint.

- Don’t skip meals. Skipping meals can lead to low blood sugar. When your sugar level goes down, your blood vessels in the brain tightens that leads to headache.

- Don’t eat foods that have nitrates, sulfites, and msg because these are primary headache causers. Also avoid aged cheeses and nuts so you won’t experience headaches.

- Don’t smoke and avoid smoke-filled rooms.

Many people are beginning to try natural remedies for their headaches. The reason for this is because many want to discontinue the medication cycle for dealing with headaches. Many are tired of only diminishing the pain or discomfort of a headache by swallowing pills, doing nasal sprays or using injections. This doesn’t mean chronic headache sufferers are addicted to their medicines, it merely means that doctors typically offer medications as the treatment option for headaches. For this reason alternatives are actively being sought by those who suffer from headaches.

One of the first alternatives a person can try is exercise. Many times this doesn’t seem like a good option since when you have headache all you want to do is sleep in a quiet and dark room. Although some deal better with the pain by doing light exercise, anything that isn’t loud or high impact. A good option to try is taking a walk for thirty minutes whenever you feel a migraine coming. Your bodies natural painkillers will often kick in with a little exercise.

Another option is having someone give you a massage when a headache starts. Ask someone you feel comfortable with to massage your shoulders and neck. Use the massage as an opportunity to lie on your stomach and become completely relaxed. Others have suggested that a quick way to get rid of a headache is to massage either your feet or the spot between your thumb and first finger. If you suffer from headaches it can be useful to try these simple methods. This way if it works you will have something useful to do next time.

Hot and cold are two of the most common headache home remedies. Each person needs to experiment and find a temperature that will work for them. Some find cold ice packs anywhere on their head will work. Other people may find their headaches go away with heat from either a hot water bottle or a heating pad. Only experimenting can help you find the right solution for your headache.

Another easy and inexpensive relaxation technique you can try to help your headaches is yoga. Meditation is comforting which can help you relax and relieve the pain of your headache. Some people will also increase the levels of minerals they are lacking by using herbs, often times making up for the lack of certain minerals will help relieve headaches.

One headache trigger can often be how much a person does and doesn’t sleep. You can often improve your headaches in this case by improving your sleep routine. If possible try to get to bed at the same time every night and then get up at the same time in the morning. Doing this often improves your sleep and reduces any headaches you might get from oversleeping. In addition, using a buckwheat pillow while you sleep can give you better support and improve your quality of sleep. Your sleep will always improve if you are more comfortable.

If you are suffering from frequent headaches, there is always some medication available over the counter which can help alleviate the pain that they bring. But if you are the type of person not usually keen on taking over the counter drugs, there are also some home remedies that you can try out for your headache.

There is a wealth of ingredients that you can find around your own home that can help you get rid of a nasty headache. Home remedies for your headache help you make use of more natural methods of treating your headaches. Here are some home remedy examples that you can use to treat that headache.

Ginger

The ordinary ginger can help you get rid of your nasty headache. It inhibits a substance known as thromboxane A2 that prevents the release of chemicals that make your blood vessels expand. With this effect, ginger is useful for treating migraines as well as other types of headaches. Eating crystallized ginger or adding some grated ginger in your drink will be enough as a home remedy for your headache. Using fresh or powdered ginger when cooking your food will do just as well.

Essential Oils

Peppermint oil is also a well known home remedy for headache. Just put a couple of drops of this aromatic oil into a carrier oil or lotion and rub around your temple, neck and forehead. But make sure that you do not get any of the oil too close to your eyes as its vapors can be very overwhelming.

You can also place a drop or two of peppermint oil on your handkerchief and sniff it to help you get rid of your headaches. Peppermint oil has been known to relieve headaches caused by too much tension. Rosemary Oil can also be just as effective as a home remedy for headaches. Rosemary oil helps relieve your headaches by helping keep the blood vessels dilated.

Herbal Teas

Herbal teas have also been known to provide headache relief. Peppermint tea and rosemary tea are examples of popular home remedy beverages for your nagging headache. Drinking a cup or two of your favorite peppermint tea will do wonders for your headache. Preparing a teaspoon of rosemary in a cup of hot water and steeped for about 10 minutes will also do as well. Drinking this wonderful concoction three times a day will help you get rid of that headache.

Almost everyone gets headaches. You might feel throbbing in the front of your head during a cold or bout with the flu, for example. Or you might feel pain in your temples or at the back of your head from a tension headache after a busy day. Most regular headaches produce a dull pain around the front, top, and sides of your head, almost like someone stretched a rubber band around it.

Many factors can trigger migraine attacks, such as alteration of sleep-wake cycle; missing or delaying a meal; medications that cause a swelling of the blood vessels; daily or near daily use of medications designed for relieving headache attacks; bright lights, sunlight, fluorescent lights, TV and movie viewing; certain foods; and excessive noise. Stress and/or underlying depression are important trigger factors that can be diagnosed and treated adequately.

For the 10 percent Americans who have migraines a type of headache that produces a severe, throbbing pain on one or both sides of the head and is often accompanied by nausea, dizziness, sensitivity to light and sound, and visual disturbances they can be disruptive and debilitating.

Migraine characteristics can include:

• Pain typically on one side of the head
• Pain has a pulsating or throbbing quality
• Moderate to intense pain affecting daily activities
• Nausea or vomiting
• Sensitivity to light or sound
• Attacks last four to 72 hours, sometimes longer
• Visual disturbances or aura
• Exertion such as climbing stairs makes headache worse

Primary headaches affect quality of life. Some people have occasional headaches that resolve quickly, while others are debilitated. Tension, migraine, and cluster headaches are not life-threatening.

