<p>The exact cause of cluster headaches is unknown. There are a number of possible theories that are being investigated within the medical community, but they remain unproven. The condition is rare, and as such it is often difficult to obtain enough data on these headaches to make any significant analysis of the condition. What is known is that men are several times more likely to experience a cluster headache than women are, and that the majority of attacks occur at night, shortly after the sufferer has fallen asleep. </p>
<p>Distinct changes in a person&#8217;s everyday life, most particularly their sleeping patterns, seem to be likely to bring on a cluster headache attack, indicating that a person&#8217;s natural rhythm may be somehow responsible for a cluster headache. <p>Thanks to new research crossing the disciplines of psychology, medicine, neuroscience, and genetics, the mechanisms underlying the connection are rapidly becoming understood. </p>

<p>The first clues to the link between stress and health were provided in the 1930s by Hans Selye, the first scientist to apply the word “stress”— then simply an engineering term— to the strains experienced by living organisms in their struggles to adapt and cope with changing environments. </p>

<p>One of Selye’s major discoveries was that the stress hormone cortisol had a long-term effect on the health of rats. Cortisol has been considered one of the main culprits in the stress-illness connection, although it plays a necessary role in helping us cope with threats. </p>

<p>When an animal perceives danger, a system kicks into gear: A chain reaction of signals releases various hormones — most notably epinephrine (“adrenaline”), norepinephrine, and cortisol — from the adrenal glands above each kidney. </p>

<p>These hormones boost heart rate, increase respiration, and increase the availability of glucose (cellular fuel) in the blood, thereby enabling the famous “fight or flight” reaction. <p>Stress begins with the perception of danger by the brain, and it appears that continued stress can actually bias the brain to perceive more danger by altering brain structures such as those which govern the perception of and response to threat. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Prolonged exposure to cortisol inhibits the growth of new neurons, and can cause increased growth of the amygdala, the portion of the brain that controls fear and other emotional responses. The end result is heightened expectation of and attention to threats in the environment. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Stress hormones also inhibit neuron growth in parts of the hippocampus, a brain area essential in forming new memories. In this way, stress results in memory impairments and impairs the brain’s ability to put emotional memories in context. </p>

<p>Migraine headaches are a type of headache resulting in pain so severe that it can be disabling. <p>&#13;All you have to do for proof is examine the statistics. In America alone, over twenty-eight million people suffer from migraine headaches. Migraine headaches are more common in women; for every one man who suffers from a migraine headache, there are three women.</p>

<p>&#13;Migraines and migraine headache triggers have become somewhat easier to manage than they used to be. Often times, you can just examine the migraine headache triggers and determine which aspect of your life is the cause of your migraine headaches. Once you know which migraine headache triggers relate to your situation, it will become easier to find a treatment.</p>
<p>&#13;What Are the Most Common Migraine Headache Triggers?</p>
<p>&#13;Of all the migraine headache triggers, the most common one is stress. Another common trigger of migraines is certain foods, such as alcohol, aged cheeses, chocolate, aspartame, caffeine, msg, seasonings, and some canned or processed foods. Migraines can also be caused by fasting or skipping meals.</p>
<p>&#13;Physical factors such as increased sexual activity, intense exercise, or a change in sleep patterns are also migraine headache triggers. Changes in the environment and certain medications often act as triggers of migraine headaches, as do sun glare and bright lights. Hormonal changes can also cause migraines, and this may be why a significantly greater number of women than men are affected by migraines. Some women experience migraines during pregnancy or menopause.</p>
<p>&#13;Are You at Risk?</p>
<p>&#13;There are several risk factors that make someone more prone to migraine headaches. Migraine headaches most commonly occur in girls that have already passed through puberty. Women who experience migraines find that their likelihood of experiencing one increases during menstruation, pregnancy, or menopause. Migraine headaches also run in families; if even one of your parents&#8217; experiences migraines then you are much more likely to develop them yourself.</p>
<p>&#13;Treating Migraine Headaches</p>
<p>&#13;Although previously, the only way to treat migraine headaches was to take aspirin, this is no longer the case. Now, there are both preventative medications and pain-relieving medications that are intended specifically for migraine treatment. There are also other alternative treatments, such as acupuncture, massage, vitamins, herbs, minerals, and biofeedback. Migraine headaches can be prevented by maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle.</p>

<p><a href="http://www.headache-advice.com">Stress headaches</a>, also known as tension headaches, daily headaches, chronic non-progressive headaches or muscle contraction headaches, are the most common type of headache. <br />&#13;</p>
<p>The stress headaches happen, as evident from the name is due to stress. Over 50% of adults experience stress headaches; this condition is more common among women. Generally the stress headaches start with a milder note during the afternoons. These headaches may be mild and episodic (occurs less than fifteen days a month). And last from an hour to the entire day, pain persists continuously. <br />&#13;</p>

<p>Other people experience extreme (or chronic) stress headaches, which occurs daily or more than fifteen days a month. Symptoms of stress headaches may include irritability, frequent dizziness, fatigue, changes in sleeping patterns, muscle aches, disturbed concentration, sensitivity to noise or light and headaches early in the morning.<br />&#13;</p>
<p>Unfortunately, it is difficult to know the cause of stress headaches. As the stress is un parameterized so is the headache associated with it. However, stress headaches are generally triggered by work, friends, school, family and any internal or environmental stress.</p>

<p>Treating Stress Headaches</p>

<p>Welcome adolescence and so the problems associated. Stress headaches are part of growing up. When the muscles on your neck suddenly tighten, it could mean that you’re experiencing a <a href="http://www.headache-advice.com">stress headache</a>.<br />&#13;</p>
<p>It is absolutely advisable to consult a doctor if experiencing such a headache as stress headaches may occur due to different reasons and intensity. For an extremely painful headache, your physician could make you take x-ray examinations, blood tests, brain scans and other tests to determine how to treat your stress headache.<br />&#13;</p>
<p>If the pain becomes just unbearable, it is better to take over-the-counter pain relievers. Be aware, though, that drugs without prescription could cause stomach bleeding, ulcer or other potential side effects. <br />&#13;</p>
<p>Apart from the medicines, certain precautions taken can definitely help you avoid the stress headaches. Lifestyle changes such as a proper diet, drinking lots of water and regular exercise are known to prevent stress headaches. Studies have shown that smokers are more likely to experience extreme stress headaches compared to non-smokers. It is better to quit before becoming chronic. If you’re always tired, not getting enough sleep, suppress anger, or always irritable and high-strung about little things, you should relax and take a nap to avoid headaches. </p>