Risk Factors:

• Gender (women are nearly 3 times more likely to get migraines than men)
• Having other family members with migraine headaches
• Being under age 40; migraines tend to diminish as you age
• Taking birth control pills (if your migraines are affected by fluctuations in estrogen levels)
• Exposure and sensitivity to any of the potential triggers listed above

Natural Treatment for Migraine Headache: -

• Enthusiasts claim that fish oil reduces inflammation and works by restricting the blood vessels in your temples. Grasberg said there’s no sound evidence, but he recommends trying it.
• Lemon peel is helpful in solving migraine headache. Grind lemon peel to form a paste and apply it on the forehead. Let it dry and then rinse off with cool water.
• In some cases, migraines appear to run in families. If one of your parents suffered with migraines, there is a good chance that you will get them too.
• Another effective method would be to have chamomile tea. This is effective in reducing the occurrence of migraine.
• Grasberg said this is a practice that’s been done since ancient times, and he’s not sure how it came about, but some people claim it works.
• Don’t smoke. According to the FDA, people who smoke are seven times more likely to get gum disease than nonsmokers. Smoking can also negatively affect some treatments for gum disease.

You Don’t Always Have to Use Medicines as a Headache Remedy

A severe headache disables you to perfume anything. The easiest approach to get rid of this adverse situation is to reach out for painkillers which if not permanently would take it off temporarily. The following are some simple and popular headache remedies, which should help with easing the pain:

1. The commonest cause for the headache is the wrong posture. The wrong posture is mainly responsible for muscular stress, thus, is you mainly maintain a sedentary type of lifestyle, special attention and care should be taken about your sitting and walking postures.

2. The menstruation cycle and sometimes even pregnancy can be a direct cause for headaches. Keeping a good Zinc supplement and taking a diet rich in vitamins would surely help you to get rid of these.

3. Mental stress is one of the major problems in today’s world. The best to way off headache is relaxation. Long body massages and a peaceful and sufficient sleep would rejuvenate your body.

Set up your eating and exercising or meditation time and never deviate from it. For example you may plan to get up at 4 AM, do yoga or exercise until 5:30 or 6:00 am, have breakfast, read the newspaper, enjoy your family and pets and then by 8 am you are out of the house. Stick to this routine and you would experience a great relief from stress and headache.

4. Heat as well as cold compresses relieves headaches. All you need to do is lie down and use a hot or cold compress until the headache leaves you.

5. Drinking water is a great headache reliever. An adult should ordinarily drink some seven to eight glasses of water. Though not proven, it is observed that drinking water might greatly reduce the migraine headaches.

If none of the above works and the headache persists or worsens, it is advisable to see a doctor and follow the prescribed painkillers and mild sedatives which would help you rid your headache away.

A headache paralyzes the entire body. Even a simple task as chatting becomes a behemoth. Here are some home remedies to relieve from the excruciating headache.

Headache is defined as pain in the head that is located above the eyes or the ears, behind the head (occipital), or in the back of the upper neck. Headache is common problem in men and women. The main challenge to affording relief from various forms of “cephalgia,” or “head pain,” is categorizing a headache by type, and then proceeding with the therapy most likely to help.

Causes of Headache:

The most common cause for headache is stress. Taking a break and relaxing would definitely help in reducing the stress. Exact cause of this disease is still yet to get discovered. A lot of experts relate cluster headaches to migraine headaches, believing that both start in the trigeminal nerve. Some associate it with the hypothalamus. Both explanations still do not have a study to back their beliefs, understanding, or opinions about cluster headaches, however both can be accepted in explaining the trait of this type of headache, which is its recurrent nature.

Types of Headaches:

There are two types of headaches: primary headaches and secondary headaches. Primary headaches are not associated with (caused by) other diseases.

Tension headaches are probably the most common type. They are usually caused by tension in the muscles in the neck, shoulders and face. Migraines are much more severe, and affect around 6% of men and 13% of women. These are often more painful and longer lasting than tension headaches. Cluster headaches are also quite severe, and sometimes last for as much as several weeks.

Treatment of Headaches:

- In order to get away with the headache, always remember to drink lots of water. This would avoid your body to get dehydrated and electrolytes in water such as Gatorade or PowerAde further more helps in quicker hydration of your body.

- Exercise is another great way to avoid the pain. The best-suited exercise would be the one, which is less stressful. A more relaxing type such as yoga or Pilates would be a great remedy.

- A good long relaxing bath also works wonders in getting relief from stress related headache situations. Adding light some scented candles with essential oils such as lavender would add to the relaxation and soothe the senses.

- Anti-inflammatories may be more effective than paracetamol for some people.Taking a painkiller such as paracetamol usually works well to relieve a tension-type headache.

- Acupuncture is an effective treatment for chronic headaches.

- Apply pressure to the area where your thumb and index finger connect. Apply as much pressure as you can stand for a minute or so.

- Another acupressure treatment is to apply pressure with your index finger to the natural indent right above your eyebrow (right above the outer corner of your eye).

- Having someone massage your scalp, neck and shoulders can also be very effective at relieving the stress on your muscles, which in turn relieves the tension headaches that many have after a hard day.

- Alternating hot and cold compresses on the head also works well to reduce the swelling inside the head that causes many headaches.

- Sometimes gently pulling on your hair will help to reduce pressure and pain.
